Somebody told me that the weather there is very harsh. The winter is 6 to 7 months. Is that true?

That’s a great question! I think it really depends on where you’re moving from. Our average temperatures between December & February average just below 0C. We are currently experiencing a “Chinook” where warm winds blow off the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains… giving us temperatures that range from 0C all the way up to 7-10C. Those happen fairly frequently, making the winter much. more bearable. Add to that the fact that Calgary is the sunniest city in Canada, makes winter a lot better. Hope that helps.

That's not entirely true. Born and raised Calgarian and winter DOES last 7 months, and the average temp in Dec to Feb is absolutely much lower than 0 degrees. Try -35 with the wind chill for days on end. Chinooks do happen, and they are heavenly, but they are much less predictable than they used to be. Also, many people are affected by the pressure change that chinooks bring and can cause painful headaches and flu-like symptoms. And don't expect those lovely spring buds that you get in Van in late February, your garden is covered in crusted ice and brown muck until at least May and even then you'll probably get a few last minute snowstorms before any spring reprieve.
