The Best Way to Maintenance Your Roller Hockey Skates

Спорт

After playing roller hockey for many years I have learned a lot about skate maintenance. This video will show you all I learned so you can properly keep your skates in working order. Your going to need a skate tool (maybe two), bearing oil and a few paper towels. Amazon links below. I hope you find this video helpful and your equipment last longer.

I would add to check the threadlock on the screws before putting back on the skates. I've seen plenty of screws fall out in games and in rec skating. Loctite do a really good blue threadlock, which is perfect for hand tools to remove. Don't use red threadlock as this is a more permanent solution

Very helpful thanks, I'd recommend using a microfiber cloth to remove the dust because then you get it damp and it works better

Liked your video a lot. I would add that if you skate both outdoors and indoors to have a separate set of wheels and bearings. The indoor wheels and bearings won't exhibit as much wear and tear as the one's that you use outside where there's dirt, sand, leaves, etc. To clean my outdoor bearings I put them in a big plastic jug with a quart of fresh motor oil and shake them up for about 2-3 minutes and let sit overnight. I scoop them out in the am and dry them out for about 2 hours on paper towels before putting them in. If you look inside the jug it will look like the oil that you remove from your car when you do an oil change.

Finally got back into playing roller street hockey. Bought a brand new pair of Bauer skates a year and half ago. Thanks for the recommendation on the oil for bearings. I clean my bearings every other week - just swab all the dirt in the them with a qtip but definitely need to oil them. My main problem right now is I have had the screw pop out of my front wheel three times in the last couple months. I make sure to tighten all my screws before each time I leave the house to skate, but I have gotten in the habit of making sure they are tight with my skate tool each time I take a rest at the school yard every time I take a break. I still have lost the front wheel screw, only to have to search the yard and have been fortunate so far to find it each time but it has gotten me so paranoid. I am looking into buying extra replacement screws to keep in my bag as you suggest doing in this video. I would love for you to do a video on different wheels - especially outdoor ones as I spend the majority of my skate time on outdoor surfaces. I have gotten wheels specific to hard asphalt but recently have been skating on smooth surface at an outdoor rink and my wheels are a bit too slippery for the surface. Would love for you to dive deep into this if possible.

That’s awesome to here your back on skates. To solve the problem of you bolt falling out. Head to the hardware store and get some lock tight. Just dab a little on the bolt and it will hold nicely

Excellent! thank you!! How about placing wheels crossing 1 and 2, and 3 and 4 and viceverse from both sides. This way wheels rotate in between positions also

One important point needing to be mentioned is how important it is to check regularly the tightness of the bolts that secure your wheels. Even more important is, when you swap your wheels, check to be sure that the two aluminum frames, that hold each set of four wheels, are solidly secured to your boots. While skating at high speed, I have had a wheel come loose, and once, an aluminum frame came detached from one of its anchors. I survived, just short of an emergency room visit. I was wearing wrist guards and knee pads but got plenty of road rash.

What lube are you using these days? Bones tends to heat up and be good after like 2 periods of play. Been rotating between Oust and Sonic, I think I prefer Oust met oil.

You know this is actually a really hard question to answer because there are so many different things to look for in sticks. I can tell you to not cheep out on a stick it won’t last. Don’t need top of the line just don’t get bottom either. You can find deals on stick if you look at the clearance section or do what I do and buy pro stock. I use hockey stick man. My favorite company’s are Bauer and CCM
