Black 🖤 magic power. We are the most diverse culture on the planet. Period!!
Even though I’m a Jamaican descendant and offspring of a line of Rastas I was never told or made to loc my hair without choice. Grew up experiencing the dirty looks and nasty comments said about my father because of is locs. I always saw locing your hair as a spiritual journey as much as it is a physical one. Im 24 now but as I get older I am yielding to the calling to loc and allowing my ancestors to guide me on my journey.(With me knowing family history...Adding extensions will forever be a no no but do you) I grew up hearing a lot of the gems said in these comments. There’s a huge misconception between young people wanting to loc their hair because of the “ugly phase” but just trust the ancient process and make your journey sweet. Blessings Kings and Queens.

I started with locs as small as buds right after my big chop. I was never ashamed bc I was so happy and excited abt the journey. Locs grow so quick and are so healthy for my 4c hair. Semi free form loc'd for nearly 10 years now. Instead of coils/palm rolls I started with interlocked baby locs. This was because I had an active lifestyle and needed to wash my hair every week in a hot climate. I had an awkward loc stage for about 6 months til they started maturing and I absolutely love them now. I've learned to maintain them myself by interlocking the new growth every 2-3 months and went from taking 6 hours to do my whole head to a little over 2 hours just from practice. I love how low maintenance they are and the versatility of styles. Most days I wake up and walk out the door ready to go. No fuss!
I can’t wait to get my locs! I think I’m going to get traditional locs. My dad has locs and they are all the way down to his butt. I used to be scared of getting them because of the “ugly stage” but I realized that I’m only thirteen and Ill be happy I got them in 2 years. And I’m sure my dad had an ugly stage too so :) no regrets

I have freeform "matt babies" in my straight hair, I do not call them dreads or locs because it's not my culture! My hair gets matted very easy so I separate and let it knot. Most people give me nasty looks for my appearance but that's ok because it's nothing of the discrimination others have experienced. We have to remember we are all humans and before civilization and colonization no one had a brush. I love to see all the methods available for other hair types. Too beautiful. 💜💜💜💜

Locs are about love for me. Learning to love me and my hair I spent most of my life hating my 4c hair but now I feel so free

wow same reason i decided to know how to get hair as a black all my life i always cut my hair i never really know love we’re a think about blacks
Started with braid locs over 13 years ago, maintained by interlocking. Cut it several times then cut it all off 3 years ago. Now, 3 months in my 2nd set. I love them, started with palm rolling, maintaining by interlocking. Loving me, loving the journey.
"Loc-ing" naturally straight hair is actually "matting" the hair strands. Hair locs (strands curl around other strands) when the hair is very curly or nappy. There is nothing to "loc/wind/curl around" when hair is naturally straight.

The types of locks imma get don’t really have any downsides. For real for real it was just like, “You may have ugly stages and my be ashamed to let others see you in public with them.” That’s not a good enough reason for me to NOT get them. I’m only 15 years old so imma be good wit the locks thanks.

Formed my locs back in 1984. Never regretted it.
Sooooo informative. I can't wait!!!
I've been natural for about 11 years now. I've just let my hair grow during this time. I love the versatility of my hair, but I love locs! I'm considering semi free forming locs due to the neatness. I'm hesitant because once I do it, that's it! LOL... No more silk press, curling wands, or any forms of heat on my hair. Not sure if I'm ready yet.

Sister locs might suit you best then. They’re expensive but very versatile
Well Done... Very Good with the breakdown of loc's!!!!!!!!👏👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thank you for the informative video. I'm excited about starting loc journey. This was extremely helpful in deciding which method. I think I will be going with the semi free form. Praying that I can find the best loctician for my journey. 🙏🏼❤

I'm glad you enjoyed the video 💞.
Thank you for this. I am really contemplating going the micro-loc route.
I had the traditional locs (actually just findin out theyre called this) for nearly 20 years. I LOVED them. However the narrator is correct. Until the hair actually locs, (which can take AWHILE) the wearer may feel their hair is unattractive as it goes thru the transition. Hair grows really fast once locked and id cut it after it got too long (waist length was too long for ME). Then id let it grow again, then cut again. Finally, i reluctantly cut them all the way off thinkin that the weight of my hair was responsible for balding on the top of my head. However, it turns out it was actually a health concern behind my hair loss. Im currently considering going through the process of growing them again from scratch and i appreciate this video. I guess ill do it the handrolling method i used the first time i locked as each loc was uniform in size and had pretty curls at the end. Thanks again for such a thorough , well produced video😘.
So helpful, thank you! I really like the microlocs!

Freeform is your own custom set of locs😍 I loved mine and the only down side in freeform locs is probably popping them lol.

Wow super helpful I didn’t know all the different types ! Thank you!💕
Nice video, very informative. I’ve had locs for 10 years. My locs were stated with a two strand twist. And then they were interlocked and palm rolled. They are currently about 20 inches long at the longest point. My question deals with thinning in the front of my head. I’m not losing locs but I am noticing thinning. It is in the front through out and hair line zones. Any suggestions as I go on the journey to restore the front zones
This was a well done and thought out video. Thanks!
Great information. Thank you, I'm going to start my loc journey with braid micro locs.
I locced my hair a whole year ago and it was and is the best decision I could have ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome info thank you 🙏🏾 so much!!!
There's nothing wrong with the term "dreadlock" as far as I know. In fact, growing up, we more commonly called them "dreads" or "madredi". But I guess it's a different perception in western spheres.

I want to strengthen and grow out my hair a little more before starting my traditional lock journey. That slide she showed was absolutely gorgeous. They’re not too thick and they’re not too thin either. I’m half 🇯🇲 and have always been fascinated by locs. I feel like my hair would grow so much faster if I had locs and I get so tired of free form hair
I love your video. Its very informative. I wish I could have watched this before I started my journey. Its funny though I am a traditional starter.
This was wonderful and so informative! Thank you so much!
Thanks for posting. I learned a great deal with your comparison. I love your micro loc. My question is what is the downside to waiting to long to reti the microlocs? Is it the same as losing hair like sisterlocs?
@luckygirl20000

Yes depending on the size of the microlocs, the smaller they are, the more likely you are to loose hair if you take longer to retie.💕
Omg everybody so BEAUTIFUL THIS IS CRAZY

I'll be starting my first set on me and my kids. I'm excited for us. I'll be starting my son's tomorrow. Me and my husband dont believe in cutting our kids hair in no kind and my sons dont like getting their hair done all the time so it'll be easier for me and them. This video helped a lot.

Sister locs are perfect
Sister locs looks better to me 🤔. When the time comes, I’d get them thicker. Thick enough to still do anything with them.
Great informative video! Very thorough and inclusive :) thanks!
