My stylist does a "curl by curl" cut on me and she does it dry to see how the layers fall. Works every time.

I love this!! Thank you!!! It's so hard to find people who know how to cut curly hair, especially my texture (4B/4C). I've never successfully given myself a haircut before, but I decided to give this a try and it came out sooo well!!! Took a while, but simple easy to follow and totally worked even though this girl's hair is finer and looser curls. I was even able to follow this cutting structure to create a pretty different hair shape/style.

Great controlled chaos cut. I love howyou don't have to cut much to add volume and remove the triangle shape.

Looks amazing. Been trying to pay for a cut like that for 25 years. As easy as you make it look, I keep finding people who find it just as impossible!

Just curious as to why you would wet the hair if its curly? It doesn’t act the same way as dry and will turn out very different after her next wash. I know for my curly hair, you wet it and it goes basically totally straight, it seems much longer than it actually ends up being since I have ringlets. Not to mention the overall shape will appear very different. I’ve always had wet cuts and it ruins the curl pattern every time, I wish hairdressers would stop doing it this way.

Even curly hair does not dry the same every time. What if she wants to wear her hair straight? She will have bits of hair all different lengths.

nah it looks longer when its wet so you already know what it looks like dry it would be an uneven cut if you cut dry

I don't understand this, if someone's hair "curls very differently the next time you wash it" ... then what would be the benefit of cutting it dry for "today's" specific curl pattern anyway... to say it another way, why isn't your "curl pattern different the next time you wash it" if you HAD just cut it dry? My curls don't form the same clumps every single time... does anyone's? I figure curls alway do what they want, and hair freaks out after having a lot of weight taken off, no matter if you cut it dry or wet, like a rubber band snapping back, which is why they say you should get frequent maintenance trims, which are maybe less likely for curly girls since we're used to having so many bad experiences? I dunno, I've had wet & dry (even deva) curly cuts, it always takes me a few washes to get used to styling the new length, so I personally don't think the method actually affects this, regardless of the hype 😕

This is interesting and looks nice curly at the end as well as straight. I JUST had my color done, hairs shoulder length, lowlights & highlights and needed my ends trimmed. The stylist had done my hair one time before and did a good job. That time was $200, this time was $200 also, except this time she point cut my ends when I told her explicitly, blunt ends only. I have fine, heavy density 3a hair and I have to have those ends with friends or the ends get tangled, curly up and can not hold the style i want. I have had the worst experiences in the past 3 yrs my hair has not gained length due to major mistakes by stylists. I sort of got a little lecture when I went back yesterday for a tiny fix on the ends due to the stylist now taking me back 8 months of growth. The top level who fixed it said I need to not try to learn their stylist terms to use to tell them how to cut my hair and that I should not tell them to NEVER point cut my hair bc curly hair can be point cut. She was okay with how she said it but started it with....not sure how to say this but....Seriously,...If I am paying $200 for right at shoulder length hair, I will expect them to know my hair, to be understanding & give a good quality cut and service,...period!

My stylist said she loved my natural curls and asked if I wanted to wear them curly, and then when I said yes she proceeded to straighten my hair

@@RubyBlueUwU it's what they're comfortable with. I had to leave a stylist I'd had for several years because I wanted to wear my hair curly not flatironed... He couldn't do it. Made me sad, but can't be having another chop job.

Yowza! I wish more hairdressers had your understanding and skill with cutting curly hair. I have mid length-to-short old lady grey hair and NO ONE down here in Charlotte, NC has a clue….they never listen to me when I tell them how to approach my hair! I’ve lived with it for 70 years now and know it’s quirks pretty well…I also have a very long neck and usually come out of the salon steaming..because no matter what I say - I come out with a buzzed nape up to my ears! Even pictures don’t help of my “better” cuts….these guys and gals will pour over the shots and then do whatever they want. Don’t you gum balls understand what “fluffy” hair should look like?? It could be a $20 cut at Great Clips or an extravagant $250 event at Nordstrom’s….my hair never looks nice….it’s very depressing…thanks, everyone for listening to my crazy rant..Curly Heads Unite!!

So, I tried this on my daughter. Seems to have done the job. Letting it air dry to see real results. Thanks for the video!

This was a great curly cut, came out better than my deva cut! ...but not sure how the "straightened" AKA gently-curled-at-the-end-classic-90's-layered look would differ from any other dry curly cut that has random different lengths; this end result also has several random lengths that just blend nicely in the gentle wave/curl? I'm saying this style could be successful with any type of curly cut.

What are the benefits of a Controlled Chaos haircut vs. a dry cut?

I can't fin anyone that can cut my hair properly! They all do it as itf my hair was straight! I want to learn to do it my self, do you think that's possibly?

This was very relaxing to watch.

The best haircut i ever had as a girl with curly hair was with it straightened. Every time i go to get my hair cut, the stylist wants to wash and cut but starts panicking when my hair is curling as they cut. They also happen to forget about shrinkage, so i go in for a trim and lose half my hair. At least when it was dry, they were able to visibly see the damaged/split ends that needed to go and i didnt lose a whole lot of length.

Unfortunately they really don’t teach curly hair in beauty school. Make sure your stylist either has a portfolio full of curls or a head full of them!

I went to a Deva hair salon, I need my hair fixed because I was a victim of a bad haircut at a previous salon. The new stylist dry cut my hair, not a lot was cut. I thought she was going even it after she washed it she didn't cut it instead put product in my hair and sent me on my way. Looks just like it did after she cut it. $75 and nothing done, I still have my bad haircut. 😢

I know nothing, but I doubt it will work for every curly because there are so many factors 🥺 I would just think if you liked her shape, you could do this.

This turned out great but I would run from the building if someone tried to cut my curls wet! If you want to wear it both straight and curly, that's probably the best way to go. But for a curls-only style, the clump so much better when cut dry. I have very similar hair to hers.

@Controlled Chaos - Thanks for the quick response! I emailed my current stylist w/the above training video. Pretty sure she'll watch it. It's still amazing to me that stylists do NOT get trained when in school how to cut curly hair! I just don't understand why?! My Dad was a stylist for over 50 years and he, too, says he was never trained how to cut this type of hair. Am just glad to see that stylists are starting to really learn how to cut curly hair; hopefully, this will really take off and eventually, more stylists will have this training.

Same here! I wish there was a way to search certified Controlled Chaos stylists. I know DevaCut certified professionals are searched for each state. I tried google, yelp and their website... nothing as of yet. It would be amazing to find someone who could do this cut here in Los Angeles, CA.

Monique Daskalakis It doesn’t HAVE to be blown straight. We def prefer curls!!! This is just to show that it is the only haircut for curls that can also be worn straight. Sometimes, some of us break the rules and get a blowout, and when we do, we want an even look.

@Bunjeonny don't know if you will see this after 9 months but look into the curly girl method or you tube videos for curly hair. With the right method and products you may be able to coax your curls to return.

I'm going to save the video for my new hairdresser; My hair was the same length, I had the same hairdresser for +10 years( He has outstanding reputation ok) but last time ruin it my curls cutting super short, after I told him I want the same thing at the video, he did mens hair cut on me; now I have to deal with my witch hair OMG. so be careful girls I don't want any body had the same awful experience; have to wait @ least 2 years to have my curls back at the right length.

This is not the only way to cut curly hair.. If you know your angles and how to cut proper layers and how to ppont cut the ends a curly hair cut is not difficult

It’s covid. I have a 7yr old boy with bushy curly hair Hiw can I cut his hair to make it look more .. ugh err. Straighter

I have curly frizzy hair and the only way I get my hair cut is if I straighten it. I have not found anyone that can cut my hair right curly so the only way I can wear my hair is straight. Ugh!

Sure would be nice to get a haircut for my textured hair without a $180.

The only thing that i did not like was you did not finish the haircut.

I have my curly hair wet cut too so that I can wear it curly or smooth. No way am I letting someone hack into my hair dry. I know a lot of ladies swear by that technique, but I also hear of horror stories too. My stylist doesn't rock the C like this video, but I think I'll show it to her. I am still trying to figure out how to out facing framing curls in my hair.

She is way hotter with curly hair.

Asian women most of them have lovely long hair, would never cut it this short no matter their age and it doesn't make them look old or look silly.

Most Asians have straight hair. I've never seen one with curly hair unless maybe mixed race.

Mines nice and long no layers no fringe, long hair is a woman's glory.
