The Best Way to Catch Lobsters in California!

Lobster fishing using hoop netting is effective in California at San Diego Bay and Long Beach but the California Bait System is the only way to go. In this video I explain why and how to catch Lobsters using the California Bait System. I use the lobster bait tubes to avoid getting my bait stolen by sea lions.

I have had many nights ruined by Sealions when we used bait cages. I switched to the tubes, and my nights are more successful now. Thanks Dave 👍

Thanks for the tip. I just started using your pvc bait holders and they work! Loaded up on lobster in 2 pulls. Some of our traps had 6-7 legal bugs in them. Awesome trip!

To keep the smell down at home, they get emptied on the way back to the harbor. I clip them all together and toss them out the back of the boat tied to a line. The rush of the water does most of the work on flushing them out. This works for the nets as well, but those I do one at a time.

Thx for the love of what you do. Personally, I dive for my bugs. Just wanted to point out that the antenna on the Panulirus Interruptus, and other spiny and even N American species, act as chemoreceptors. Essentially, like a dogs nose highly sensitive to amino acid degradation in dead organisms. Happy hunting.

Makes sense except the black vs white, it seems reasonable that sea lions know where the bait is whether blk or white from conditioning alone. Main advantage is having fresh bait and a tamper proof cage. Since using white bait tubes i have no real sea lion problems. Plus if blk is a better mouse trap why wouldn't promar make their tubes black? Having said all that I'm painting all my tubes blk tomorrow haha, except what if since white tends 2 b tamper proof style, sea lions associate white with inaccessible and leave u alone. Maybe I'm over thinking this, any way appreciate your vids
