We reviewed this bike when it was first released and at the time I was not old enough to have my full motorcycle licence. Now that I do I wanted to give it a go and see how it compares to the Japanese alternatives.
In this review I discuss how usable the bike is for every day riding and whether it could be the most or one of the most usable bikes in its category. I also discuss the handling, stopping power, engine, performance and more...

Hey, thanks for the review. Some others might have pointed out already, the Trident 660 also has "slip and assist clutch" like the Honda CB650R (4:50). Quote from the Triumph official product page: "Its smooth slick 6-speed gearbox has been optimised for fun and rideability, while the slip and assist clutch provides a light action clutch..." Cheers

I bought a Trident in 2022 as a commuter coz I wanted to keep my Street Triple RS for fun and the weekends (so much so that I bought the latest RS last March and love it), I tried the MT-07 and Z650RS but by far preferred the Trident as the Kawasaki in particular alrhough nice looking was gutless and 15 BHP down on the Trident and the MT-07 was fun but has poor handling, I've also tested the Hornet and GSX8-S since their release and like the Suzuki though it is quite a lot heavier than the Trident (14kg) but IMO the little Trident is the best naked middleweight with its do it all nature and that underlying sporty character.

Just watched a review of the Ducati Diavel by the MF which has exactly the same styling and both bikes look awful from the rear three quarter angle. There is virtually no weather protection from the rear wheel that will cover the rider in filth on anything but the driest day, which is most of the time in the UK. I want the rear wheel to look like it is part of the bike and I don’t want the seat to be floating in mid air and disconnected from the frame of the bike.

Did you notice the strange throttle response? Seems to have a laggy response to inputs, meaning you can't blip it without a slight delay? I test rode one and couldn't get past that.

triumph have deliberately made that to keep it as beginner friendly bike, ETV (electronic throttle valve) can be adjusted and the lag can be rid, I have done it on mine, check out the short video.

For me the benchmark is 100hp and this bike falls just short of that. I know you will say it has enough power, and while I agee, I want that extra bit.....BUT no more! There's a big difference between 80hp and 100hp and if this bike had that extra 20hp, it would be perfect!

Thank you for a nice, personal review. All this bike needs are a set of real fenders. That rear abomination is just 'tarded and nigh on useless. It looks fine, much better than any of the bug-fugly KTM "standards". Speaking of standards...I can NOT abide the term "naked" being used to describe what should be called a "STANDARD" style motorcycle. I know where the use of "naked" came from, the childish and mind-numbingly priapic magazine morons who coined it because touring rigs were called "full dress" or "dressers" so they thought with their privates and said, "naked". FTN. Keep putting the great in Great Britain, lad! Well done on this review! SS

Still good ? What ? "A couple of years" ? This thing is brand new ! 660 came out january 2021, which would date the earliest available batch 3 years to the month from your review, even then only if post-covid production could cover your local dealers demand fast enough. 3 years for any new model is the time needed to cure first childhood illnesses. I´ve had way faster sports bikes collect dust in the corner for longer, dude. Its not like they got wrinkles from waiting.

The special part you're getting here is the sound of the triple in a category dominated by parallel twins. I think it's an attractive, reserved design that doesn't take risks. I'll definitely admit other 650ish bikes have more direct styling, but in its class I believe it's the only 3 cylinder. I personally love the sound, and for me part of the reason of getting a specific bike is it sounds good

@@tyranid05 I’d go 675 street triple or second hand Daytona (if looking for a sportsbike) for a 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder cbr650r or cb650. The few people I know who have bought the trident have it restricted for a A2 licence or are bored with it after 12 months. Completely agree with you on the triple tho. I had a Daytona 675 with arrows exhaust and a brilliant bike. See what triumph do with the new Daytona 660 when launched.

The Trident came out a few years ago to great fanfare but disappeared completely off the radar. Ditto the adventure and other mode of same engine. Meanwhile Suzuki came from obscurity and blew everything away. Must be quality or engine gremlins in the Triumph Trident as I never hear anything about them nor see them.
