That's why I bought a 95 Corolla with 217k miles on it for $1,200. Sure I had to replace a few hundred dollars worth of easy parts(pads/calipers/rotors) and had to replace brake lines, as a few other minor things(that could have turned into major down the road), but the motor and transmission run like a clock, and sure beat the hell out of my '13 Nissan sentra that needed a new transmission every 30k miles and a new motor every 80k miles. Luckily all that was replaced under warranty, though I only had it for less than 2 years! It had 17k miles when I bought it and gave it back to the bank with 75k miles when it was ready for a new motor and a SECOND transmission!! And what the did the dealer say? "Dur we can replace them for free" right but guess who has to foot that bill when the warranty is up??? Never again. I'm never getting rid of my Corolla, I'll run it to a million miles and beyond lol

Thanks Scotty for posting this. I’m a Canadian doing mission work in the Philippines and he’s spot on about the Toyota Revo. A tough, reliable workhorse that gets you from point A to B and back again. I remember driving through flood waters following a bus, branches and coconuts hitting the side of the car in the torrent, but the Revo chugged strait through. Nice video, loved it.
This car was so popular in Indonesia at 2000s, we called it Toyota Kijang. Kijang means Deer in English. This car has 2 rivals, it was Mitsubishi Kuda and Isuzu Panther. Kuda means Horse, and Panther just means Panther (has name from animal too). But, both rivals not successful as Kijang, Kuda was discontinued at 2005, and Panther still survive but still with an old model until now, some says if Panther is an eternal model just like Mitsubishi L300. For this Kijang model, some say if this model was a Baby Land Cruiser 80 and 100 series, and Mitsubishi Kuda also called as Baby Pajero Exceed (Not Pajero Sport model). Now Kijang has a great successful lineage with 6 successful generations in Indonesia from 1977 until nowadays.

Its an Asian Utility Vehicle or AUV for short. These cars were popular in most parts of Asia during the 1990s up to the early 2010s. Toyota has been competing with Mitsubishi and Isuzu in this segment but this car was discontinued in favor of having a MPV/minivan succesor in 2006. Too bad these cars are being overshadowed by MPVs (Multi-purpose Vehicle) or what they call in the west as minivans. Mitsubishi already followed Toyota's footstep and discontinued their contender Mitsubishi Adventure in favor of a minivan. Isuzu is the remaining seller in this segment and its the Isuzu Crosswind/Panther.

20 odd years on and you still see these things running around in Malaysia, where it's called Toyota Unser. Proud owner of one. Toyota should continue making this wonderful vehicle. Almost as indestructible as a Russian bukhanka van.
I love all the ways you logically justified all your points about this vehicle. I hope you both live a lot longer.
What a great speaking voice this owner of the Tamaraw has. He could be a great spokesman for Toyota! Did the chicken come with the vehicle? :-)

My father-in-law has a Zace (same car as this one) with 400,000 km on it, still running strong. For a 1.8 L petrol engine to move around this large of a car for so long is astounding.
we had one, and it's still alive, the diesel pusher is a monster! 8 seats occupied and towing 600kg, and it pulled everything uphill.
my parents had the Tamaraw with 4K gas engine - 1998 Toyota Revo gas engine - 2007 Toyota Innova J 2.5L Diesel MT and now a 2011 toyota innova 2.5L Diesel E AT which has 275,000 kms and still going. This one swam through Typhoon Sendong flood in Iligan City and Typhoon Vinta in Cagayan de Oro. Never had engine issues except for the a/c and never overhauled. The tamarraw FX to innova line is a strong line for Toyota. I never really trust the new Avanza - Rush line. Weak gas engine and flimsy build. May the Innova line continue and keep the diesel too. Good job on the review sir and to you @ScottyKilmer

I'm from the Philippines (Manila). This vehicle is actually used as like a carpool taxi (public vehicle). Private individuals buy it. Pay around $1000 for a franchise license to register it as a carpool taxi (we call it as "FX"). Then it stops at a certain station, fills up with 10 passengers before it leaves. Then goes to another station. Although people can get off at any place within the route. Very tough considering that it is always filled with passenger, goes thru potholes, goes thru flooded streets . This is the vehicle that started the carpooling scenario in the Philippines, afterwards Mitsubishi also created their own AUV called as the Highlander. It used to operate carpooling unlicensed, and soon the government realized the need to get licensing to operate it to get some money from individuals who own it.
There's a reason why Toyota dominated the vehicle market here in the Philippines. The Tamaraw FX as we call it here is iconic and gave the brand recognition for its reliability.

Kijang is a very popular and literally indestructible car here in Indonesia. The price in the used car market is still very high for a 15+ y.o. car. The newer generation is called the "Innova", shares the same chassis with the Hilux and Fortuner.

I remember what happened 3 or 5 years back when an empty steel container toppled on a Metro Manila highway & it fell on top a Toyota Revo similar to the one on this video except for its color. The Revo had no serious damage & its roof survived that impact. The tires did not even explode on impact! I also remember that demand of Revo at that time resurged because of what happened!
