The Best of Johann Sebastian Bach (31 March [O.S. 21 March] 1685 -- 28 July 1750)
Part II: • The Best of Bach: Part II
Bach was born in Eisenach, Saxe-Eisenach, into a great musical family; his father, Johann Ambrosius Bach, was the director of the town musicians, and all of his uncles were professional musicians. His father probably taught him to play violin and harpsichord, and his brother, Johann Christoph Bach, taught him the clavichord and exposed him to much contemporary music. Apparently at his own initiative, Bach attended St Michael's School in Lüneburg for two years. After graduating, he held several musical posts across Germany: he served as Kapellmeister (director of music) to Leopold, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen, Cantor of Thomasschule in Leipzig, and Royal Court Composer to August III. Bach's health and vision declined in 1749, and he died on 28 July 1750. Modern historians believe that his death was caused by a combination of stroke and pneumonia. Bach's abilities as an organist were highly respected throughout Europe during his lifetime, although he was not widely recognised as a great composer until a revival of interest and performances of his music in the first half of the 19th century. He is now generally regarded as one of the main composers of the Baroque period, and as one of the greatest composers of all time.

@@markmorningstar5374 I have no issue with anyone who thinks that Handel is the greatest. If I am not mistaken, Bach held Handel in such high esteem that he tried-- and failed-- to meet him twice. Western music has many peaks, of which Handel is one. I actually find it fascinating how many, whether consciously or subconsciously, associate the pinnacle of Western classical music with the pinnacle of the Baroque era, that is, Bach and Handel.

Beethoven also considered Bach to be a genius. He once wrote "Nicht Bach, sondern Meer solle er heißen" and later "wegen des unerschöpflichen Reichtums seiner Musik" Which means "Not Bach (german word for small stream), but Sea/Ocean should he be named" and later "due to the unexhaustible richness of his music".

+TheDerDumme My sincere apology, I did copy this, as I was merely trying to help, as, if I recall correctly, I did not realize at the time what the repercussion(s) will be; I made a later dated 'pasting' of a previous comment. (also) There were some folk whom did not seem to realize that the content which I pasted was in 'SHOW MORE', or further down in the comments field. Must concede you did make me laugh. I shall in future attempt to abstain from going Bach to the seeming unacceptable practice bordering on sheer plagiarism. I live and learn. Thank you for engaging me on the matter, as you've inadvertently taught me something about 'like' acquisition, whilst while typing this, I've been listening to the awesome music content of this page. One of my intentioned plagiarisms is, 'out there beyond space and time, there is a place, I'll meet you there', which I adapted from Rumi's, 'Beyond ideas of right doing and wrong doing, there is a place, I'll meet you there'. Now that I seem to have a better Handel on things, I'll be Bach Chopin in the accumulation of more 'likes' at a future stage. May I once again copy a portion and dedicate the following to you and to all kindred folk whom traverse this earth with me, '50:32 Mass In B Minor BWV 232: Gloria In Excelsis Deo - Et In Terra Pax'. May those trumpets invigorate your soul, raise your spirit, bring you closer to the Divine which dwells in you all.

And I also read of a schoolteacher in a bad school who, when she introduced Bach as background music, calmed the students down considerably.

I love his ability to create such music with beautiful harmonies and combinations of rhythms and how each instrumental section gets to shine. and I love how he changes from major to minor so beautifully in Brandenburg concerto three especially, which is one of my favorites. the minor part gives me chills because it's so great, but kinda scary 😃.
