I made it a point to learn how to cook and hone my cookery skills at an early age. I did not want to end up a middle-ager with diabetes type 2 and over weight. This once bachelor never depended on Mc slops or Burger King to feed me. Does a man well to learn to cook, also if he marries a woman that can't till she learns from her husband. I am The official biscuit and bread baker and gravy maker of the household. I leave the pasta dishes and some of the casseroles upto my wife. Hey Beagle here is a 🍩 for ya ol' boy. Get daddy to make some of the old fashion bear sign (donuts) like the cookies did in the old cattle drives.

I had a conversation with a buddy of mine just a few days ago. We were talking about cooking shows and I had told him that I would rather get out an old recipe book and make it than to watch how fancy people can make a grilled cheese look. It doesn't matter to me if my plate looks pretty as long as the food is good. And that's the part that this fellow brings. Simple ways to cook great food

This looks so good!! My dad taught me to make a somewhat similar recipe. His was russet potatoes, onions and garlic. Add salt and pepper, half stick of butter and…coca cola. We cook them in a Dutch oven, or covered pie pan on the grill. It was a hit at any cookout! I think of him whenever I make them and believe he would’ve not only loved this dish, but also your channel! God Bless

Hello Kent, Shannon, and all the taste testers! My wife and I, and our 8 children have enjoyed your videos for quite some time and your recipes have certainly brought many a smile and full belly to our humble home. The one simple ingredient I would add to this dish which would bring just a touch of heat and a whole lot of good smokey flavor, would be a teaspoon or so of ground chipotle peppers. This dish is outstanding as is, but if I were to add anything at all that would be it. Thank you all for everything that you do, and may God bless you!

Love your show! Elephant garlic is named from its super size, usually they're around 2 inches in diameter or larger. The flavor is more intense garlic and sweeter then normal garlic. I use it because my chili recipe only calls for 3 cloves of garlic.

I think the only thing that might improve this perfect recipe would be if I were invited for dinner the next time you cook it! Our son has made several of your great recipes -- you're one of his heroes. If there's enough liquid, it seems like some dumplings or biscuits on top would be the "piece d'resistance" -- especially if they're made with Mtn Dew! Soda pop in dumplings produces light, fluffy, and moist little clouds of heaven to top off this 'heart of the earth' recipe!

It might sound pretty far out of left field but i would try pineapple. The acid in that should complement the sweet and slightly citrus flavor from the mtn dew pretty well. Congrats on 2 million!! So happy for y'all! I'd have to say that I think it might need a bit of a citrusy sweet thing such as mandarin oranges or pineapple. Cut it up into little pieces and you'll have a burst of sweet to go with the saltiness of the bacon and complimenting the mountain dew. Or even adding a bit of citrus juice would also work.

Here is what I would add: 1. Make it breakfast! Add some eggs to scramble with the potatoes! 2. Make it a "garden mess" by adding string green beans. (I know, 2 suggestions. But I've made a version of these potatoes for years, and I've added these ingredients. Not together, but separately. The garden mess started when a friend brought over a bunch of veggies from his garden. So my dad throw them all together on the grill with a ton of butter and bacon. And in the morning, my dad added eggs to the mess to make it breakfast!)

Hey Kent and Shannon. I've been thinking about this recipe and there are two ingredients that would make it different and possibly better. Smoked Sausage like John said, and New Mexican Hatch Green Chilies. I live in New Mexico and I cook with them all the time.

I'm so glad to see you restoring your wagon. Too many people don't do such to their equipment today. Everything is "disposable". Well, my hubs & I are old school, but we don't do that. When our old faithful work pick-up truck was hit in the rear-end when I was sitting @ a light the insurance company wanted to total it because a simple new bed replaces was worth more than the book value of the truck, what did we say??? NOPE! We bought her back on a salvage title fir $200 & built her a beautiful wood bed for less half the cost of a new bed!

Fun fact garlic, it is actually more closely related to a leek. In the same way that leeks are milder than onions, elephant garlic is milder, and with a slightly different flavor, than regular garlic - slightly garlicy, but without the sharp, pungent bite.

Hey Kent, love your show. As far as adding ingredient, The southern trio, celery, onion, green pepper, the French trio has carrot, so perhaps just add carrot and celery, all diced along with the onions and stuff including some green.scallion onions raw at the finish line. Perhaps serve with sour cream.

That looks so delicious! I really like the original recipe, so I'm sure I'll love the new one.👍🏻 I think I'll add some fresh green beans to mine. Since we're not overcooking the potatoes, the beans will be nice and al dente. I like to add some veggies to dishes to help my family eat their greens. 😋

I've always loved pork loin stuffed with Jalapeno's and Peach preserves or Mango. So, I'm thinking that one of the two would add to the spice of the jalapeno as well as enhance the bacon flavor. Not too much of either and I would recommend adding it towards the end, if not at the end of the cooking process so that it does not dissolve.

Tomatillos are what I think I'd add to it. My husband and I put em in a ton of our potato dishes. He introduced me to em and now I use em a lot! they taste so dang good in a breakfast type potatoes hash yuuummy 😋 my second thought is maybe some bell peppers. I love me some bell pepper with potatoes

Well you got the spice of the peppers ,the smokeness of the bacon ,the earthy tasting taters, and the onions and the sweetness of the mountain dew. I think I would throw some good old Philadelphia cream cheese in there with it to make it like a creamy sweet potato 🥔 soup ..thanks for all the great recipes and videos Kent.
