The best way to swing for the average golfer - my opinion.
I believe it is important for the average golfer that they have a swing that is simple and repeatable but still creates enough power in accuracy to play good golf. It starts with a set up position that mirrors impact. From there we need to learn to maintain our body angles and create speed with the correct arm action and club path. Hitting with the shaft rather than just the club head will allow for more pressure to be applied to the ball, giving more distance. This swing doesn't require excessive body motion or having to turn yourself inside out. It is a no-frills golf swing that anyone can make into a repeatable motion.

I love this explanation. So many pros teach a lower body “swing starts from the ground up” approach. I believe this cliche has been beaten into the ground and over taught. Leading to a multitude of problems. When a beginner is told to start from the ground, they usually fire the lower body way too hard and early. This doesn’t allow the arms to link up properly with the body turn. This creates the early extensions, or getting stuck, or the over the top habits we see so often in amateur players. By starting with the arms and leading the transition the same way, we allowing the swing to get in sync and therefore creating effortless speed and powerful shots! Great work!

Yes Matt, I agree with what you are saying here. The arms and body motions need to be properly synchronized.

I'm glad you liked the video. I think it is unrealistic to expect the general population to be able to make the same move/swing that most of the tour pros are making.
My pro just introduced me to this because I have hip issues. It makes a lot of sense. I've lost some distance, but I think I can build on that. The one thing I'm struggling with, is adapting it to the driver. That needs a lot of work!
I like how much he talks about impact position. I was lost because I didn’t know where I was going. Now I get it. Impact Position.
Ewan - in today's round I focused on using the Right Sided Swing technique based on your videos. I must say, I agree this is the easiest swing to execute. Establish the firm left side, takeaway to the first position, then fold the right elbow and complete the backswing, and through swing pretty normal. Much easier on my body and repeatable. Used the swing on Driver, irons, and chipping. Very simple and relaxing. Thanks for the excellent videos and explanations. My golf instructor here in the USA (GOLFTEC) has been focusing on the One Plane Swing. My body has not responded well especially with the strain of the left hip on the through swing. The RSS method seems to be much more comfortable and easier to execute. Rich H.; 64, Handicap 12 USA

Great video and well explained... Can yo please provide an insight on the you deliver the club to the ball and maintain the pressure on the shaft, is done with the arms alone as the major force ? what role to the shoulders, body, hips play on the downswing into the ball. Thanks
@ewanrankinegolf6341
3 жыл бұрын
I will make a video on this to explain properly. It isn't done with the arms alone. The right arm and right wrist need to maintain some bend through the hit. So the turning of the shoulders and hips helps this. We don't want the body turning too quickly on the downswing but we do turn through the impact zone.

Thank you for a great video again,I have a question is there a pull or push movement with the arms (trail or leading arm) in this swing?.I saw a video by Sang Lee on RSS and he is talking about pulling.Is this correct? Thank you in advance.
@ewanrankinegolf6341
3 жыл бұрын
Sang Lee has some great videos. I don't try to pull with the arms but I do feel there is an element of the arms being pulled by the shoulders. I also like to keep shoulders and arms relaxed but on the dowswing I don't want to lose the slack in the left arm and shoulder.
This swing method really does make for a more stable swing radius, less moving parts and a stable axis to pivot from, ie left knee/hip.

I try not to teach a swing but use a system for coaching. I tend to teach more the average player so normally just have to improve their swings a little bit to make them play a lot better. I place a lot of emphasis on impact. You could say that I coach a slightly diluted version of rss, so I’m not looking for the perfect swing from my students, just a better swing than what they were doing previously.

Thanks Eliot. I haven't yet done a video on the follow through, but this is something I will have to do. Important is to let the left arm fold after impact and the follow through might not have to be as long as you think.
Do you think it is necesary or helpful to try to re-establish the "tush line" early on in the downswing? This would be initiated by pulling the left hip back (R.H. Golfer) not the right hip forward? Good stuff, keep"em coming.
@ewanrankinegolf6341

There is an element of squatting down as the body bumps left at the start of the downswing. It helps most golfers to hold the right hip back as this happens.

It also makes it easier to move the left hip "back" making some more space for the arms/hand coming down.
Ewan, I have one question in terms of feel and sequencing. To me, any weight shift on the backswing will be guided by the hands and the arms. There should be no active feel by the lower body. However, as far as the downswing is concerned, I’ve heard you talk about pressuring the left side before you rotate. Do you pressure BEFORE you drop your arms back into the slot, or at the same time? But, it is a conscious move, as opposed to just thinking about dropping the arms, correct? Thanks for your consideration to these questions.
Great video, does the lead arm comes a bit of the chest during the downswing (inside out)?

I never do it in practice but on the course I have several holes that get into my head and I pull it left every time. A PGA coach who is ‘open’ to RSS, tells me it is because I am not getting my hip open and given me drills to open my hip before hitting the ball.
