The most important thing that he mentions, in my very humble opinion, is not getting discouraged, for real. You're gonna lose a LOT of battles, it's just Treasure and Supplies, that you have to gather EVERY. DAMN. TIME. Lol. Just enjoy the experience, don't get too caught up in wins and losses. The Sea, She be a finicky mistress..... Arrrr.

This game is Amazing! And scary haha. Just sold my loot from a fortress and was celebrating with a chanty. All of the sudden a stranger stood next to me. I was like ohoh and played on and the fellow pirate played with me 😂 when sailing away he shouted: good bye friend. Thank god it didn't turn into a fight haha there where two of them 😂 and just getting used to the sloop.

just keep going. i know from my experience, SOT is very overwhelming at first but u will eventually get a good grasp of what is happening within 30-50 hours, depending how fast u learn :>

I just started 3 days ago and so far open crew has been about half friendlies and half griefers, which is a much better percentage than i was expecting. But I learned on my first day that you can grief your own crew by throwing the exploding and fire cannonballs at them. Someone on my sloop with a TTV tag started lighting me and my ship on fire, thats when I figured out what he was throwing and sent his soul to the ferryman instead. I hope if he was streaming all his viewers saw how he lost a 1v1 to a first time player that he started attacking first and stopped watching him. Any way to hide these cannonballs somewhere on the ship? A lot of griefers first move after they spawn is to go for these griefing fireballs

Imprtant for the new players is that knowing the information wont make you a pro. You will sink, you will loose and some toxic sweat will curse you and your bloodline out. The most important skill in sot is not giving up, not stoping. Youll understand and learn with time and youll become stronger then many that yopu encounter. And even then you still can loose and sink but thats just part of the game.

Fun tip, if you really wanna get good at not dying, get good at taking other peoples ships, nobody expects that crap, for you to just roll up, crash into em, kill the crew, and just sail their ship away. They don't know how to handle it.

@@Alman23 Nah I sink people all the time, especially in hourglass where if the ship gets too into the shroud it implodes. But you can just scrape it against a rock and wait while they sink, or yk, take the ship to mermaids hideaway and beach em so they have to wait the 10 minute failsafe timer, yk if you're feeling toxic

on cooking ignore all the colour stuff and just listen to sound when the pan starts bubbling and spitting oil sound the food is cooked to perfection on every item. its very distinct sound

This is a really great video and even gave me some new perspectives and strategies. I will add though that bone callers are great for if you think someone is tucking because they'll actively seek them out. And as a PC player, I can confirm the game is really frustrating at times. I've got 800 hours and have been pvping for at least 650 of those and it's still not unusual for any ship to steamroll me and my crew. Every sink can be frustrating, but it's always a learning experience, getting better takes a lot of time but it's fun the whole way. And always be open to making friends! My best friends are guys that took turns with me or my crew sinking each other, and eventually we just team up. SoT is a great game that'll give you tons of memories.

Vet tip. Use R3 (right stick) as a key bind as well! I use it for food so i can quickly heal during battle without needing to move my thumb :)

used to play sea of thieves about 4 years ago, loved the game. I played on console and I really suck at console, so me and my friends would lose our loot a lot, but i really love the game. I got it on steam a couple hours ago and have been messing around with settings and all my old cosmetics, this video is really helpful considering I can control my aim and movement so much better now, thank you.

im a player from 6 years and didnt even know some of these, thanks for the tips, great video, the only thing i want to mention is you dont need to die 6 times to start FOTD now, there is a skull you can get if you are a pirate legend (rep lvl 50 in 3 different catagories)

For keybinds I would recommend switching jump to rb (r1) so you can jump without putting your finger of the stick and maybe put food on A because you can access food quicker on a then on d pad

I don't have it on Xbox, but I could have gotten it for it but I waited to get it on PC to play with friends that just got it on PS5. The fact there's more players in the game should be a good thing.

This sounds crazy but this is the one game i wanted an xbox series s for. Already have a 360 with all the good halos and gears of war games, but the ps5 has been so good for me but this game looks so fun! Last good pirate game i played was AC4 and that was 11 years ago 😂

It’s a trade off I think. Less players also means less other people to keep pvpers in check. So you become one of their only targets.

As a new beginner on ps5, i really needed this video. Thank you, sm, bro. I've some questions, 1. Which missions should I do first to earn gold or which missions are the best for beginners. As someone whose played this game for years on end, I want all the new pirates to know that you WILL be sunk. You will lose HUGE loot hauls, miss exciting events, and you will get cursed out. However, don't let this deter you from enjoying the game. Have fun in your way, even if others will sink you for it. Good luck on the seas, Swabbies!

Definitely finding this to be the case, but this is the first non-battlefield, diablo or racing game I've picked up in quite awhile so I wasn't expecting to be good at it immediately. Still having a blast learning a new game.

One huge tip I’d advise new players or any controller players to do is: Put main interact button from X or Square to LB(R1) so when you’re trying to board or hit ladders you don’t have to take your thumb off the camera stick cause I’ve missed so many times before I did that. Then, assign your wood planks, food, throwables to right, left, and up on the D pad and bucket to click right stick. This makes it so you don’t have to open the item wheel every time you need to repair or bucket out water from your ship. You could try your own binds, but you get the idea. One thing this kind of makes wonky is the chat wheel, since I hardly use it I put it to X so you hold X and then have to find a way to move the selector to whichever one you want with your left thumb on the right stick. I feel there’s a reason I couldn’t bind it different but can’t remember.

@@darkknight-xm5cj you shouldn’t need a reload button since they always reload when done shooting. And then for some of the other options like selecting more or whatever in the quest wheel, I have click left stick. It took some time to map certain things cause yea it will change things a bit. But I got it and it works for me. I’d have to look at them all and leave a list if I remember next time. I’d just start with LB for your interact button and then work from there. You’ll figure it out! It helps a ton for grabbing onto boats you other wise would miss if you had to turn your camera and try and press X as well. Picking things up too cause you just look at it and hold LB as soon as that buffer wheel starts going you can turn away and start walking the other way and he’ll still pick it up.

Few more tips: Regular Gold Skeles can be killed with 1 Firebomb, so group em up and chuck one in there. Captains take 2 maybe 3. I also want to clarify you have to actually Raise your Lantern (Left Trigger or whatever you guys use) to weaken Shadow Skeles. When the Kraken does the Vacuum thing you can go into the Hull of your ship to prevent being pulled. Throwing a Firebomb on the deck of a Skele ship is pretty effective, especially if you can get it on the Cannon. On the Sloop, if you cant catch wind at any angle, you want to set your Sails to the Default position. The Sloop is actually the fastest ship on the server against wind. The new Horn of Fair Winds has kind of changed that though.

New PS five player playing in the beta here was playing last night. Got glitched by a Skelly got all my loot to a Robo got visual of the outpost and the server crashed.

Skeleton balls can also be thrown onto your own ship to help defend when boarded

I do wish they would put a recenter option on the map that would snap back to your ship after scrolling around the map.

My friends and I have been really enjoing the game except for tbe pvp. Its not like we think its bad necessarily, but its so diffrent than most of the other game we play that we haven't figured it out and keep dying anytime we try to be proper pirates and get into a ship fight. Im hoping thisll help out thanks!

Enjoyed the beta alot, purchased a sloop and brig and got order of souls to 31 xD About the crossplay thing, PS5 will also be able to turn off crossplay and play playstation only servers so you wont have to play with experienced xbox players either until your ready!

Pro tip: while fighting the kraken, if your entire crew is below deck, the kraken will not follow you. So, you can focus on patching holes and getting out of the danger zone. Risky to do if there are other players nearby obviously.

The ballast ball doesn't actually do much against a brig because it only has one deck all holes are always below the water

Do you lose everything you collected when you leave the game like ammos and foods that you put in your barrel ??

What is the song at 26:16 it sounds nostalgic and familiar…

Also empty all of your storage crates in the respective barrels, especially if running a sloop. Nothing more annoying than being boarded and having all your cannonballs thrown into the water. Keep them in the main barrel if you can.
