Do you think that you could give me what they call a recon style haircut, very short on the top of my head and razor shaved on the back and sides all the way up a little bit higher than the poridal ridge, all the way around my head from side to side. Do you think that you could give me a haircut like that?

The open lever acts as a half to whatever number you have on. So if you have a 1 guard on and lever is open, that’s a 1.5

Bro the title of the video doesn't lie,I watched a bunch of tutorials and they either go thru the process fast and they don't explain in detail of what they doing. Alot of them don't even show what they mean by closed/open lever. Plus they don't cut their own hair like most of us are trying to do. Plus you gave yourself a fade without 1.5 guards like alot of every day Joe's that don't have those guard's. You killed it bro.

That's so so encouraging to me because Ive been so frustrated needing and wanting to cut my own but worrying that i could never do it this professional looking. Always thought it would be too hard. I do my own already but just use one guard and take it all off one length only, cause i never felt like i could do a fade. Thanks man

    1. no guard -Close(first guideline) 2. no guard-open (second guideline) 3. #1-Open 4. #2-Open -Go STRAIGHT up like your head is a box. Erase Guidelines. TAKE YOUR TIME. Erase first guideline. 5. No Guard- Open 1/4 of the way.knock up first guideline 6. No Guard - Open 1/4 of the way. 7. No guard - Open 1/4 (should be at 3/4) Erase Top line. 8.#1 -Close to erase Top line. If it doesn't erase and you don't have a .5 guard, use clipper with no guard (all the way open) and only use corners. The very top of the fade. 9. #2-Close 10. #1-Open corner of blade to touch up.

I’ve cut my lil brothers hair in the past and this video was honestly very clear to understand and helpful for new barbers since you only use the clipper in the beginning and just 2 guards. Easy for a beginner to follow and not get discouraged their first time.

Thank you for showing/writing exactly which guard and lever positions you were using. I've watched too many DIY tutorials that are supposedly catered to those of us who don't know what we're doing, but the barbers switch guides and levers without saying or showing it, and then I get confused. Thank you for taking your time and not rushing through the video so that we can easily follow along.

Thank you for explaining properly how you knock out each individual fade line. I’ve been cutting my own hair lately & have watched other videos & I don’t think I’ve heard them describe fading the lines out like you. That’s the hardest part for me as a beginner. I do the initial guideline great, but end up making my fade lines too high. I wasn’t going up a little, then opening the blade for each guideline. I was also using the whole blade, instead of the corner to break up the lines. Luckily I’ve got a .5 guard so I’m looking forward to trying this out again. Thanks!

Since covid and everything closed i bought a good expensive clipper and also start doing my own hair. Havent seen a barber since. But alot of people couldnt believe i did it myself 😂 So that was a huge compliment. People even asked if i wanted to to their hair. Its a really cool skill to have. At first i was doing my haircut and was busy for over an hour. Now im done in 25, because my hair is longer on top and i also have to cut that. Its not always 100% clean but hey 🤷‍♂️ what can you do. This tutorual is very very accurate 👌🏾

i like that pro tip explaining the use of the corners in absence of a guard to finish off a fade. This is great stuff to learn. Just cut my hair today, straight hair Asian poofy buzz cut down to a 3 on top, 1.5 on the sides and like a .5 bottom and rear. The light is to my 2 o clock so it was kinda hard to get a sense of the lines even with a hand mirror but i made it work, in direct light it really makes the fade like not appear until you are in a darker lit room. Anyways, great video you put toghether explaining stuff

Had to make some small adjustments here n there to get my hair the way I like it. But I am slowly getting there. My last haircut was the best one so far. Looked almost professional. Thank for making this possible, here in Nigeria (Africa) you hardly see clippers with the 0.5 & 1.5 guard. So the lines created at clipper open and 1 guard close are most often not taken out completely. This will help me a lot next time in the shop when giving a haircut. Almost done with my barber apprenticeship relationship with my master. Once again thank you for this.

Wow awesome video man . Out of all the self haircut videos I've seen you explain it the best. Started cutting my own hair a few weeks ago since the barber shops are closed. You give me more confidence to continue to do it myself. Subscribed! 👍

Loved this guide man! Been tryna find a guide that doesn't use half guards as most kits don't come with them. You making us boys look fresh during quarantine!

Good work. Been doing this for 15+ years. Even cut my own hair for my wedding day. Getting to that point wasn't easy. Many rough trims in high school. Keys to a good trim is confidence, time, two shavers one for lines the other for cutting, mirror positioning for two mirrors and lighting. Bit of music can help to determine how your hair cut will turn out too.

True about the music, helps for me. I just started cutting my own hair days ago, still kinda nervous to use the equipment but music and some hemp helps lol Did my 1st ever haircut on one of my fam members and not bad for a newbie

Video has helped out tremendously. Fading up seems much easier at least for me. Other videos used the fading down method which I find a bit harder to follow.
