The Vanwall Vandervell 680 LMH is the best sounding Hypercar to some and a fan favourite underdog, with it's non-hybrid unrestricted LMP2 derived 4.5L Gibson GL458 V8, putting out around 670 to 700hp, and it's safe to say the Vanwall team have had a particularly interesting journey to get this car out and racing. Initially designed with the Gibson V8, only for it to be abandoned due to Aston Martin's involvement with the regulations, before Aston left and the Gibson V8 was brought back, it was initially ready for 2022 before failing the homologation process! Finally in 2023 they gained entry from the ACO and FIA, and the car had a promising start at Sebring at the beginning of season, at least in terms of reliability, but sadly has struggled since to finish a race and the 2023 24 hours of Le Mans was no exception. The searing heat caused a lack of power for the car all week long, being much better suited to the cooler night time running. During the race it found itself struggling in the humid air again, and fell into a gravel trap 7 hours in, before the engine sadly gave up 8 hours from the finish on Sunday morning. This video is a little short due to the irregular nature in which the car would appear in front of you. Hopefully Vanwall come back next year with those overheating issues resolved as it is yet another unique sound from these new Le Mans hypercars!
