I've seen sooooo many anti-sunscreen propaganda lately online. People are saying that sunscreen is what's causing the cancer in the first place and soo many more nonsense. I did not wear sunscreen until i was 29 🙄 i know i know, but not because i refused to,i was just not educated about skincare at all,and i do see the damage but trying to fix it is harder. I do wear my sunscreen every single day of the year now.

I've seen one derm recommend Badger for kids in her kids sunscreen video. Black Girl Sunscreen has a chemical SPF 50 kids sunscreen, fragrance free, water resistant for face and body. I've used that myself. It's emollient so depending on the child, they may or may not like that one. Glad you pointed out the transferring of sunscreens to different containers. Lab Muffin definitely said that's a no-no as well.

Fabulous video as always, thank you Dr Ellis. I love the UltraViolette Hand and Body SPF50+++ that comes in a 1L bottle - I buy it during the Sephora sale. It smells of coconut cream and feels like a lovely body lotion and my teenage nephews apply it quite happily. For my son, I still have to hold him down to apply it, but for a top-up or when I'm caught in a pinch, he loves the Neutrogena Beach Stick which smells of pineapples and coconut.

This is really helpful! I've been wondering, when it comes to school age kids, how do you handle sunscreen? They're indoors a lot but still have recess. Do you recommend trying to get sunscreen on them as part of the morning routine? They also aren't going to be reapplying sunscreen during the school day. Do you just not worry about it? I live somewhere where the uv index can get pretty high but most playgrounds don't have that many shade options. I go back and forth on whether to add another potential fight to school mornings so I'd love to hear your thoughts!

my favorite hat for my 21 month old is from solbari. we have it in two colors, two pieces each. we started wearing hats as soon as my son started going outside. it is what we do and that’s how he thinks about it now. +1 on modeling. i’m always wearing a hat too, especially around him. this year i got a few pairs of pants and shirts for him from coolibar. for outdoor swimming we have petit crabe full length arm and leg swim suits and matching sun swim hats. so far this year my favorite sunscreen for him is La Roche-Posay Anthelios UV Mune Dermo-Pediatrics Milk SPF50+ and Eucerin Sun Kids Sensitive Protect Gel-Cream SPF 50+. if i’m concerned reapplication might not be possible i use EucerinActinic Control SPF 100 as the “base layer”. thanks for the great video, i especially appreciate the typ on how to remove the sunscreen!

We love the Naif SPF50 sun lotion, it is mineral, fragrance free, comes in a 200ml tube and doesn't leave a white cast on his skin. Also like Bioderma's new Photoderm Pediatrics SPF50 mineral sunscreen, but this is only 50g. I personally would not opt for a chemical one, I have rosacea, so I try to avoid any irritants on my son's fair skin too. UPF50 big hat, shade and avoid sun exposure between 10-16h.

I use the formula for face too and my boys love how "not icky-sticky" it feels. I can apply a lot and it never feels gross. I have also tried the sun bum clear kids line and is also good. We are still working on sunscreen, we do “disappearing polka dots” on her exposed skin and then rub it in. I do use sticks for reapplying while we are out and tell her I’m painting her and you can only see it with special glasses. It works sometimes lol

Best to differentiate between spray and aerosol sunscreens as they are not the same thing at all. Now there will inevitably be someone who thinks there is something wrong with using their regular spray sunscreen as the base protection, which there isn't.

At this point I believe it is the parent's preference. However, under 6 months the majority of parents don't go outside for a walk. They just go out for the essentials since the majority of parents barely sleep and are exhausted because of the infant who needs to be fed all the time and sleep all the time. Of course there's always exceptions out there but rarely you will see a mother and her 3 months old baby go hiking or doing outside doors activities. Quite normal.
