The BEST RV Dog Fence

ℹ️ IN THIS EPISODE: Surprisingly, one of the most common questions we get is all about the temporary fence that we use around our rig to keep our dogs contained on our camp site. We go into all the sexy details about the fence and if we like it or don't like it.

We run a similar fencing for our German Pinschers. We have a 30" section that we have against the rig/under the steps, but use a set of 48" panels for the perimeter. One of our girls is a climber/jumper and will get out of our chain link fence at home and figured she would clear the 30" without thinking much.

WOW! We have the exact same fence system as your first one! We use eight (8) sections and three (3) of the sections have doors. The height fits perfectly under our Outback's slide and we too swapped out our steps but instead of the Morryde, I went with the Glow steps (we didn't like the issues the Morryde created). But our two little girls are not as tall as your pack so we don't need the height you need. And to pretty up the fence and stop our girls from barking at everything they see, I "zipped-tied" landscape fabric to it. Now, when I set up our table that expands to a bar table top height, it looks like something you see at a "swanky" outdoor event that you walkup and order drink at! The downsides of the fabric is that it can catch air on really windy days, it does get wet in the rain and it does require vacuuming every-so-often to keep it looking good. The fence itself is good and cheap, easy to setup and can configure to a lot of differences in terrain. Plus, it's (relatively) light. I agree with what you're saying about the convenience of allowing the puppers to go out without too much worry or harnesses at 2am! One downside to a pet fence that we found out west (ie CA and AZ); some places did not allow us to put up the fence. In CA on our Disneyland trip in 2019 we had to ask for permission to put up the fence since there was a strict "No Fence" rule. I imagine it had more to do with a legal aspect to keep snow-birders and long term campers "homesteading" from thinking they could put up a 6 foot fence if the rules were to allow fences. I really like your second fence system, looks better than the other type and much more rigid when connected! Great video again! Cheers!

  • @BrazenBrits

Hi Andrew! That’s a great idea with the fabric. That would be useful with Jax as he is OBSESSED with squirrels! We actually stayed at a park with a strict ‘no fence’ policy, but didn’t notice until we had set it all up. The next day, the camp host drove round to pick up the trash and said “nice fence. We don’t allow fences, but that looks really tidy”. I think you’re right that it’s more about the full timers putting up permanent fences 👍

Just bought the 40” of the same fence which haven’t actually used yet . Thought I would share an idea that I came up with for keeping dogs from going under trailer . I bought 2 long but narrow tarps 6’x20’ with eyelets and first thing zip tie up along frame behind stairs only requires about 4 ties per tarp ,let it hang down then flat towards your camp set up area then my two large camp rugs end to end right over tarps up against trailer . Hoping then the 16 panel set can be made larger without wasting panels along trailer My trailer is an outback 324cg 2018 model and is 38.5’ bumper too tongue. Sorry for the book and I enjoyed your video.

We have the same fences for our pack of dogs. They are stronger than the wire types and they adapt fairly well to uneven levels of ground. I have had to use chicken wire post to fortify them in uneven areas when we had winds of greater than 20 mph. Easy to put up and even easier to take down. I have a toy hauler so we strap them to the folding bench which is over the axles. Ours are 36’ high and we have two Malinois and they totally respect the fencing and have yet to knock them down.

Hi Chick-A-bee Farm. We loooooove the toyhaulers for this reason. Do you have a 5th wheel toyhauler or a travel trailer toy hauler? We have looked at both, but not spoken to anybody with a travel trailer TH. Even though they are only 30", both our dobermans have never even slightly attempted to jump over them, even though it wouldn't be difficult for them, especially as they are trained agility dogs. Obviously, Great Danes are much taller, but also similar temperament. You might find that a measly 30" might work 🙂

Hey Andrew! Agreed! Very different and we bow down to you guys for driving those. I’d love to try driving one one day to see if it’s as hard as it looks. I’ve heard that ‘Rig’ is actually a sailing term for configuring something for a particular use. We normally refer to our trailer as a trailer or RV, but if we are referring to both the truck and the trailer, we would say rig. Not sure if that’s correct or not 🤷‍♂️😁
