    One of my particular needs for a photo is a pristine image, so to speak, in the realm of content creation. Often outdoors in a real world environment. Anything related shading or layering is created in software often changing in real time. So polarization effects are unwelcome. Of course anything sometimes needed for a work setting is a highly different beast. Therefore a video such as this on items I am not well knowledgeable about, the positives and the negatives, is highly informative. If the need requires it, though less convenient, static filters would be best. Thank you for making it.

    FINALLY SOMEBODY DOES THIS TEST! Man i love you! haha spent so much time and money on filters, just bought the K&F, but still not really happy Something I wonder if anyone has ever tried is: I do quite a lot of auto photo/video. For videos, if I have a cpl filter for the anti-glare and then put a variable ND filter over it, the white balance changes as soon as I turn the cpl a bit. With many filters that you put on top of each other and then specifically rotate, the colors are wrong. Has anyone ever had experience with this or does anyone know a filter without this negative effect?

    hi. The front of your lens must have the thread dimension in ‘mm’ so check it out. Otherwise K&F have 18 rings (9step down and 9 step up) and you can get them for less than $30. I think all together you get a range of 37mm to 82mm or so. Your ring range must be somewhere in btwn. I hope it helps

    if you are using only a 52mm thread lens, then buy a 52mm filter.

    thing is this is all on a wide angle and focusing on the ND, if it was a 50mm or an 85mm focusing past it, the results would defiently look very different

    I stole tilta mirage idea and put a gear ring on my VND filter and use the nucleus nano to drive it. its super helpful when I need all hands holding the rig. can set up in my perfect ISO/shutter settings then just dial around the VND while looking at my false color read out.

    CPL filters wont affect everything in your image. try shooting a car window mid day and put the CPL on and adjust it. you should see a very obvious change in the reflections on the glass. if not then its probably not a CPL filter.

    Filters have a different coating compared to a good quality lens (like the Canon "L" series). The lens is way less susceptible to scratching compared to filters. Better lenses have Fluorine coatings.

    I had the Nisi C5 Mattebox with variable ND and the Nisi variable ND rendered horrible lobster skin tones. At first I was confused why I was getting the weird skin tones that I could not color correct properly, then I realized it was the Nisi. I returned it. Make sure you test with skin tones and just pointing to a white wall does not give the whole picture. Thanks.

    At last! This is the first channel I follow that shares my opinion of mist, streak and other "effect" filters - waste of time. Do the effects in post and you still have the original shot. Once you apply an effect with a filter it severely limits your editing options.

  • @flipnap2112

    @flipnap2112

    I use a mist filter 1/8 for certain needs. You have to really understand what these filters do and when to use them. And you cannot get the same results with post without a lot of heavy lifting, and even then the results still feel digitally manipulated.

    @@flipnap2112 ND and CPL filters enable you to get shots that you otherwise couldn't. Any other filter can be replicated in editing and still leaves you the original image to play with. Mist or refractive filters of any kind remove your options in post.

    @@stew_redman You cannot replicate in post how a mist filter manipulates light before it hits the sensor. The same way you cannot replicate a CPL filter. If you shoot a CPL you cannot get your original image back either. These are risks we take on every shoot, so it’s important to be educated on exactly how a filter works and why we're using it.

    @@flipnap2112 We will just have to disagree. Any shot you can capture with a mist filter you can capture without - the same does not apply to ND and CPL filters. You may not be able to make highlights seem less pronounced, make shadows less rich, and lower the overall contrast of an image in editing software, but I can, it's not that hard. No mist filter required. And if you went in with no prior information I bet you could not tell the difference when viewing an image.

    @@AidanAnthonypv no you cannot!! Physics says no! The true colour VND is already polarising anyway! If you put a CPL on top of a VND all you will get is a big colour balance shift. I show this in my latest video. I've asked NiSi as to why they are saying you can because it's impossible!

    I hate to argue about your point about scratches on the lens. The reason why $20 lens protectors get scratches is just that they are $20. Your $3000 glass doesn't scratch that easy.
