The BEST way EVER to edit FUJI RAW FILES in Adobe Lightroom

In today's video, I'm sharing a brand new workflow for editing fuji raw files in Adobe Lightroom and photoshop. This is my best method so far for sharpening and getting the most detail from a fuji raw file. In the video, I discuss how to sharpen Fuji raw files, how to quadruple the megapixel count and how to save these images into your Lightroom catalog.

Ian, thanks for letting us know about the addition to LR, that’s great. 100MP image from a 26MP sensor, wow! I went from full frame system to Fuji several months ago and was worried about printing large from the APS-C sensor but even with out upsizing the larger images they have been amazing. Now, with this, I can try some really large, 60” or more, photos and see how they look. This is why your videos are usually my first up to watch when you post them, thanks!

I am a lucky man, Ian. I am attending an Author Photography Project course and during the next week I have to edit between 5 and 10 tree photos that I captured with my Fujifilm XT-20. I am sure that this video will be extremely helpful to me, precisely because it shows as an example exactly the kind of photography I am editing for my project to be presented at the end of the course.

Tried this with a lower light photo of a sunset and it enhanced the details extremely well but also added a bit of noise, not exactly a rubber bullet but I think the denoising tools in ps are good enough to compensate. Wish lightroom would natively have better sharpening to work with the x-trans sensors -_-

Would any of these issues transfer to the actual image? As in printing? I took an image once. Client liked it. So we printed it big. On my own prints and on screen it looked great. Good color. Sharpness. On my print. Less sharpness. But ok. On a 120cm print. It looked like a painting. Seeing as it was with the 26mpx sensor of the x100V it really surprised me and made me sell the camera.

Brilliant thanks; but I seem to have developed a problem with Ps❓ When I want to open a RAW image from LRc to Ps, Ps opens BUT Ps only opens but no image¿ (all 2023 versions and updated). I've tried to delete Ps beta but still no joy. Tried in preferences to rename but no joy? Any ideas. I'm a Fujifilm X-T5 now having sold my NIKON etc and really am enjoying the experience (which is also why I subscribed to your channel since you are a Fujifilm user)....

Tried 'Enhance Raw Details' with GFX100s files and it makes no noticeable difference at all. I don't think I'll be using 'super resolution' as the file sizes are 1.6Gb ! Still a bit flaky with fine details like leaves and you really need low ISO low noise images to start with to get the best results. I think I still prefer clean hi res and wide dynamic range files to start with rather than relying on AI to sort things out afterwards ..... of course it does save weight and cash though.

Interpolation it was called, prob is, you can't put something in that wasn't there in the first place. Sharpening, contrast, etc all do the same. Fuji Spro2 etc, they used to get hammered by the press for using hexagonal pixels... Always been a Fuji user. Its always about the content is the image. How you get there is irrelevant. But you you still cannot put something in that isn't there. 👍

  • @seanivrymusic

it does a great job, but my gosh, i can edit fuji files with that quality in capture one with real time response. waiting 20 seconds and having to use multiple steps to edit a single image is ridiculous. I would only do that for specific images that need photoshop work. Why adobe can't support raf files natively with full quality is bizarre. I understand the difference in sensor layout, but it's still just programming. Even if it's a lot of programming, there is a huge fuji user base that might switch to lightroom if it worked better. Not knocking your video, it definitely is a better way to edit them in lightroom, but I was looking to see if compatibility had gotten better. I'll stick with c1 for now. :)

Really don't see the point in sharpening like this... if you want more MP then get a medium format or full frame, but don't try and push a sensor that isn't meant for this type of "hi-res" photography. Especially when you're dealing with a lot of noise (which can add lots & lots of character to an image) the LR algorithm will "smooth out" that noise, creating a horrible image with blurred spots everywhere... For prints I can say from experience that even at ISO6000 you can print 90x60CM and the results will look fine at 100% JPEG without any sharpening applied! If you actually need to sharpen for larger prints, head to Photoshop!
