Guys I made a big mistake at 17:13 where I’m speaking about isreal Adesanya but because I edited out the part where I say his name, it makes it seem like I’m talking about pereira. I was saying that “the reason I don’t have isreal Adesanya as my kickboxing representative is because… etc” I hate that there was a bad edit on my part my bad

Oliveira's jiu-jitsu is amazing but I think his offense heavily outweighs his defense. From a defensive grappling perspective he often puts himself in bad positions that get him finished whereas other guys like Burns don't do that as much.

I’d say Demian Maia is the best overall representation of jiu jitsu in mma. Has incredible calculated offence that burns lacks, while also having good defence which Charles lacks. While Charles has more submissions overall, Maia clearly has the better more technical jiu jitsu and also has more credentials as well. Also just to add Burns was scared of old man Maia on the ground and was scrambling desperately to his feet in their fight (before getting up and knocking him out of course😂).

Yeah, I'd go with Maia, Rockhold, or Jacare. Jacare/Rockhold are probly the best top players among them, but Maia is very, very close to them in that regard even if his gnp isn't as scare as Luke's and his immediate sub threat isn't as great as Jacare's. He's a much more tested defensive grappler than Jacare as well tho not so much with Rockhold Oliveira is awesome, but he's a lot more of a wildman than those guys.

I also think kyokushin Karate in terms of a singular style of Karate that is MMA ready with minimal tweakage is a complete striking discipline. The punching is strictly body shots, and they are masterful body punches because of it. But, they also are phenomenal at straight punches as well as alternatives to traditional "circular" punching from boxing (hooks/uppercuts) with more arching longer range variations of said punches. That being said, the application of straight punches and long arch punches to the face and head is seamless. They also have Leg kicks. It's a style of fighting that's like fighting in a phone booth, but they also have in and out tactics as well. Known for having a squared stance, but also uses a bladed stance at times. Known for a high guard for kicking defense and using elbows to block body shots. The most hard and diverse striking discipline. MMA Kyokushin Black Belts: Georges Rush St Pierre Bas Rutten Uriah Hall Just to name a few. I've always wanted to see someone with a black belt in both Kyokushin and Judo in MMA, as both styles originate from Japan and would create a well rounded fighter.

I'd argue that Jose Aldo is a better representative of kickboxing in MMA. His striking style is more reminiscent of traditional Dutch Kickboxing techniques and that combined with his legendary anti-wrestling represented a better display of kickboxing in an MMA context skill-for-skill. I think this is further illustrated by the fact that Islam Mackachev's takedown threat gave him more success on the feet versus an exceptionally better striker in Alexander Volkanovski whereas Aldo's striking didn't lose its efficacy against wrestleboxers.

Cung Le is one of the most technical strikers to compete in probably any kind of fighting competition ever, and he practiced Sanda, also known as Sanshou, which is a kickboxing-like martial art derived from Kung Fu. It features punches leg:body kicks similar to European Kickboxing, mixed in with more technical high kicks often seen in arts like Taekwondo and King Fu, such as side kicks, hook kicks and spinning kicks. It also allows takedowns and throws. It’s a really cool martial art. I’d look him up if you’re looking for good examples of Kung Fu-derived fighting systems in MMA.

With judo: We actually see a ton of techniques used effectively in mma, people just don't have an eye for it. all these foot sweeps, tai o toshi, harai goshi or I even saw ippon seio nage are all techniques that are very common in mma (except for ippon seio nage) and are techniques typically seen in judo. Besides these throws. Where do you think do these bjj practicioners got their techniques from? Like hadaka jime (rear naked choke), sankaku jime (triangle choke but in Judo usually not used in the same position as we usually see in mma competitions), ude garami/gyaku ude garami (kimura) etc. When these fighters pull out a technique like that, did they do bjj or rather judo? Or maybe neither, maybe it was Japanese Jiu Jitsu all along or Luta Livre etc.... I mean, no one had a gi on so it was probably luta livre or maybe CCAC....right?? My point is there are many judo techniques used in a mma setting but people usually classify them as something else...usually bjj technique.

You do realise that the only reason Islam was competitive on the feet with Volk is because Volk had to worry about the takedown. Same thing when Conor faced Khabib. If it was a pure kickboxing match, Khabib and Islam would have had no chance. Having said that, I agree that we shouldn't take anything away from Izzy and that he is probably the best example of a kickboxer. I mean, with all of his success he only got his first takedown ever against Peirera- that's how far his striking alone has taken him.

Whittaker shames the guys Izzy takes to boring close decisions. And Izzy just got the breaks beat off him, how are you gonna crown him like that?

@@nothingwsthesame Yeah you weren't watching the fight. That or you just can't tell what was going on. Round 1 Izzy is getting cleanly out pointed, lands two punches that steal the round. Round 2 Pereira comes back and cleanly out points him, lands a takedown too at the end just to cement dominance. Round 3 Pereira is having success on the feet, they get into a clinch and Pereira tries to trip him, ends up losing the top position in the scramble, gets control timed and gassed from numerous stand up attempts and such. Round 4 Pereira's output is slashed, Adesanya wins off activity. Round 5 Pereira comes back with the aggression and wins. Also the fact that you throw in "and a half" is fucking crazy, Adesanya was trying to coast round 5 and did fucking nothing the whole round besides getting his kicks checked and running away.
