The best way to get into reel mowing? Sun Joe 24V-CRLM15 24-Volt iON+ Cordless Reel Mower review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Pick up the reel mower here: amzn.to/3aNplca
2 AH battery here: amzn.to/3cORm2H
I bought the sun joe battery reel mower to give it a try to see if it was a legitimate mower to use if you wanted to get into reel mowing and I was pleasantly surprised! This thing actually did a pretty great job!

    Great video Brett.. I think you hit the nail on the head.. not everyone in fact I think the majority cant afford to spend thousands on a mower. But everyone would like to have a great lawn. Little thing called "Life" happens and there is not the budget or time to have a golf course lawn. These options are a great alternative. You were honest in your review and people need to understand the cheaper products are an alternative not a replacement for the Pro Quality products..

    What a great review. Informative. I like how you solved issues such as showing how you conquered the burring issue from the stick. I have been wanting the exact model, but the bad reviews were holding me off. I think that the overlap, the handle, and the reel burring is something I am more familiar with and less afraid of thanks to you

    great review, This is perfect for learning to reel mow in the seasons leading up to getting your lawn super level , once your lawn is super flat and you have the habit down, then you can feel better investing in an allett.

    This cuts fine but it is very short when on lowest cut setting. My son changed the roller bar to make it weight down more on grass. So as a result grass catcher doesn't stay on on lowest setting. My grandson has been using this mower for 4 years. Very safe for him. More stop when handle is released. Works great for our backyard. Battery lasts thur several mowing. Worth the money.

    I have a Sunlawn reel mower and I updated it to lithium. It works great but in the winter time I store it in the shed in the back yard. I opened the shed to get the mower and a gray squirrel chewed 1/8 of the wheel off to get in the shed. I can't find parts so I think I will buy this one. Thanks for the great review

    Ha, of course it's not going to be as good as a professional $3500+ reel mower. But for my little ol 3000 sq ft yard, i think it will work. I have a manual reel mower and love it but have been looking for something powered. Saw this and so glad you did a video. Sun Joe should pay you for this video to post on Home Depot and Amazon sellers! I know exactly what you mean about getting something stuck in the reel which doesn't bother me. I wasn't sure about the battery mowers but this one convinced me. Honestly, I know you are a pro, but from my eyes, I think it did a fantastic job on your lawn---if mine were mowed like that----I would be thrilled and my neighbors would be so jealous! Thanks again for doing this video!

    Great review. I have been mowing my back yard (Bermuda hybrid) for 5 years with a Great American push reel, and while it does the job, I am a busy man and often let the grass go too long between cuts, which means either I am going to drop 5 pounds pushing through it every time, or I am going to drop 6 pounds doing multiple passes at diminishing heights. A cordless reel, as you said, makes a TON of sense. I do wish that some of the build quality issues shown were designed out (or maybe that Ryobi would make a unit compatible with my already-extensive collection of batteries!), but this might make sense for me. And maybe if I didn't dread mowing the high grass, it might not get as high ;)

    I have a favor to ask. Can you hand this mower over to Allyn to test out on his Zoysia plot? I have a manual reel mower and going through over seeded rye is definitely a different adventure than trying to get through zoysia in July. Needless to say (I wasn't man enough) I went back to the rotary on my Zoysia. I'd be interested to see how well it does on a real mans lawn and not this sissy-grass 🤣

    I kind of like taller grass on my yard, somewhere around 2 inches is fine for me. It gives the yard a more cushion like affect and makes it easier to walk on barefooted.

  • @kickingworld

    @kickingworld

    Жыл бұрын

    Not for Bermuda grass though. Anything more than 1” and it gets very thin the taller it goes and it’s actually more of a crunchy feel than that soft cushion you’d expect. It’s more cushiony when it’s lower because the grass is more dense and grows more laterally when you cut it lower more regularly.

  • @greenkeeper448
    @greenkeeper4483 жыл бұрын

    As we all know the shorter the grass setting the more often mowing is needed. At .6 inches the lawn will have to be mown every other day so the bag would last more than 3 passes. I think this is nice little rig. Thing is for reel mowers is sharpening cost is the same as mowers costing 20 times this unit's cost. Last I knew it was 100 dollar bill just to set a mower on the grinder and sharpness is of utmost importance so even for a homeowner a once per year sharpening would be required.

  • @lawn2learn

    I’ve been using mine for over a month on Bermuda. My biggest issue is the sides like Brett said. When you do a trim pass you can get closer with the right wheel than the left. Wrap that black strap a few times around the bar on the grass catcher. The way you had it I know it drags and you just wanna toss it lol. I’ve never used a greens master I can’t compare but I am reel mowing every 3 days and I’m addicted 😆🔥

    My wish list for an electric reel mower like this I have a bermuda lawn and bermuda grass likes to be cut very short 1. start at 0.50 as the minimum cutting height and each height setting going up by 0.25. My normal cutting height is 0.75 (this mower doesn't have a 0.75 height setting) and sometimes I go down to 0.50 2. lightweight (I'm sure this mower is lightweight) 3. Ability for easy backlapping it for sharpening. 4. a very useful bag.

    The 24V battery - thing is, those of us with power tools have lots of 18V batteries that wouldn’t be able to give extended range due to the voltage difference. Adapters exist to allow 18V batteries from different brands to be interchanged, but they can’t make up for that voltage difference. So to get greater range you would need more or bigger 24V batteries.

    Works great! kzread.infoUgkxprGGPRQoChQaA8u58dt7miEpxQBKiWeJ More difficult with longer grass, though, but I was expecting that. I have a small back yard, it seemed like overkill to buy a lawnmower with an engine. This is easy to carry in and out of the basement through the bulkhead. Very sharp (be careful). At the back of the mower are little wheels, which I use when pulling the mower backwards, so it's easy to readjust direction. I'm including a photo which shows the before and after for my lawn when it was at its longest. For long grass like that you really have to put some muscle into it, and I needed to go into a new section of grass with some momentum, but when the grass is only an inch or two higher than regular cut height it's quite easy. The lawn is still patchy and full of weeds, but at least it's a good height! A step in the right direction.

    Too bad about the reel and bed knife damaging so easily but many companies are manufacturing them with stamped steel parts instead of the old mowers that had hardened steel reels and bed knives. they didn’t seem to have that problem very often. They also held their edges a long time before needing to be backlapped for sharpening. Grandpa used to buy, sell, and refurbish manual reel mowers in the 40’s and 50’s.

    Talking about the grass catcher bag not catching all the clippings, you could put some kind of small mesh netting or screen over it just enough, to catch all clippings, but, still fairly easy to get the catcher on and off. Like with a bit of framework, uptop between the mower, itself and the top of the catcher frame. If I could draw it out on this phone, it would be great. But this phone doesn't have that feature, bugger.
