I bought a Rolex Explorer II Polar Dial 16570 in 1992 after seeing it in ads in National Geographic Magazine. The watch was stunning! A very cool understated sports watch. Saved up and bought it. I have never been aware of watch aficionados not liking it since I have none in my circle of friends. My watch has been around the world a number of times and dived in most oceans (not deep), on race tracks, everywhere. No problems at all. The watch is great and I don't care if nerds don't like it. I like it, and that is why I bought it! I will keep it forever. It is a beautiful watch.

Excellent Reviews, I love the vlogs. I'm just getting into watch collecting and I love my SARB035 and Hamilton Khaki. What is your opinion on some of the automatic/mechanical watches that are on Kickstarter? Do you think they are worth the risk since they are unknown names and if so what are things to look out for when researching them?

I got my first Seiko SARB033 recently thanks to your positive reviews on Seiko watches. And I love it so far and I wonder what a Rolex watch would look and feel like as a $300 Seiko shows a high level of quality and craftsmanship. Explorer II seems perfect for someone who is looking for his first Rolex sport watch. And the white dial is beautiful! Thank you for the great vid!

Affordable homage would be a Seiko SUN025. Kinetic quartz movement so not as cool as an automatic but won't need a battery. Very attractive looking, machined clasp, solid end links, sapphire crystal on the face, and screw down crown as well. They are kind of scarily close but I fell in love with it without realizing it was an homage.

Well done review. I think this is the perfect length review for a watch like this. I have seen a few of these making appearances around KZread lately which makes me wonder, as KZread continues to grow along with the watch community within it, will we eventually see the prices of watches fluxuate to go along with some of the more popular reviewed watches on KZread during periods of time? Maybe it is a stretch, but I can see it having an impact in the used watch market. I guess time will tell. I also wanted to thank you again with the advice on the Speedmaster Professional a couple weeks ago. Got my Speedy a few days ago and am glad I went with the Hesalite version. Thanks again! As always, keep up the great work!

I have a P-Series Polar Explorer II....I agree it seems undervalued. They were more expensive than GMT II's when they were new. I think they will go up in value since there are not many white dial sports watches, and white dial GMT's in a reasonable size are even more rare.

+1 on the 40mm Exp II. It's a bit dressier (and thus more versatile) than the 42mm due to a more discreet size and subdued layout. That being said, I think the 42mm looks better in black. Oh, and regarding the 24 hour bezel, I set my GMT hand to home time, and I set the hour hand to whatever time zone I happen to be in. Thus by reading the GMT hand against the 24 hour bezel, I can tell if it is AM or PM in home time to avoid calling someone at 3AM!

I paid a little more for the Explorer II 42mm Polar. I personally like the maxi dial (larger) hour markers, new very bright long lasting chromolite lume, blueish color vs old green lume, large throw back nod to the broad orange 24 hour hand....and the upgraded clasp and solid bracelet. However, older models are very cool as well and a great piece to own.

Lowenski Garcia In short I've purchased 3 watches from them though none in the last few years. A datejust, a president and a submariner. I was happy with the sub and the datejust however the president had an aftermarket 18k Italian bracelet that they didn't disclose to me and that hurt me when I sold it. They have also raised their prices a bit. I don't have any recent experience with them. Hope that helps.

Nice watch. May I suggest an Everest Rubber strap for it? The white one looks very fresh. Actually, I would get a black one and a white one. They are pricey at around $250usd but it would really make that watch stylie and you could do a review of it. A nice thorough review - I think you're the first one to actually demo how the GMT works.

Once you go Rubber B, you will never go back to Everest. However Rubber B are a little more pricier. I've got my Explorer II polar, 42mm on a black Rubber B with a orange pin stripe which really pops with the orange 24 hour hand. My strap uses the Rolex clasp system as well with the micro-adjustments.

  • @jonathondenesi3291

The USDCAD exchange rate is killing me here in Canada. On top of the banks transfer fees, generally we are paying around $1.32-1.35 CAD FX rates. Obviously since the majority of eBay ads don't ship from Canada, or sell in Canadian $, it is a lot more expensive, around 33% more expensive to buy watches than it was a few years ago. Hopefully the Canadian dollar strengthens, making my watch hobby more affordable lol. Just imagine having to pay an extra 33% because of a weak dollar, sucks. The day we hit par, that'll be the day.

I don't really consider the Explorer II a real Explorer, they should have called it something else. You should get the very latest of the Explorer I's, the updated 2016 Explorer with the new longer hands etc. But that watch was made years and years after they used tritium and it doesn't have the required symbol on the dial, there must be another reason it's not glowing?

The best value Rolex is the one you can get at the biggest discount on the grey market and suffer next to no loss if you were to flip it straight away. Example, Yacht-Master 116622 platinum dial could be had 33% off new gray. It's lost virtually no value.

A value Rolex seems like an oxymoron. I do agree with you. The sub. at $8500 is the worst value of any watch that I'm aware of.

Yeah but wouldn't twice what you paid at 50% of the value you originally paid the same thing?

***** Oh I got you. That is if anyone would give you that much, they may just adjust for the crash and pay you 50% of what it was worth. I think you're right though, you probably would get double of the reduced dollar.

No offense, but your videos are WAY too wordy. You spent 6:25 before you actually showed the watch. Just get to the meat of what you made the video for.

For the life of me, i just can not understand why can`t you buy a better camera and a small microphone. I really like your channel, but the shooting quality is just awful. Autofocus is all over the place, the white balance is on the cold side and the sound is just horrible. Come on man, you can do better!

I actually use a Canon Mirrorless DSLR. I suspect it has less to do with the camera and more to do with my technique. What bother's you. The video is HD so is it the lighting, the soft focus etc? Thanks

Hey J! Thanks for your reply. Yeah, the resolution is decent. Well, first things first. Get a small mike, hidden under your shirt, because the echo`s terrible. Get the white balance right, on the warmer side if you can and i think the problem is with the lighting. Maybe you should use a diffused light source to better control the lighting and you can lock the focus when you are facing the camera, so the autofocus stops messing around. When you`re reviewing it`s ok if the focus gets a little messy, but when you`re standing down and talk, i think it`s better to lock the focus. Just googled around a bit and found a nifty article, if i may. www.videomaker.com/article/f04/17142-create-a-youtube-studio-in-your-room Keep up the good work!

Thank you, I really appreciate the help. The autofocus is pet peeve of mine as well...it is awful. Regarding audio, I used to put my mic on my shirt but it was picking up my breathing and my heart beat haha. I need to find a better solution.
