When it comes to watches for women, many brands are a bit too much on the nose as far as producing what they think will appeal to traditional feminine tastes. So in this video, I'm going to be sharing a lot of watches that are simply great for anyone but lean more on the unisex end of the spectrum and therefore great options to consider for women. I heard Jenni Elle say in one of her videos that many watch brands just "pink it and shrink it" when making watches for women. I think that's true for many brands, so I like that you highlighted both unisex models/brands and models/brands that aren't just a "feminine" take on a man's watch. Great video as always, Teddy.

Yeah, I heard from I think ten twenty podcast that they hate that women’s watches are all blinged out, so small, or just add “girly” colors when really they want and have similar tastes that men do. Especially watch enthusiasts. Look at Cartier. The tank is just as popular with women than with men. I think the watch industry as a whole is lagging in terms of marketing and presentation. How is it possible that many reputable brands don’t have specific case dimensions and/or caliber information on their own website? Look at the success MVMT, Daniel Wellington and other shitty fashion brands have had simply by focusing on the social media aspect of their product. It seems so stupid to me that companies are so blind

@@mariog7213 Completely agree. Most of Teddy's suggestions would actually be too large for me, as I have small wrists and don't want to have to do the oversized or "contemporary" looks just because I am a woman - an understated and classic dress watch is all I'm in the market for atm. Add to that the fact that most brands seem to think of women as magpies, and I have a very reduced selection to choose from, and one I have to email brands about to get full specs on, as you say.

Personally, as a woman, I don't mind pinks. Shrinked versions of models too I appreciate because I'm very short and thin so my wrists are happy with watch selections that have smaller sizes. All I ask is to stop throwing in diamonds or shiny jewels on every single model 😩 If I wanted pearls and diamonds I would've bought them. I buy watches because I use them to look at the time and to admire the craftsmanship.

I actually started to investigate a bit around watches and I found this channel extremely helpful to newcomers. Already ordered a Seiko 5 and an Orient Bambino II since I am willing to change my Gant fashion watches (even though they look great, my occupation and wardrobe cries for something more serious). Thanks Teddy for the content, with these videos one can easily get the basics in a couple of hours. The Seiko Presage Cocktail is on my list for this year, the one in the video recommended for women is defo a great advice for a gift :)

In the affordable category, citizen is making some really nice pieces. I bought my wife a EW1824-57D for around 300CAD$ (240USD) and it looks and function amazing. Eco drive movement, 100m water resistant, sapphire crystal and beautiful pearl like effect on the face of the watch. Its small size makes it look very classy on her smaller wrists as well.

Thank you so much for this video Teddy. I’m a new subscriber. Not new to the world of watches but new to the social media/online aspect. I’m in the market for my next watch and it was great to see some suggestions I wouldn’t have thought of before. I have really small wrists (14.5cm) so I often find that depending on lug to lug and lug shape, I can’t actually wear a watch I’d been admiring! I often buy vintage Rolex and Omega for that reason because I don’t like the traditional ladies offerings, but now I want a new automatic that hasn’t had a previous owner or life! You’ve definitely given me food for thought, and I would love to see a video like this every year for women or those wanting to buy a gift! Thanks again.

I feel that, some of my watch friends give me crap for wearing a $3,000 Omega whilst i bought my wife an $89 Citizen. I bought her a 36mm Rolex Datejust for her birthday last year, and she was scared to wear it anywhere besides at home (which felt weird for her). Certainly understandable for non-watch geeks to feel nervous with something like that on their wrist, but I've tried to convince her that wear and tears means a watch has been well loved and appreciated.

After looking at models in store it came down to the rolex OP 34 blue and the Omega AT 34, but wasn't really sure as I knew watches for myself but had never bought one for a woman; after watching this video decided to go with the aqua terra navy blue dial rose gold hands. She seems to really love it better than the blue OP as the rose gold hands go great with her rose gold wedding ring and jewelry and I also think it has more personality than the blue OP. The 38mm Seagull 1963 is a pretty unisex watch. I have a 35mm Citizen automatic only from the early 1990s, and that was considered as a man's watch back then!

@@timeandnourishment1961 Yes, in the 1990's men's watches were still quite small by current standards. I recall that many of them were around 34 to 36 mm. My husband has one of the Hamilton Ventura "Men in Black" watches from 2002, and that is only ~33 mm. I have the women's model from the same time, and it is 24 mm. I love the design of the watch, and it has sentimental value for me, so I don't want to sell it, but I hardly wear it any more because it seems too small to me now.

Great video however would of thought the Tudor Black Bay 32mm would of been a better option for us ladies! Personally 36mm is far too large for my wrist! I like the Breitling superocean but in the bright orange dial!! Just need Breitling to make it in a 32mm!! 🙂

  • @vanizorc

Same here - totally love the Breitling Superocean in the 36mm light blue dial configuration, but at 36mm it’s still way too big for many women for regular wear. If Breitling comes out with a 32mm version it’d be bloody perfect. As for the Tudor Black Bay 32mm, I want to like it, but the design is neither here nor there. It’s not a proper dive watch with no diving bezel and only 150m water resistance, and that kills it for me. I hope Tudor will release an actual Black Bay diver in the 32mm size in the near future.

However, it’s too bad that it’s only available in quartz. I will have to wait until they come out with an automatic version. Until then I will stick with my 34mm MarcelloC Nettuno auto.

For some reason white watches are often marketed for women. There's one I'm looking at made by Hamilton, and while but it's designated as a ladies watch, I find it very striking. And at 36mm I would rather designate it as unisex. Also I would think that the JLC rotor is 18k gold, not just gold toned, at that price

Extending on that, categorising a watch as "for women" by reducing the diameter, using a quartz instead of automatic movement, and most insultingly inflating the price by sticking diamonds on it, are also not what females necessarily want. I get extremely angry when a watch made for women has diamonds on it. It increases the price without improving the function of the watch. If I'm paying an extra AUD1000, I'd rather an automatic movement instead of a quartz. Diamonds are of no use to me, and in a professional context is often too blingy.
