I'd say they're pretty solidly rated and exposed - their fanbase is diehard, you can't find a running shoe thread on FB or KZread without a billion comments from them. Just crossed 150mi on these after picking them up a few weeks ago. A true game-changer in several ways as it relates to the health of my feet. I had been dealing with 5th metatarsal issues on both feet, and these shoes have significantly reduced that pain. Side note, I picked them up based on a recommendation from a buddy who had been in Topo's well before this shoe came out. He's a 225 marathon guy @ 43yrs old and runs in these almost exclusively excepting races, so they can be a great workout or even all around shoe for any level of runner.

Had it since it was released - agree wholeheartedly w/ your review. My review on RW: Phenomenal fit for my duck-like feet, w/ a cushioned - but not sloppy soft - stable feel. I’m reasonably light at ~130 lbs., but the sidewalls, saddle-like fit, and flared midsole, I’m guessing would pretty much accommodate much larger runners. They pretty much cannibalized the Rebel upper w/ the best features of the Mach 5 to make my perfect, and long-awaited, Pebax trainer - at a reasonable price, no less. My first Topo road shoe.

Great video! Greatings from Germany
I really love my Topo Athletic Specter shoes, and use them as a daily trainer. I used to get bad planta fasciitis, but switching to the wider foot shaped shoes, allowed my toes to spread, and helped me develop a stronger arch, so can run pain free, now. I have done 1200 km in the Specters, and they are going fine, apart from some splitting in the upper, on my right foot, which is slightly bigger than my left. I think they have another month or two left in them. The idea of the Cyclone 2's looks great, a light, fast responsive shoe, without forcing any particular running mechanics on you, which the carbon plate shoes tend to do. I will be getting a pair soon. I agree a max height cushioned shoe, of the same Pebax foam, may be even better, but I am still interested in the Cyclone 2's for running parkruns as fast I can!
Topo, sending Kofuzi a test shoe is absolutely the correct thing to do. Boost that name recognition.

I don't understand why trail shoes need a squishy foam since the ground is soft. Can you explain?
I mostly wear barefoot/minimalist shoes and bought these as soon as they released. As far as I can tell, these are the first, maybe only, reasonably priced premium-foam shoes with an anatomical toe box. I used the rebel v2s and have been trying to get some of the saucony models to work for me, but they all ended up too restricting my wide feet lol. With the modest drop, wide toebox, and light weight, these things are by far my favorite "traditional" shoe :)

Ok...help me understand. The Kinvara is 31/27, so 4mm drop and literally 3mm more stack. Almost exactly what you and Ko are saying you want in the Cyclone 2. So other than Pebax, how can people say they want the Kin to remain "a flat" but still keep wanting more stack? Could it just be down to materials at this point?
@austinobrien9881
Жыл бұрын
@@michaeltanel3815 fair point! I haven’t tried the Kinvara 14 yet but definitely want to. Reviews consistently say the toe box is super narrow which is what pushes me away. The only reason I wanted more stack in the Cyclone 2 is because I’ve been using it for every type of run (speed, daily, long, etc.). However Topo likely intends this to be more of a speed shoe/racer and would probably direct me to the Specter. But yes the Pebax squishes a smidge more which makes it close to bottoming out.
Hey Mike, wondering if you can test out Topo’s Specter? Would love to get your take on that model vs the Cyclone 2. Great to see Topo getting some attention.

First time here thanks for the great video. I'm coming from the kinvara 13 which I ran my first marathon in and loved (and still love). The only downside for me is the narrow toe box. So I've tried a pair of altras (I use barefoot shoes daily so wasn't too concerned about the 0 drop), but I've not really liked them, too heavy mostly. So I'm thinking of trying this cyclone 2. Take a look at the Altra Escalante Racer. I had a pair of Kinvara 13 too but sold it, now mainly using Escalante Racer and VFF V-Run
Upgraded version of the boost would be floatride foam from Reebok in my mind. They use beaded E-TPU which is marginally lighter than traditional boost but probably not as responsive as Pebax foams. I heard of Topo before but unfortunately they don't ship to where I live. Sounds like my kind of shoe.
how would you say outsole durability will be and on wet days is the traction?
I like the older Topo shoes due to the zero drop. Hence, five pairs of Topo and eleven pairs of Altra.
I second this motion. I Love My Pair Of CYCLONE 2! My review is on the shoe site. This is a must own light weight, speedy race day or daily trainer for people who need toe room. these look absolutely amazing looks wise and spec wise. This is everything the rebel should be but better way better. I might be getting a pair. How high is the arch tho? I have tried on the phantom 2 and 3 and the Ultrafly and the arch on those shoes killed me. Im beyond surprised we don't carry these at fleet feet. but we do have the phantom and the ultrafly which tbh feel like every other shoe. As u mentioned this sound way better then the endophin pro 3 to me. similar underfoot feel but that upper on that endophin pro 3 just isn't it not sure why a uptempo/racing shoe has a regular daily trainer upper is wild.

My favorite shoe of 2023! Interesting comparisons. I don’t think they are that similar to saucony. I love this shoe. I find the EP3 too soft, unstable, and takes a lot of work to run in Vs. Other carbon racers. As for the rebel, I would agree that they are similar as you described with the rebel having that bottoming out feeling while the C2 being even better the more you hammer it. I’m considering the C2 for a half marathon in 2 weeks. If all works out, maybe a full? If you can, snag the mtn racer 3 from TOPO (don’t know when it comes out) and test on the trails. @@adamfeerst2575 - I have tried Hoka torrent on trail and they don’t have enough cushioning after 31 miles. For 50 and 100 mile races, I would rather have more cushioning to save my feet a bit

Tony from Topo here, you might check out the Ultraventure 3, or if conditions are more technical the MTN Racer 3 coming in June is my favorite, a little more stack than the 2 and a new foam compound. While we're at it, like many of you, we also think Kofuzi does really thoughtful objective reviews! The feedback we get from all of you only helps us get better.

if you have good mechanics, yes. I find it too low to the ground and too neutral for me to consider it for a marathon.
how about the insoles?...please discuss insoles on your shoe reviews...thanks

they absolutely need to produce and sell a Size 12.5 - MY SIZE (EU 47 1/3 precisely)! I was already going through online shops, ready to buy, but that's the only site they skip in their size chart 😢

@@kofuzi you might consider my suggestion that when you recommend other shoes to go with zero drop, wide toe box shoes, those other shoes be also of that design. that way your runner readers won't make the mistake of getting shoes that would be too tight or cause injuries / bunions, etc.

Only Altra and Topo shoes come with an anatomical (foot shape) toebox. Other cushioned running shoes may offer a wide variant but footshape toebox they are not.
I ran in the older topo teraventure and I loved them. They had a very simple design with forest green and black but were extremely attractive. The follow up model was so dang ugly and I couldn’t get over it. Topo makes great shoes and their designs are getting sexier but lord did they have some ugly designs in the past. Glad to see the designs are getting more gooder looking. With so many good shoes, it’s hard to purchase something that feels good but is as ugly as a 1980s RV. I ran that pair of topo teraventure into the ground. Good long lasting shoes.
Can anyone tell me if this shoe fit them well in their reg running shoe size?

Physical therapy, calf raises on the step on the towel helped me in particular. But better working with the specialist. Shoes might help running while recovering and doing excersises. Hoka might do or something like NB More, Velocity Nitro 2. Basically any shoe with less superfoam. When the foam is bouncy it gives back to the foot. Plate is a big no no.
They almost sound like the OG Pegasus turbo.

I feel that, but I generally try to avoid making comparisons to that shoe, as it seems the shoe everyone compares back to whenever they really really like a shoe

Your comparison with other shoes (that I haven't run in) wasn't helpful to me. It would be more helpful to put them on a firmness spectrum - perhaps, Fuel Cell on the squishy end and DNA Flash on the firm end - then where this and similar shoes fit on that spectrum.
