i was a bluesphere guy. if you collected all the coins you would advance ten levels instead of one, the floor of my room was covered in papers containing the level codes. i made it to around level 2200 before i started noticing the level patterns repeating... thats how i spent my summer vacation . x_x .. also i didnt own sonic three so i never got to play the combo

There’s actually precedent for this, given the “insta-shield” name is a bit of a misnomer. In Japan it’s called the “double spin attack,” or sometimes the “wind attack,” neither of which sound quite as natural but definitely describe the move better [Edit] okay he definitely explains this exact thing at 8:20 so that might’ve just been what you were responding to lol

8:44 Fun Fact: In Sonic Generations, you can unlock the insta-sheild as a skill. In the game, it's known as the "Twin Spin Attack" similar to it's Japanese name in Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

1. Download the rom from Sonic Retro 2. Use the configuration tool known as ''Rom Customiser'' to create your own set of options for the game on the page. 3. After downloading your own version of Sonic 3 complete, extract file to get the bin file inside and then you're done! Simple as 1,2,3.

Oh and also, if you enabled the savefile tally counters from the rom customizer but don't see them on the save screen in-game, it's because casual mode is enabled which removes the lives system and instead tallies up how many times you get hit

Sonic 3's sonic sprite is actually my favorite. It's just so much cooler then the first two which make sonic look like a plushy. Also it bridges the gap between sonic classic and sonic adventure because Sonic 3 looks like a more grown up Sonic, and his darker blue matches his colors in the 3D games.

You are lucky, because the PC songs were actually the original ones. In the Prototype from November 13th, 1994, you can see that there are no traces of Michael Jackson and that all of the PC songs are there! And they sound a lot better, too!

I really love the S&K logo too. I had a set of pyjamas when I was a kid which were all black with a large Sonic & Knuckles logo on the chest. So awesome.

I've honestly played this version for so long to the point that there were a lot of features I completely forgot were added in the romhack and not in the original.

The music in the pc port wasn't changed for legal reasons, it was changed because of the way the midis worked, sorry if this comment has been made 1,000, 000 times, just thought id say

There is a mod to add SMPSPlay which gives you back the original SMPS music from the genesis. It also has the bonus of including Genesis versions of the PC version's music and the entire soundtrack from S1, S2, S3D.

He says that the PC version replaced the MJ music, and now we know the MJ music replaced the PC music.

MJ and his team had likely begun work on the soundtrack months before the prototype. It’s more likely that those prototype songs were created as placeholders while they tried to figure out what to do about the music, considering how sloppy they sound and how unfitting they are stylistically compared to the rest of the soundtrack. And the team clearly didn’t think they were good enough to use in the final game since they went with the MJ tracks anyway

Disagreements between Sega of Japan and Sega of America over the Saturn made a bad future for Sega. Christian Whitehead, Headcannon and Pagoda West Games and their Sonic Mania project made a good future for Sega.

The PC disc release was actually my first exposure to Sonic 3. I got it when I was very young and played it through to the end, something that I rarely did back then. So I grew up on the changed songs and midi sound, it's supremely nostalgic to me and it's what I think of first when I think of sonic 3. I can't help but love it so maybe ease up on the criticism ;o

I remember once when playing through Marble Garden Zone Act 1, I accidentally got the 100,000 point time bonus, as in I wasn't even paying attention to how the time was running out. It was amazing to see this for the first time. Realistically, though, unless you like going for high score runs of the game (And who actually does that?), the 9:59 time bonus is pretty underwhelming. Also, this was an amazing video on what S3K Complete is! I've been playing this ROM hack as my main source for S3K for the better part of a year now, and there was a lot that you went over in pretty good detail that I never knew/understood, like the S3K Collection theme changes. It is definitely a godsend for those whose number one favorite game is Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

I just really could not stand hearing that theme music over & over. It still haunts me to this day, ever I rest my head

The funniest thing is how everyone thought the versions of Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base in the PC collection were basically just bootleg themes, but it was then revealed that they were there before the new ones and everyone was shocked

this is very new news but the music used the PC version's Carnival Night Zone, Ice Cap and Launch Base actually came from an earlier prototype of Sonic 3, so they basically fall back to the original and refined it for the S&K Collection so to speak.

I was one of the blue sphere guys, I always tried to get to final blue sphere level, I managed to finish every level I could on perfect score, you know collecting all the rings on each level, I kind of got bored on the 250 something level, then I realized that there could be millions of levels so I gave up, but hell it was fun.

@We Are the Gamers It's not more customizable. It has better graphics, aspect ratio, audio, and the drop dash, but not more than that. The only way that you can make A.I.R better is with mods. If we are talking about the vanilla A.I.R, complete wins.

@We Are the Gamers nah. If Euyakrot hired team Sonic 3 Complete then it would be better (and hopefully it will be in mobile phones because you have to pay to get S3&K on steam.)

Another odd difference between Sonic 3 and 3&K is that in 3 alone, Super (not Hyper) Sonic can use the Bubble Shield's bounce ability, but in 3&K he can't.

Werster did a "speedrun" of thw blue sphere game, and it went on for over 20 hours. it was fucking crazy.

I remember when I was a kid, I found it amazing and odd that you can move your save from S3 to S3&K but it didn't work in reverse. So if you completed the game on Sonic 3, you could see your save on Sonic 3 & Knuckles. But if you made your save on Sonic 3 & Knuckles, it wouldn't show up in Sonic 3, but you could still use the save slot and it didn't hurt the save in S3&K

I guess nobody's gonna talk about how the Sonik on the left side of the zone Title Cards for S3&K looks like Sonk.

Sonic 3 A.I.R.: Let Me Introduce You To Myself

I actually remember playing that PC one back in the 90s. The music was definitely different indeed. I also remember seeing glimpses of this rom hack in a video that briefly talked about it because he was talking about a bunch of things so I'm happy to see this video that talked about it into more detail

actually the reason the music was altered for the pc release was probably more because of different sound hardware. such as the "JAM" and glass breaking sound effects from carnival night zone, the twinkling sounds from ice cap, and the "go go go" from launch base. since these are pretty "complex" sounds, they wouldn't fair too well on pc hardware (or at least General midi, not sure about fm sound)... it's always nice to know more random useless facts about your favorite games.

It should’ve been “Double Use Spin Attack” since it has 2 uses: to increase your damage reach and to prevent damage

Easy nerfs the level design, and only makes you play one act per zone. (Meaning you can't get the super emeralds) And Normal has some of the nerfed level design that easy mode has, but not as much. Plus you can play all of the levels. One more thing. In both Easy and Normal, the special stages NEVER speed up. They stay the same speed for the whole stage.
