The BEST Reverb Settings for Mixing Vocals
Музыка
In this music tutorial I show the best reverb settings for mixing vocals. This will work in Pro Tools, Logic, FL Studio, Ableton, Cubase, Studio One, or any other DAW. I'm using the Vahalla Vintage Verb in this video, but you can use any reverb plugin. If you're a musician, producer, or audio engineer then check out my other mixing, mastering, and beat tutorials on my channel.

Best reverb tutorial =)))
Love the fact that you use engineering math and common ear sense to control the outcome of your effect settings. I subscribed to your channel. Thank you, can't wait to check your videos.
This is an amazing one to get the best settings on reverb! thanks for the good tips
This is the best video on KZread on this topic. Thumbs up to you Jerry. Thank you.
Again, very good information in an easy to understand, compact video !
Best explanation I’ve seen so far for determining decay and pre-delay time
Thank you, Jerry! You made it all very clear!👍🏻😊🌞🙏🏼
Love ur teachings,simple and straight ❤
Thank you so much for the formula. Nobody tells about this. You are really providing value to us through your videos. Big thanks brother
your video is so helpful! thank you so much
Great video thanks. Really good trick so will be using that
awesome awesome !! complete noob to protools coming from garageband and was having trouble making reverb sound good this helped a bunch
I just purchased the reverb. This video really helped me.
Total noob here. I have been struggling for two weeks to get the reverb set properly for the vocals on a song I've been working on. I've seen the concepts you covered in other videos and blog posts, but nothing as clear and no nonsense as your explanation. FINALLY, this vocal actually sounds pretty good. Thank you!
this information is pure gold
Glad I found you! Excellent tutorial.
Luckily I use Valhalla Vintage Verb so this video was perfect for me. Up to now I have just used reverb on the same channel as my vocals but this video really explains the advantage of having a separate reverb channel. I will now adjust the Decay and Predelay now like you have shown. Thank you so much!
This video was so useful, just earned another sub
Great video Jerry!!! thank you
Love the mathematical approach!
man, thank you for this....appreciate it
I was mixing my new tag and was having trouble with the decay in the reverb (same reverb you used in this video). This video was very helpful. Thank you ‼️👌🏾🔥
Finally I found a helpfull reverb vid! Thanks.
Great explanation and straightforward using the calculator. Thanks my friend !
Really best tutorial
Dope video … super informative
loved your video thnx!
Thanks bro,after some years working,mixing definitely i found the right answer 😂 thanks and i wish you all the best!
Excellent tutorial, I consider myself seasoned and went by ear and used buses, but this had me writing notes😊 thanks for the spreading knowledge!
Wow 😯 thank you bro 😎 I just learned an important lesson
great idea to make an eq pocket for the vocals, I do that with piano as it is lots of the same frequency as the vocals. Herbie Hancock said he prefers the Rhodes piano with vocals as it is pretty scooped in the tone and allows the vocals to pop.
Great one my guy
Thank you, Nicely done! I think I get the general idea to use it on radio applications. I wish I was a musician but I had no clue about the meaning of notes and half notes.
it helps me a lot!
Great video!
Bro you a 🐐🔥
Yo Jerry....I've learned so much from you bro. Good lookiin'out. Peace & Blessings!

You technicz will just kill me one day😂😂😂
Really helpful, straightforward tutorial. Thanks very much. The example you chose made it really clear what each change effected in the mix. Do you generally send 100% of the vocal to the reverb channel? And is it truly a "copy" as you mentioned, or is it actually just re-routing the signal based on how much you send?
@mixwithjerry
Жыл бұрын
Yes I usually send 100% of the vocal to the reverb and control the level of it with the volume fader… but this is only because I’m usually sending one vocal to that reverb. If I was sending multiple things to that reverb then I would have to control how much I’m sending to each one. I think of it as a true copy of the signal since I’m sending 100% of the vocal out.
Can this also be done in the kirchhoff plugins? So useful this technique. Just came across the best video on vocal production by a producer named Nick Mavromatis and I realised how it’s not all about mixing. His production on vocals is just INSANE. You should the vocal production episode in particular.
Would you do anything differently with stacked background vocals? Would you add reverb to all of the stacks or no?
🙏🏾🙏🏾
Great tutorial... now I have a better understanding about Pre-Delay and Decay. Thank you very much. However, I have a questions... I have Behringer FX2000 unit that has pre-delay, decay, with Treble and Bass level settings. If I were to do a highpass on that, should I just lower the bass to a minus -10 to cut out all the low and treble to -4 to cut off the high freq? Thanks
@mixwithjerry
Жыл бұрын
I’m not familiar with that unit but I’d imagine that the bass and treble controls are actually shelf curves instead of filters, but yeah you can just decrease though maybe to get less lows and highs.
Can you do a tutorial on how to make the mixed vocals fit better with the beat? You explain stuff so good!

@@prodby7anaka I appreciate that.. I’ve sang my whole life and feel like I’ve kinda found and developed my voice over time.. but when I record I go line by line until I get the take that I love and then I move on.. so the whole song is really a bunch of different takes pieced together

EQ (hi pass at about 80hz, small boost at 100hz, dips at 200, 500, 1000, and 4000hz to remove resonance). Compressor (6-10db of gain reduction). Pultec EQ(boosting the high end), De-Esser
how is your bassfreq at 7880hz? mine only goes to 2000hz
can i use valhalla on Adobe Audition ?

Good video on the Eq settings that the Abbey Road Effect to for those who want to want a tutorial on the Eq Effect
Dope bruh...But there's an Eq on the reverb plugin itself...
@mixwithjerry

Yeah most reverbs will have the low and high cuts offered, but not an option to take out any of the midrange. I wanted to give a visual representation of what I was doing with the EQ for those who may not have a reverb plugin with an EQ section on it.

Valhala plugin already offers built-in EQ, so I guess you didn't need to add another EQ plugin after it, right?

@@mixwithjerryamn that was fast. Thank you very much! Reverb is worth a study :D. So hard to seperate the main Vocals from the backings with reverb
But this Reverb doesn't have a dry - wet nob then how we can cancel the volume of the dry vocal which is coming from the send track?
@mixwithjerry

The plug-in has a mix knob that acts as a wet/dry control. Just make sure to have that on 100%.

Why all the math, on super massive Valhalla they have the time based options, 1/4 ect as not just the milli seconds. Those take the math out of it right ?
A bit too mathematical approach for my taste. At first, when you calculate your decay time like shown, then you have to include pre delay. Second the decay time doesn't represent the exact time, a reverb is hearable. It mostly depends on the type of reverb you're using. And at last, reverb is a sound shaping tool, so for me it depends on the mood of the song, the singers pronunciation etc. and not all music is quantized (at last I hope so). And not all songs should sound the same. The danger in tutorials like this is, that beginners get stuck to this method and stop trying things, that may suit the song better.
how can you apply this with live band?
@mixwithjerry
Жыл бұрын
It would be tough to do it on the spot. I’d suggest starting with a reverb time of 1.5s and adjust it by ear as necessary for each song.

I always struggle with which reverb to choose for vocals. It's the one effect that has just sooo much variety - Halls, plates, short room, long room and on and on and on... If anyone has a simple formula, ex: short plate for chorus, hall for verse, or whatever, please chime in!
