My chronic tennis elbow (there is tendon damage) is kept in abeyance by my Head MicroGel Oversize strung with a soft syngut at 55 lbs. And, it's only $99. Get it re-strung upon receipt and don't play with the factory strings.

A better measure of whether a racquet is arm-friendly is the characteristic vibration frequency response of the frame. High frequencies are more jarring on the arm, and lower frequencies feel "softer" during actual play. But this metric isn't as easy to measure as static stiffness, so it's common to use the RA flex rating as a proxy. I did a data study a while ago, and while there is a clear correlation between the two metrics, some stiffer racquets (65+) have vibration frequencies that are surprisingly lower than expected. But the safe choice would be to always go with a flexible racquet, because there doesn't seem to be any cases in my study that shows low RA racquets having high vibration frequencies.

Great video and very useful . As a 67 year old low club level veteran player , keen to continue playing but years ago plagued by tennis elbow , like many of my fellow vets at the club , i needed to solve this problem . I switched to the large head Volkl with the ‘floating’ piece at the bottom of the head , which was demonstrated . This worked and has continued to work for a number of years . The racquet has plenty of power for the short swing which i cannot change due significant back issues and i was recommended by a fellow vet to further elbow proof , by using natural gut , which also helped even further and has enjoyable feel . More expensive yes , but I only play a couple of times a week at a social level and i rarely break strings . A lot cheaper than a trip to the physio or doctor for injections .

Volkl VSense 10 325 (2018? version) completely relieved my tennis elbow pain. As soon as I picked it up the pain was gone. I used a Theraband Flexbar to work on the arm and after a while I was able to use other racquets as well. I keep that Volkl in my bag just in case the arm acts up again, but it's been 2 years since I used it last. My advice for anyone suffering with tennis elbow is to demo a bunch of the racquets recommended and see what works for you, but also use the Flexbar!

I've tried three ProKennex models, the Volkl V-Cell 1, and the Wilson Triad 3 and 5. The Triads win, hands-down. The Volkl was awful -- felt like a 2x4. The ProKennex technology sort of works, but you still feel a lot of shock and vibration. But once you try the Wilson Triads, everything else feels harsh. I have both models, and they cured my tennis and golf elbow. Can't say enough good things about them.

This is, actually an important topic and more complex than how that looks like. Some say that flexible string set up with less stiffness racquet can make your elbow in real suffering. Because, that means lack of power and to gain power, you harsh your arm in your strokes. So, the common recipe of soft-soft, losing sense here. A pro tennis player friend even told me that, lower tensioned poly helps better for tennis elbow than a multifilament or gut string does do. Because it is stiff and not choking the energy of the ball at stringbed and instead, just reflecting the ball with conserving its energy in it precisely. Maybe you, dear Harry, can make an entire podcast with a racquet physician to lecture us about the physics of racquet, the elbow and tennis arm. It is probably not only about string set up and the racquet kinds, rather, the elbow issue also includes the tennis balls and the quality of technique and fitness of a player. Thanks a lot!

from my limited experience, i think TE is personal. i had numbness in my hand from Wilson Hammer and Head youtek IG 102. both head heavy. i've had collarbone pain from Ezone DR 100 300. right now i'm using Ezone DR 100 285 weighted up to 340g which has lower flex and i don't have any pain. as far as i can tell, for my arm, the flex and balance is the most relevant factor.

My understanding is that you add a ton of lead tape to your racquets and that's another way to reduce shock and vibration. Adding it at 3/9 gives you more stability and increases twistweight for a more comfortable racquet. My solution is a soft racquet with lead tape to make up the difference in power with stiff racquets. The downside is that you have to increase your fitness to use it.

I used the C10 pro and the v-feel 10 320 and the v-feel V1 pro, and now I now use the V-Cell 9 and it is a stiffer racquet but no arm issues in any of the volkls due to the handle dampening system. One of the best ways to manage the tennis elbow is learn to hit in the sweet spots + gut ( hybrids ) seriously because of the racket technology most of us never actually never learned to hit the ball properly. Film your strikes and see whether you are hitting in the sweetspots. It cab help reduce a lot of pain.

That's actually the hard truth that needs to be accepted. Proper technique, proper warmup as well as not playing 4 hours matches after you've not played for 2 months etc. Almost all rackets nowadays are elbow friendly. Hitting well with a "bad" racket will be 10 times better for your elbow than hitting poorly with a "good" racket.

A couple of inches of lead tape at 3 and 9 o'clock can really help smooth out a pingy raquet and absorb energy from incoming fast balls. I've strung and customised hundreds of raquets for mainly low/mid level club players and even the most feeble swingers have commented that the extra weight made their raquets feel better. No one has mentioned balls yet, some balls are harder than others, our club changed to Head from Slazenger because they were cheaper but they feel much harder and the incidence of TE complaints increased. One last one to consider. Don't play with wet balls, ie if its been raining and the courts are wet the balls will pick up this moisture and increase in weight, definitely not good for TE. Probably more of a problem on syn grass or clay than hard court though

I am beginner player. I've been using Head Graphene+ Extreme Tour for a couple of months now and I had to take a month brake on practing so I could recover from a severe tennis elbow. I've been looking for a new racket to retake my tennis and researching I found my self completely lost under so many options. I live in Brazil and I don't have access to that many options you guys have there and no demoing service from any store I know. So I must be choosing something almost in the dark, unfortunately. From low budget I found the Head Microgel Radical OS. On the ProKennex line I've been lining up Ki Q+15 Pro, Black Ace 105 and Ki Q+ Tour Pro 315. From Wilson ranks I listed Clash 108 V2 and the Triad Five. As my current racket has so different setup I am aware I will have to adapt my game and will find some trade off on the search for elbow comfort. I'd like to know if you could spare me a tip or opinion. Channel fan here.

So less likely to cause TE then pretty much all racquets on sale as of 4 years ago but if you have te or are getting it with that racket then something with sub 60 flex and soft multis strung below 45lbs is sensible (like a clash) or the above but with an arm dampening thing as well like a kennex black ace

To address my aching elbow, I demoed the ProKennex Q+20, Volkl V-Cell 1 and Wilson Triad 3 because each has unique technology to make it more elbow-friendly. All three were strung at about 55 pounds. I really wanted the ProKennex to win because I liked the feel, and it seemed to make my serve more consistent. But I decided on the Triad 3. Its flexing head made hitting the ball really comfortable, but still with plenty of power. The ProKennex technology works, but not as well as Wilson's, IMO. It does reduce the vibration, but you still feel every bit of that initial contact with the ball. The Volkl was ruled out immediately. The vibration was terrible if I hit anything off-center. YMMV...

I really cannot recommend Clash, at least 100. I have problems with elbow playing with Clash. It is flexible, but it is extremely headlight and lite racket overall. I don't know which model is the silver/black/red Volkl racket that Harry showed after the ProKennex. Based on the head shape, it looks like the V1 model, which is the all-around tennis racket that I had used in the past. I used the V1 when Volkl first started making tennis rackets. And since then, Volkl keeps making the same V1 "classic" model plus all the newer version of the V1's. It is a great intro Volkl racket which does everything well and very comfortable. There are other Volkl models which is more powerful, or can generate more spin, or more towards the pro style control-oriented rackets. But the V1's and the V1 classic is a great racket to try the Volkl technology/system.

@@sccnmx idk if that's how you feel about the TE issue, but Harry here only brings up 2 racquets at the end he recommends for higher level players(skill level), in which he agrees with doctor recommendations. the rest is about specific TE preventing racquet technology. but the point he is trying to make with this video is preventing TE via racquet technology. that's basically the same point the doctor is trying to make. doctors aren't tennis experts. they recommend more flexible racquets, which is racquet technology. how patients interpret that to their unique physiology is up to them. who's to say a more flexible racquet won't prevent TE for some people of all skill levels.
