I like tempo’ing my light warmups to help grease that groove and promote positioning. Great vid!
What about sumo deadlift on a skate with a saftey bar on top of my back (loaded with the same weight as the deadlift)?
Thanks for the video! For some reason paused conventional worked really well for my sumo, but paused sumo messed my form. You explanation about 2 vs 3 segments of paused pull makes perfect sense!
I've never had such a good sumo variation as low-ish sumo block pulls (about 4 inches or so). I had very bad lockout problems, just above the quads that paused sumo simply didn't fix and position error wasn't a problem. For example I had 1-day for paused and 1 day for comp sumo. Added about 30kg (compared to what I failed last block) to my sumo dl in 4 weeks of block pulling a heavy single + paused backdowns, after being stuck for a few months! However I do believe that was due to it fixing my lockout timing, which I do not know if some other variation could fix better!
For me the best one is actually super low rack pulls (plates 2 in of the ground) conventional style. Basically a SLDL with the same ROM as the sumo. It really improves hinge mechanics and translates great into my sumo. Edit: scrolled through the video to see SLDL are the last one haha
I really like snatch grip sumo stance deadlifts on 3-12 (i.e both heavy and lighter volume rep ranges)

Same. Pushing those helped me get to my first 700lb sumo deadlift.
Ill try doing paused deadlifts then controlled eccentric! will come back once I break 500 (475 current pr)
Hey Dave, couple questions on how you're approaching the SLDL: - It seems like your stance is a little wider than you've conventional deadlifted in the past. Is that just what feels comfortable for you now adays, or are you going a bit wider than you would for a regular conventional? - It looked like the footage around 20:30 was real training for you and not a demonstration. Are you going a bit lighter in terms of RPE on these than you would the other variations? Thanks! Looking forward to the conventional video

You should check out the video I linked in that section. Currently my hip is still pretty sensitive to pure hinge moments so I can’t go as heavy as I want.

Thanks! Hope the hip continues to recover
On your discussion on tempo deadlift, its mainly contained tempo down movement. However, what are your thoughts on Tempo to Knee deadlift???

@BrazosValleyStrength any chance you can expand a little?

@@saz1471no point on tempoing the concentric. You are just limiting your progress cause you are deliberately creating less power
Hey David, why do you not lockout your reps and fingertip grip them, wont this not be applicable to comp deadlifts
Hey, this with ur old video what’s has changed ? Ur old vid on another channel u recommend pause, halting, close stance sumo and block pull… I was wondering do u still think the halting deadlift is beneficial for sumo ? Cuz I’ve been doing em for a while

Honestly, it’s been five years, I don’t really remember what I said. I’m pretty confident I said block deadlifts were underrated for some people. Not that they are a top tier variation.

@@BrazosValleyStrength what do you think about Halting deadlift now in 2024? Halting deadlift is basically one and a half … leaving the floor twice

How are you not scratching your shins with these lifts?

That’s part of the point. You should not be pulling back that hard. Watch the forward banded deadlift video if you need more info.

@orthrusfury8739 I don’t think you should be pulling the bar hard into you with deadlifting ever

@@BrazosValleyStrengthfor sure. It doesn’t make sense from an efficient movement point of view. I am asking these stupid questions because I got a bacteria infection from sumo deadlifting, because it opened my shins. I will work on my technique, ty
