Thank you so much for all this information! I applied to JET thinking all dispatch companies were a bit scummy, but I just found out about Altia today and it looks very promising. JET just takes so long with the application process (I'm ready to leave now) and the random placements around the country isn't great either.

Hey there! I was slotted to be hired by ALTIA back in 2020, but then COVID happened and I wasn't comfortable with the uncertainty of the looming pandemic, so I chose to stay. I'm able to come over this year (fingers crossed!) and I was wondering what orientation was like, how they helped you settle in, and what a typical school day looks like for you. If it's not possible to make a video about it, would you be comfortable answering these questions in an email? I'd really appreciate it!

Ah the "supposed to be hired by Altia but Covid" thing happened to me too! I actually went with a different company who was able to get me into the country sooner for this reason. So, sorry I'm not sure about the orientation and such... I heard great things from friends who are Altia teachers though. Best of luck moving here! I hope all goes well

Hello! I work for JET and 95% of the time they will do everything to get you housing before you arrive here. I believe the only time you are on your own with figuring out housing is if you are a JET placed in Tokyo. Also when it comes to cars and such, it honestly just depends on your contracting organization. Some will give you a car to use for free, while others will tell you that you need to get a car on your own. Hopefully this is helpful information,

Do you need a degree outside of the tefl to teach there? Also can anyone recommend a reputable tefl course I can take?

@@rayneparker7421 You need a bachelors degree, but the type of degree doesn't matter. This is because it's a requirement for the visa when working in Japan. I did my TEFL certification online with TEFL academy but you don't need a TEFL certification. It looks better and boosts your chances, but I've met many people who didn't have a TEFL certification who got in.

My country is eligible for JET, but the embassy here is not looking for ALTs, so I'm searching for alternatives! Thank you for this video.

From my personal research and considering only ALT companies that hire from overseas, JET or Altia are the only companies I can confidently recommend that have both good working conditions and livable salaries.

One thing jet does is they will also give your spouse and dependants Visas as well, does Altia do that too? Would the housing be provided still for a family?

Thanks for the video very informative. How do you get you Japanese drivers license, also seems Altia requires you to know some Japanese, is this correct

Yes, Altia does require you to know at least some Japanese, but beginner level is fine! As for a drivers license that’s a wholeee process. I’m getting mine soon so I will make a video on it!

This company seems to be a good one to look into, but I don't have a driver's license (Not in the US either It's a long and complicated story). So, Unless, there's a position where driving isn't needed, pretty sure they'd reject me. But I have worked as an ALT before (2021-2022 school year) and loved the job and the students I taught! So, I would love to be able to do it again. I've been doing some research on better companies. Unfortunately, the company I worked for didn't treat its employees well and lied to us all the time. We were also only paid by the hour, so if we weren't working, we weren't getting paid. The pay wasn't even a living wage on a good month.

I love the insight and thanks for the heads up. I am a teacher in Nigeria and would love to apply. So, i will wait for May as seen on their site. But please can you tell me what you know about Gaba company. I have made research but nothing really shows up and I am scheduled for an interview with them. I don't want to make a mistake by leaving my present job and country to have regrets since it is a foreign country. Please help me out. thank you. You earned a new subscriber.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply, I hope your interview went well! I actually don't know much about Gaba... I would recommend checking out AEON though as I've had a great experience with them. I want to teach in a school setting where I'm sure of monthly salary. I will apply with the company you suggested. Thanks once again

I'm so glad to hear the video was helpful! As for Altia, you don't need any teaching experience. You will have to submit a sample teaching video, but they'll give you guidelines to prepare for that. I also recommend giving the JET application another try! I know some people who were rejected at first time, but got it the second time, Best of luck!!

subscribed! :) With Japan's toxic work culture, do you think it's still worth it learning Japanese for career opportunities, given that it'd take 2-3 years to reach the intermediate level? :( What do you advice?

Hmm this is a good question! Personally I wouldn’t want to work in a traditional Japanese office, BUT there are actually a lot of opportunities to work in internationally owned companies in Tokyo (most -not all- of the good ones require at least N2 in Japanese level) so I’d say for that it can be worth it. How can I get in touch with you? I have some questions regarding the programme. The first one is, What can I do after finishing the JET or ALTIA programme? Usually the companies respond right away, I’m not sure if these ones specifically hire from India or not, so make sure to check with the company if your country is eligible before you apply! Best of luck~

I think it’s possible! Just make sure to check the Altia website to see when they’re hiring. I think they only hire like twice a year but I forgot when 🤔 Also yeah it’s a fixed salary !

On a student visa your able to work part-time (up to 28 hours a week) so you can do part- time English teaching while studying!

I think JET has an age cap, but there are definitely companies that are less restrictive. I think AEON might be a safe bet. Best of luck!^^
