The Best Thing to Do with Your Anxiety - Louie Giglio

To close out a powerful collection of talks on the enemy and the weight of anxiety, Pastor Louie leads listeners in a response; to declare Jesus over our circumstances and join in prayer with those who are in the pit of their struggle with anxiety. He shares four crucial words to respond as followers of Jesus to the pressure that comes with our anxious thoughts: Humble, Cast, Lift, and Care. By walking through the process embedded in these words and in this Scripture, we respond as God intended us to respond to fear, depression, and anxiety.

At Passion City Church, we believe that because God has displayed the ultimate sacrifice in Jesus, our response to that in worship must be extravagant. It is our privilege, and our created purpose, to reflect God’s Glory to Him through our praise, our sacrifice, and our song.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS //
1. What does society point toward to relieve stress and anxiety? Take a quick second to pull out your phones and research what the experts of the day are suggesting.
2. Of all that is recommended on the internet, what advice can you parallel with the Word of God? In other words, are there any passages in Scripture that suggest something similar to what psychologists and therapists are suggesting?
3. How do you “Humble yourself”? What practical things can you do to contribute to making yourself a humble person before God?
4. As a group, try to name 10 experiences that are humbling in nature. To help think of things, try to answer this question ten times: “What is something that makes you feel small, life feel short, or God seem great?”
5. If anxiety were a physical object, it would be simple to “cast” it but what does it mean to “cast” something nonphysical, like anxiety?
6. What are practical things you can do to cast anxiety on God (Hint: 1 Pet. 5:1-5; 8-11)? If something you think of seems obvious, still share it with the group because it may be informative to someone else.
7. Pastor Louie asked the people of our House to raise their hands if they ever had a moment in their life where they “felt like they were actually going crazy.” If you had that moment in your life and you feel comfortable, share as much of the context around that time as you would like to share.
8. Many people struggle to relate to people facing anxiety and depression. If this is you, and you cannot name a time where you dealt with all that intense an anxiety, what are some of the practices in your life that may contribute to your having a relatively “sound” mind?
9. If you think you are “sound” in mind, what is your plan to stay “watchful” (1 Pet. 5:8)?
10.What anxieties are you dealing with currently? If you feel comfortable to share, bring them to the group so someone in the group can pray over your situation. End by praying for each other.

This was good! In my 37 years of serving God the enemy has tried to steal my joy and peace.... he really must be threatened by the peace and joy we have in Christ!

What a blessing to hear these words. My heart is broken by loss and many other things but seeing that the Almighty cares for me and will eventually lift me out of this pit…if I acknowledge I can’t do it. I can’t fix it. I can’t control anything. I give it to Yahweh.

I went through severe depression with ptsd from childhood trauma. I had been doing well until about 3 years ago, but it has become critical at this time. I am supposed to enter an inpatient trauma disorder program tomorrow, if I have the courage. I heard another sermon that you gave talking about this before, and I was just searching for it when I found this. I am watching it now, but the original sermon I saw was the most accurate description of depression I have ever heard from a pastor. I am trying to hold on, and I want to thank you for speaking out and reaching out to others. ❤

@katefree9539 Oh Sweetness, you just touched my ❤Grandma Heart ❤ with your story! I completely understand as I have battled crippling anxiety and debilitating depression. Thank you for sharing your situation and although I don't know you I care deeply and pray you find the help you need. We can all help each other by sharing our hearts full of compassion and encouragement. Your comment was four months ago, and if I'm not intruding, I would love to know how you are doing if you care to share your heart with me! You were very brave then "to try and hold on" even though your courage was under attack! If perhaps you were not able to enter the program at that time, please know that you WILL be able to yet!! If you were able to, I hope it helped even if only a little!❤ This fight is never won in one big battle ~ but a series of small victories that build and build! I hope to hear from you Kate if only to say "Hi"! Whether or not you respond, I'm going to keep you in my daily prayers and keep on lifting you up to the Father that adores you, the Savior who died for His Great Love for you, and your eternal Friend, The Holy Spirit, who holds you close every second in His Embrace. 🌸Love, A Tennessee Grandmother ~ " Pooh" (My Grand-Kiddo's name for me)🌸

@lindahaggard6416 you are so kind. ❤️ I was able to get in, and it does give me some tools. I am waiting to enter another program to address chronic pain and digestive issues that are related. They also plan to address the depression as well. I believe that the enemy is pouring salt in my wounds, and I have to keep fighting. It is hard, but I keep immersing myself in the Bible and praying for strength. Thank you very much for your prayers and kind words. 🙏 Maranatha!!!

@@katefree9539 Good Morning 🌞 Sweetness🌞! I was tickled 🩷 pink to hear from you 🩷 and the success you had with the program! Any "tools" you can add to your Depression Toolbox helps you build on your successes ~ no matter how small! You get the Courage Award for getting there because Satan really didn't want you to accomplish that and was really messing with your mind hoping you'd "chicken out" . Well, you won that battle! The hardest thing in the world is to "Do it Afraid"! But it's those times that we conquer something that will positively change our lives. During my depression/anxiety war I have had some ridiculous fears that have kept me in bondage. Satan is a liar and he delights in, as you said, pouring salt in our wounds. Depression knocked on my door courtesy of a Narcissist I let in my life. They are soul vampires and leave you mentally, emotionally, financially, and physically bankrupt. I also completely understand chronic pain and it's effect on your body and mind. In 2005 I was a passenger in a wreck (the Narc was driving drunk) and broke my pelvis. It's pain 24/7/365 for all those years. I lost 70 lbs in a year and looked like a scarecrow. I have finally managed to get to 115 lbs taking promethazine and zofran daily. I would be very interested in what your next program teaches you! I found out last night just how easy it is to pray for you 🙏 an ease usually found in praying for my G-kids! I think it's because you are working so hard to get better, putting in the effort and time. It's just easier to just give in! Also, your knowledge of where your help comes from and your faith. Gotta run ~ picking up my "Rowdy Rascal's" from school and go out to eat! They live with me and have from birth. My daughter too ~ long story! You've never been loved unconditionally by anyone the way a G-Kid loves you! I'm really just a 73 yr young "Antique Teenager"! Thanks for listening to my story! I'll keep the prayers coming my dear! 🌸Hope you're having a good day

@@katefree9539Hi Kate, how are you doing now? I am another grandmother reaching out and praying for you to overcome all that you have been facing. Please let us know how you are doing now, if you get the chance. I realize that we often don't look at how big God is, and how able and willing to be strong for us. We just have to believe He is larger than anything we are facing.

Colossians 1:15-17 The Supremacy of the Son of God 15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Concerning the fracturing nature of anxiety far superior to Kintsugi is the blood of our savior Jesus Christ.
