Can't argue with you there, Armstrong is one of the best villains in the Metal Gear series. It's a shame he had to be killed off and that Konami left, Armstrong could've made more appearances.

Y'know he has a point. Through sheer willpower alone Raiden overcame the odds and ascended from lowly kid to cyber god pretty much. Even had a family he loved and loved him.

I like the fact that they left Armstrong's plans purposely vague so that way you can loosely see it going either good or bad if he had his way. But at the core of it, he's the ultimate idealist, willing to die and kill for a higher purpose. Which is something that while we've been conditioned to interpret for evil, it is challenged directly by being juxtaposed to the the current alternative, which is essentially fighting for nothing (not understanding why we fight). When weighed against this far darker alternative, his ideals begin to make sense, which is why Metal Gear has some of the greatest writing in existence.

08:47 now I think I get it.. the last boss song(it has to be this way) is not a song for Armstrong, but rather a song for Raiden which wasnt able to see what Armstrong saw all along... they are both equals, but just one of them is able to see that.

Actually, this boss fight and the dialogue from Raiden and the robot dog shows that Armstrong's idealogy is already happening. He wanted people to fight for what they believed in, Jack was already doing that without his help. He wanted the weak to be purged, so Jack purged HIM. His ideas are just the natural state of reality, his wars and changes wouldnt have changed anything, because reality is lawless to begin with.
MGRr is technically the last metal gear in the chronological timeline. And through memes the metal gear has been immortalized despite its fall with survive. Mgs2 has been 10 years in the future.
Armstrong did nothing wrong. Raiden is just a kid that wouldn't understand.

The people who can't see how he's the bad guy need to understand the whole point of his philosophy is flawed. He believes in a system to purge the weak, but in reality everyone is weak is some way (hence the phrase nobody's perfect), and he's just creating the parameters for strength.

I think, every great or memorable villans needs a flaw to truly make him stick up from the rest. And that his Philosophy sure doesn't define what is "the Weak", so it is open for interpretation. Either way you cannot deny, that he is easy to like just by his charisma and how he explains his ideals. I just wish we had more of him in the game.
