i don't understand why @9:45 you said that using the photographic exposure "takes so long to render"? It's just a tone mapping method applied after the render, it shouldn't increase render times. Personally I used it all the time and I really like how it softens the highlight

watch out because aces ocio is totally incorrect without acescg conversion, textures and colors will be colorshifted and distorted.

My biggest issue with octane wasn’t ever the speed or color, what made me switch was that everything in octane was such a hacky workaround for some of the most basic stuff that should work. And every time you go in the forum it’s like ONE dude trying to do everything himself. Admittedly he IS superhuman but redshift has better caustics and material blending. And support. I think octane are focusing more on vr it seems to me.

  • @coccosoids

When and what? Because octane is still developed, just like redshift (the latter which has slowed down a lot on that front)

@@coccosoids I just remember a lot of issues with xparticles not playing nice, and things with translucent material, layers and stuff. Dont get me wrong I love octane still, and Im sure its improved a lot since I een last used it, scatter and such is some of the best. But not many users need both RS and Octane do they.

getting more vibrant colors doesn’t make them look “better”. what you should really try to achieve - to match two pictures from different renders as close as possible

@@hussamshaaban3722 With Redshift you have to write a email to the sales team, and ask for a student licens. And i actually think Octane shutdown the student program, but write to them regardless. The last option is maybe to look at 3Delight, where you can get a free version and some render credits, for a start.
