I truly don't know if I've grown jaded or not but I used to get excited to see movies in the theatre and today none of these movies are doing it for me. Part of this could be the oversaturation of movies in the market or it could be that few movies distinguish themselves among the many. It's sad because I would see a movie a week (three during the summer) when I was younger.

I think you may be correct; most of these movies are in the "been there, seen that" category. I keep watching these coming attractions in the hope one of them looks interesting enough for me to see it on the big screen.

Those new movies are mostly quite pretty, and I wish some of the old movies I used to watch when I was younger would have also looked that good, and sometimes I watch now just to enjoy the visuals... but mostly the new movies just bore me when it comes to their stories. Who still actually remembers something like Avatar now? Where are the memes, the jokes, the references in other movies? So now it will again be seen in cinemas - presumably to drum up at least SOME enthusiasm for the sequels... but how many people are really excited about that? Or about those sequels? The people who have the resources to make those big spectacles seem to have mostly lost most of their creativity. At least there seem to be some possible stirrings going on in other types of media. Like maybe comics. Rippaverse doesn't look too bad, maybe it can actually deliver something Marvel and DC used to, some decades ago. And there are some actually quite good novels being published as indie. And actually, even some of the indie short films being made are also surprisingly good. So who knows, maybe there will be a renaissance somewhere in the future when you no longer need the big bucks to make actual movies. Undoubtedly a lot of the stuff will be substandard, and the problem (and an opportunity for new business endeavors) will be finding the pearls hidden in all that muck, but since right now there doesn't seem to be any, or very few, of any kind of pearls, that still has to be better than what we have now.

well 2 of them look good. apart from Avatar, Goodnight Mommy and Mona Lisa and Bad moon look good. Alienoid is another interesting one. Rest seem low budget movies. these are not your typical blockbusters which are going to attract the wide audience.

Quite a few of these movies contain embarrassing amounts of gratuitous violence and unrealistic, irresponsible attitudes, which will just keep promoting the violence and lack of decent values and manners becoming more common across the US! Hollywood "moguls" and self-centered "stars" continue to produce very psychologically damaging movies in their selfish search for blockbusters that purposely include the worst aspects of our desires and emotions. We need some better moguls, screenplays and actors. Step up, Hollywood!

I think that's a misinterpretation. Oprah was trying to convey how different of an experience Poitier had growing up in a peaceful, positive black community, and how it was such a culture shock to his identity when he came to America. His refusal to let others dictate who he was is integral to his story. The story can't be told without pointing out that his sense of self was developed in a good environment that was black. She's not comparing positive black communities to white communities, she's comparing them to negative black communities.
