You probably over leveling because you didn't use Geodude/Golem a female one to be good counter to favorite gym leader in gen 2 Whitney 2 can play the roll out have and mine is better because it's stab Rip to all the Team rocket Zubat/Golbat that got destroyed by this strat by the way Geodude line can destroy the 4early Gym if your following the normal route technically The Jasmine gym to but be careful with Steelix I just Use Alakazam to sweep Jasmine and the to last gym can also be sweep by Alakazam wit elemental punch you don't even need to run recover I just run all the elemental punches the other team members is mostly for Hm usage and preparation for Red or for capturing the roaming Legendary

I thought your gen 1 team was absolutely perfect, but not using geodude in gen 2 is just inexplicable lol I'll also say, I think gen 2 is a rare instance where ditching your starter is actually optimal. Geodude should be your real starter. I actually like to run through the beginning of the game with Geodude and Butterfree before adding Abra, but Caterpie isn't available in Crystal so I'd say roll with Geodude + Spearow instead for the earlygame. Chikorita is convenient because it takes out water and rock/ground types and you don't have to worry about not being able to get Mareep in Crystal, but a Bellsprout is...passable. Abra breaks the rest of the game basically, but I also like to add MUSCLE the Machop from the in-game trade to make Whitney even more trivial. I do think Lanturn is the best in-game water type because of its electric dual typing, so you definitely nailed that. So something like Golem, Fearow, Meganium, Alakazam/Jynx, Machamp, Lanturn would be the best team imo probably. If you can't do trade evos I still think Machoke and Kadabra are perfectly fine, although part of me wants to keep Graveler til you get the Earthquake TM, then swap it out for a Nidoran♂ and train that up in Victory Road so you can have a STAB EQ Nidoking for the E4. But that seems like a lot of investment when you literally already have a high leveled Graveler at that point lol.

Waterstones and other elemental stones are available before you head to Kanto. There’s Fisherman Tully in Route 42 who will call you occasionally to tell you that he has an item to give you and it’s a waterstone. The rest of the elemental stones are also given by other trainers in different routes in Johto, you just need to take their contact number.

There were definitely a few picks I wasn't expecting, such as Crobat and Lanturn (I never realized Feraligatr doesn't get waterfall in gen2, that feels so weird), but the Alakazam, Feraligatr and Snorlax are all pretty hard to go wrong with. Honestly, Gator and Alakazam are kind of a dynamic duo that can handle much of what the game throws at you pretty easily, and anyone who knows anything about gen2 knows Snorlax needs no introduction

Feraligatr is definatley my fav out the 3 starters. He reminds me of Godzilla from the 98 movie. Id have his move set as surf, rain dance, ice punch and earthquake. Id have the red gyarados as my 2bd water type for waterfall and whirlpool, maybe dragon breath as 3rd attack and 4th am not sure For the 3rd id have a strong fighting type. The female machop you can use against whitneys miltank and i would use this for the moves strength and rock smash, the other 2 moves im not sure cross chop and one of the elemental punches such as thunderpunch 4th id have maybe a strong electric type like mareep who will become ampharos, i can use this for the hm flash, with a strong thunderpunch, thunderwave, 4th slot ? 5th for a flier id probably go fearow or pidgeot 6th a strong psychic like the kadabra thats in the video with psybeam(more pp than psychic) recover, fire punch, ice punch

Here's a tip on how to battle the first gym at exactly level 8 level cap first level up Totodile to 7 to learn rage then battle the rival I didn't equip the berry but I recommend equip it after the battle you should be level 8 next is to capture a Geodude a female is recommended for you know who in the 3rd gym also try to avoid or run to grass encounter fighting the random trainers is fine your Geodude will be level 7or8 use it to beat all the trainer on the first gym it should reach leve l11 if you are not playing the level cap run A level 11Geodude can destroy Falkner with Rock throw but if your battling the gym leader with level cap rule the level 8Totodile Equip with berry will do just fine with Rage see you don't need to over level you just need to properly Annalise your starter and build a team that can Support them and also remember sometimes the best Pokemon in the game is not the best option for a best team maybe I'm just good at level managing since since I entered the league with all my Pokemon at level 35 to 40 and you will know that you build not best team if one of your Pokemon is above level 40 when you reach the league and also if you do The Karen test if you need more than one Pokemon to beat her Umbreon its not a best team since one of the qualifications of the best team is you should be able 😁 to beat the trainer Pokemon 1v1

I picked all of them to be extra cautious and save pp. However to be honest i needed only 2, one to tank (slowbro) and drop the opponent accuracy with flash and scizor to set up and sweep. Once scizor has done his set up, nothing, even Red can't stop him. This is only an in-game team. No player will let you drop accuracy and max set up to be swept. If only going for gen 2 mon's, and without using version restricted mon's, then this would be my team: 1. Feraligatr or Typhlosion (I DO NOT like chikorita line) 2. Crobat 3. Heracross 4. Espeon 5. Sudowoodo or Miltank 6. Lanturn (Regardless of starter pick) I love feraligatr but Typhlosion would also be nice. Crobat gives a strong flyer. Heracross is a strong bug/fighter. Espeon serves as my go to psychic. I think Sudowoodo is better as a rock user/physical wall but Miltank could also be good. Lanturn gives electric attacks and helps covering water HM's. The only problem is that we have 2 hapiness evolution, which means we may need to prioritize evolving Eevee first before Golbat using haircuts, grooming, vitamins.

@@pokerebels I do think it is stupid that this game has THREE water HM's that you need more or less for the game, where 1 of them is bad in combat and the other is just a worse version of Surf. They could have made it so you need a key item for whirlpool, and atleast give waterfall some unqiue combat ability to set it apart from Surf if keeping it as an HM. Also some water mon's can't learn all 3. As it is, you kinda need 2 water pokemon to cover them all, or be stuck with a bad movepool on one water mon. It is bad design in my opinion... Surf is good as HM since it's your go to damage move too, but the other 2 are completely unecessary in combat.

With Fearow I may disagree since you can get the gift Spearow who levels up insanely quick and gets Drill Peck. Doesn't rely on Friendship to get good. So for in-game I think Fearow surpasses Crobat. I prefer Fury Cutter against Whitney since you don't rely on getting hit at all to boost your move. Otherwise I agree with the choices. Johto may have limited amounts of new Pokemon to select for the ingame run, but the selection of good Pokemon is surprisingly good for back then. I mean you know you screwed if Dialga, Giratina and Palkia in Sinnoh are barely useful for an ingame run and you need Infernape, Staraptor and Bidoof to not feel like everything you have is bad.

@@pokerebels here is a recommendation use Nidoking as your ground type an name it Giovanni since they kinda look alike and it's his ace monster you won't get board in fact you will be laughing 😂🤣 all the way since it's really ironic that it will destroy with elemental punch and double kick and trash earthquake is optional since you have to trade it to have it early game but it's my recommendation for you to avoid the snooze fest you encounter but seriously speaking my Golem destroy them easily with roll out some rocket Grunt star with Zubat or all the 3 is Zubat if anyone survive they will be hit with Rock Smash for Ratata or Dig/Magnitude for Magnamite Gloom is kinda scary but a Golem equip with with quick claw but I can out speed it anyway since you will absorb some speed stats of the Ratata and Zubat and your level will be always higher by the way there is still no EV training in gen 2 it's still using the gen1 mechanics that's absorb a little amount of all the stats of the Pokemon you beat since I'm taking that into consideration I usually use Alakazam to beat Gloom since it has good special by the way all you need to destroy the Johto and Kanto Gym is Alakazam and Golem the other team members are mostly for Red fight and HM and TM utility😁

By the way there is a hint that you're not using the best team when you're over leveling your starter to beat the Gym your forgetting it's best team not best Pokemon of their type and your team should support the starter Zubat is good in Cyndaquil best team while Spearow is good in the Totodile and Chikorita team while choosing a Post game Pokemon like Snorlax is really bad since the hardest part of the game is the in beginning and the post game is easy but I can't blame you if you got tempted to use the beat Pokemon in gen2 competitive Snorlax if you looking for substitute for or the six member The best option is Umbreon since it fulfill the requirements for a good wall my favorite set up is bite/ headbutt,Swift/Snore, Shadow ball/Rest, and Confuse Ray/Toxic Steelix is Also good since you can easily get it By trade evolving since you can obtain metal coat easily by trading Magneton from yellow to gold of if you want an all-rounder Nidoking and Nidoqueen is easy to get since it's the easiest evolution stone to find and don't worry to much if you will have many Ground types in your team since Ground types are the most dominant type in gen2 not to mention they are dual types😉

THAT part - its a team - a joint effort - instead of having a Lv 50 main with a bunch of level 7s

@@pokerebels By the way Totodile is the only starter that can fight the 1st gym leader without over leveling since I'm by the you can achieve this by using a Female Geodude if you don't avoid the random trainers Geodude will be level 8 to 9 and after beating the trainer it will be level 11 and learn the move Rock throw you can beat the 1st gymleader using it but if you remember correctly Totodile is level 8 the Rage trick is really useful on beating the first gym if you want to beat the first gym with the level cap rules being apply 🤩

I'm sorry but the Zubat is HORRIBLE. This entire team is horrible. in fact. Personally, I'd suggest the starter (Cyndaquil or Totodile), Espeon, Heracross, Skarmory, Ampharos, and Quagsire/shiny Gyarados.
