    Absolutely love the idea for this new series! Of course, some of the old recipes from Berry's books (not his originals) seem like stinkers from looking at the ingredients, but I'd love to know either way! Especially excited for when you get to the Pétion from Potions of the Caribbean, since I want to hear your spiel about Clairin.

    at the end of an extended visit to an incredible place in brooklyn, I asked the bartender for a Ti' Punch for a nitecap and left to use the restroom. no more than two minutes later I returned to my seat to be greeted by the most elegant presentation of a 'classic' Ti' Punch you might get in Martinique (replete with full bottle and swizzle, fancy glasswear, etc.). To top it all off was this intricately decorated lime that stopped me in my tracks. "How long did that take you?", I asked. "As long as it took you in the bathroom." she replied. Check-mate. Nearly two years later, I now know it's a 'tribal lime'. thanks Leandro.

    Love your videos and content. Excited to try this one! Tiki cocktail question. If you have 15oz Tiki glasses (Christmas Present) do you make Ancient Mariner for example same as your recipe calls for and just add more ice to fill space OR do you increase ingredients to match the glass (double the drink)? Thanks for the guidance! Happy 2023 to you!

  • @TheEducatedBarfly

    @TheEducatedBarfly

    First measure the volume of the cocktail and how much ice displacement fills the glass fyi the glass I use in this video is a 15oz double old fashioned glass so on this case you won’t need to do anything but sometimes the volume of a glass would call for doubling specs.

    Tried this tonight. A few takeaways: My wife prefers Jet Pilots which is kinda similar... Just a few extra ingredients and cinnamon syrup instead of allspice dram (ok, a completely different drink). My fresh squeezed lime juice overpowered the drink so I had to scale back on lime. I also felt like I needed to increase the amount of simple syrup and allspice dram to balance it to my liking. The only demerara rum I have ready access to is Hamilton 151 so I went with .75 oz of that and 1.25 oz of Appleton Signature. Ancient Mariner is a great drink that reminds me of grogs I've made. Fun to tweak!

    You mentioned doing a vid on making your own allspice dram. I'd like to see that :)

    Hi Leandro, great video! Just one thing that I think needs more attention. Appleton Estate, whilst being really great rum, isn't quite Jamaican Rum. Yeah, it is made in Jamaica, but it is more British (talking rum-wise) than French. It is not Funky, very mild and not offensive, like for example Doorley's (by R.L Sea aka Foursquare). A true Jamaica rum, with high esters that resembles banana and grilled pineapple, as well as bit of acetone and asphalt would be Hampden 8, or even Habitation Velier Worthy Park. The rum world nowadays is on its way to be one of the greatest beverages markets, and even now you can find a lot of great examples. Keep up the great job!

    I was just about to ask if you worked at Cole’s!! I used to come in for lunch and you made me the absolute best penicillin I’ve ever had every single time. We’d discussed that I’d never had a gin martini I liked. You were going to change my mind…but we never got around to it. Anyway I’m glad you’re doing well!

    @@TheEducatedBarfly I've been following your channel for a while and just kept thinking I was crazy, that it couldn't possibly be you. I'll have to give the martini a go! I use your whisky sour recipe all the time and if I can brave the egg I think I can tackle a martini...although I'm sure it would be much better made by you paired with a french dip ;)

    You often reference "whip shaking", but not how it differs to normal shaking or a METALSHAKE 🤘, So a little vid explaining/demonstrating the differences would be great. Also, yes to the DIY allspice dram please. Cheers.

    Just curious, have you or would you do a eppisode on black rum. I love black rum with dr peper or sometimes a cherry variation of a dark soda. But im wondering if theres any actual cocktails involving black rum or not?
