Great video. Can you talk more about how Springwell helps to save approximately $200 a year on salt and water savings over old school downflow softeners? Does Fleck fall into that category? And how does Springwell help save money exactly? Is it because the time between regeneration is longer? Or other factors? Thanks.

Thanks for watching! The primary benefit of the SpringWell system is that it is a metered system that only backwashes when it reaches grain capacity. Many other systems use a simple timer or require the homeowner to estimate hardness and then that figure is used to formulate the right time between regen. The most basic ones are just on a straight timer and backwash whether you need it or not.

I’m looking at both and can’t make up my mind on which one to get. Also, have you tested or given thought about the UV water purification add on? Thanks!

My wife and I are the only people living full time in our home. Our home has 4.5 baths, multi head showers, two dishwashers and two kitchen! A few times a year we may have 6 -7 living in the home… so we size do we size based on 2 people of 6-7?

Thanks for the watch! It really depends on how you want to manage with that many people in the house and if you want the extra flow capacity all the time. If you aren't all using the bathrooms at the same time, you should be fine.

It depends on what's in your water to start with. We always recommend testing before purchasing treatment systems so you can match the treatment to the contaminant. RO can still remove things that combo filter/softeners cannot.

we have 110 GPG and we had to buy the biggest water softener we could find. we go through about 6-8 bags of salt per month since we put it in 17 years ago. carrying the salt down to the basement is getting hard on me, and i need to find a modern softener that drastically reduces our usage. would a 110,000 grain system be enough?

Hey - great question! They are different processes, the Kind is a salt free conditioner and the SpringWell is salt based ion exchange. Like I mention in the “who it’s best for” part of this video, a salt free conditioner is better for city water with low hardness levels. I have to keep sodium intake low. May be a dumb question but do the salt based systems add sodium to drinking water I'd have to worry about? Thinking of a Salt-Free combo system from SpringWell but sounded like you think the salt versions are better. Our hard water has been wrecking our high end appliances (espresso machines, refrigerators, etc.)

Yes, we usually do mention that folks on a sodium-reduced diet should be careful. The harder your water is, the more salt will be added into the water. If you have reverse osmosis, that would remove all the salt. Otherwise, you have the option of using potassium instead of sodium. It's pricier and harder to get though, so you should check around first. Also, check the actually hardness level to begin with, as the salt added may be negligible.

even though I have 3 people in the house, and on occassion, I may have up to 6-10 people maybe only a couple of times a year, what is the drawback of getting the SS4, is it just basically having to backwash and waste more water?

Larger systems have larger tanks and more resin. These systems are pretty efficient so you likely wouldn't see much difference, but additional resin might be necessary if you have very hard water even if you don't have that many people. Best to do a hardness test and check with the manufacturer. It's important your existing flow rate can handle a larger unit.

I get staining from iron and mineral build up on shower head and areators. A certain company tested the water and found 1.5 ppm of iron and hardness of 17 and reccomended a softener. My concern is for those who have to limit their salt intake, and the softener putting salt in the water. Is their an inexpensive way to remove the salt and still have soft water? my guess is a sediment filter, then softener, then RO, but that starts getting expensive and I hate changing the filters.

You can get an iron filter (aio) and a salt free system. You'll still need to replace media for at least the sediment filter - you can't really get around that. You're removing things from the water and you have to clear out what it catches. We have details on our website: freshnss.com/best-salt-free-water-softener/

How long does the media last and can it be changed ? Will a 30 micron sediment filter be adequate pre treatment? I currently use a 20" carbon cartridge and it only lasts about 4 months before it starts losing pressure. @@Freshnss

How long media lasts is wholly a function of your water usage and what's in the water. Any estimate is based on averages. AIO filters use charged beads like a water softener and have a recent cycle so that media can last for many years (7-10). But carbon and sediment filters do lots of heavy lifting so you'd likely still be looking at replacement every 3-6 months. Think of it like oil changes for a car. If you drive a 1000 miles a week, you're going to be doing them more often than if you only drive to the grocery store once a week.

Is a double tank softener worth the money? Recently got a quote that was crazy high

Hey there! It really depends on your water usage requirements. If you don’t want any delays between regenerations, they can be a good idea. But get ally for residential use, they aren’t necessarily. What was the reason the salesperson said that you needed a twin tank?

The larger systems deliver higher flow rates. You'll want to size a system based on your water usage. The larger SS4 system can deliver 13 gallons per minute (gpm) whereas the SS1 system can deliver 11 gpm.

They use certified components and media, but the unit as a whole is not NSF-certified.

You point out that this system uses 8% cross-linked resin like its a good thing. 8% resin is the "cheap stuff". The systems you get at Home Depot, Costco, Lowe's, etc use 8% cross-linked resin. The advantage of 8% resin is that it's cheap. The disadvantage of 8% resin is that it's cheap. 8% resin will lead to water pressure loss, uses a tone of salt leaving a slimy feeling in the water and these systems usually come with a 3-4 year warranty because they expect them to last you a few years and then you have to go get another one. If you are going to have the same resin in this system and a system you can get at Home Depot for $500, what's the point of speanding more than $500? You also mention that your "lab test" reported that this system took out 92% of the hardness in the water. That's actually horrible and not something you should be pointing out if you want to showcase this system. Water softeners are just that...water softeners. They are expected to bring the hardness down to 0 grains hard. 100% soft, not 92% soft. For living in an are with extremely hard water, the last system you should be looking at is a system with 8% resin. You need, at minimum, a system that uses 10% resin or even 16% resin. I hope you got paid well for promoting their product for them.

There sure are a lot of springwell videos that all say the same thing... 5 good things and 2 that need improvement. Reviews that are really commercials.

I can’t speak to the other vids, but how is it a commercial when we literally installed it and did a before and after lab test in an independent certified laboratory? And explain the calculations so people know how properly interpret their test results and size their softener (regardless of the brand). We take a lot of time and resources to put this together.
