Hey, Marc here, the developer of Block Strategy. Thanks so much for mentioning my game at the start, I really appreciate it. Personally I'm excited to play Battle Aces the most!

I think D.O.R.F is something worth mentioning, it looks just fantastic and really captures that 90s RTS vibe so well. Base building & resource collection, lots of really cool giant units with plenty of variety, mentions of things like a railway system. What they've shown just seems great and it seems to have so many cool planned features.

I'm one of contributors in Beyond All Reason project. Thank you for featuring BAR over and over again.

I am suprised you haven't mentioned D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict in the beyond section. If you haven't heard about that one yet it got a steam page with a little trailer that. Got a pretty interesting art style.

Broken Arrow and Dust Front are the most stand out for me. One is military rts that looked more promising than Warno, and the other one reminds me of Tiberium Wars with darker colour.

Immortal gates of Pyre and Ablight are worth mentioning

I'm looking most forward to Tempest Rising, Dust Front, AoM Retold, Sins 2 and D.O.R.F. I really hope RTS developers are learning the lesson that a focus on sweaty competitive online play at breakneck speed is what drove most casual players (and thus income) away from RTS.

Im always glad to see I'm not the only one constantly thinking about rts games. I just hope these games come out great and possibly help revive the genre. Im excited for tempest rising and dust front rts as a C&C fan. We're so back

Dust Front is my most anticipated. I hope it's good!

The game I'm personally most excited about, but isn’t on this list, is Silica. It's a rts/fps hybrid. It's in my opinion extremely promising. Beautiful graphics and atmosphere. You can buy and play the EA already, but mind you, a lot of content development still needs to be done. The developer is very active in interacting with the community, and has a great vision for the game.

Cataclismo rocks! I’ve never seen rts game do so much with verticality. Base building is unique and interesting. Art style is great and story seems promising. If you can, please cover it! The devs deserve it.

We're all wondering that. They were supposed to release last year. Now it's delayed and they won't release all 3 factions. 2 at launch and the last one later. It's a bit worrying.

Really wish there was something like Red Alert 3, with its art style and absurdity. Red alert 3 and it’s dlc uprising was some of the most fun I have ever had playing for RTS campaigns. I suck at the game but I have probably played each mission at least 50 times, with my favorite missions well above it

I am SO hype for broken arrow, ive been in every play test (i think) so far and oh man i just want it now. I cant wait to get the unrestricted access to the full unit list of each battlegroup. It even has tactical nukes, its gonna be so bad ass!

Rusted Warfare RTS is another game with "RTS" in the name. Also, quite a good little rts game!

There is also a new RTS from "Syrian Warfare" creators called "Front Edge". It technically have been released this April and was pretty much playable, but it's mostly multiplayer and constantly receiving new features, obviously being a groundwork for something bigger - roadmap suggests it becoming a premium game with singleplayer campaign and editor at some point in the future (or most likely serve as a platform for paid expansions with various campaigns). Until then it probably won't get to Steam though and currently only available on the developer's website or VK Play to download.

Let's hope that Tempest Rising and Broken Arrow can deliver for their (new) fans.

I'd like a sci fi rts game with a halo-like character models, playing as either a futuristic earth military (balance) fighting for survival or a highly advanced enigmatic alien invaders (powerhouse) similar to 2005 war of the worlds and independence day, and having some grey-and-grey morality within these factions.

I would also add 'Diplomacy is not an option' - available in early access now, releasing fully in September.

Did you catch the new trailer for Mars Tactics? Looks like it has some strategy and management elements to it now

Ratten Reich, Dust and Broken Arrow added to the wishlist. Also really exited for Sanctuary, but then again how can you improve on a perfect game. Honestly at best we could get a really good (SupCoM) 'Doom' clone

BAR is my favorite hands down

It's interesting that almost all of the titles have a sci-fi setting. I personally prefer the high fantasy setting, which seems to be out of fashion right now.

You forgot about Frostpunk 2, Warno as well. I am not sure but also Tempest Rising as well.

Broken Arrow looks almost the same as the Wargame series, much closer to it than World in Conflict.

There is one other RTS, which is called Mass Conflict: Ignition. Creators are called Misclick Games. It C&C Generals inspire.

There are more which are not on this list but I like the list ! I'm craving RTS so much... I miss that time where RTS were everywhere, what happened? :( So many great RTS would also deserve a remake !

Era one (surely in early access) should get released this year. An innovative homeworld like game by the hw complex mod devs. Beyond all reasons... again? Its released already since years now. Well free advertisement is always appreciated for such a niche game. zero-k deserve more love too.

please look into the first explorers. very similar to settlers3/4 but made by an indie developer with modern graphics! a trailer was released recently! 200k views on it in 2 weeks.

Kinda puzzled why people compare Broken Arrow with World in Conflict, while there are Wargame and Warno games. BA is much closer to them than to WiC. Its funny that I remember buying Wargame:EE exactly because "it looks like WiC!" but it was so long ago, the series gone its way since. And BA goes with them. For WiC-like I'd say Terminator Defiance is more like it or its successor Front Edge.

You know this might be a controversial take but I am sorta not into the Total Annihilation or SupCom Type of RTS, yes its a huge battllefield and can be thousands of units but alot of units dont have a unique charm about them, Like they go from T1 tank to T2 Tank to T3 Tank and not much has changed, maybe its because of the way I play these games, Tend to zoom out alot and to see the dots on the map and use those alot. The maps are just big plains too , barely any cities or any other environment.

I still want to see a new galactic battlegrounds game that runs on the current age of empires engine and or a modern equivalent of empire at war but it has the clonewars era and more independent or sub factions

You should take a look at DORF, it seens like a good game but not sure when its releasing, only RTS of the "old style" that captures my interest

Total Annihilation deserves a remake it was my first RTS and up until last year I still played it some. Unfortunately my new pc with W11 wont run it or other older games such as Empire Earth and Rise of nations

Try a few things to play old games: * Install Legacy Component (from "Windows features") * Set Compatibility to Windows XP SP2 in old game Properties. * Try googling something like this "game name Windows 11". Or "game name community patch". * Try old game + DXVK. I'm going to try stormgate and will likely give them money just to support RTS games, but I personally think RTS games need to go down the path of "online is free but the single player costs money". I think SC2 would have succeeded better with that model. I personally really need a single player to sell me on the world enough to want to play online, unless the online does a LOT of world building (i don't even think helldivers 2 did enough of that and would've benefited from a slapstick single player game)

Wanted to buy Retold, but after I saw the God portraits I essentially backed off. That and the old portraits being premium content is more than enough for me to stay with the older EE...even if Tales of The Dragon is one huge bug-filled mess.

Dust Rust looks more like an Amalgamation of Starcraft 1/2 and Dawn of War 1 with their art style. Can't wait for any promising RTS's

I know it's not my place to tell you what to like sir Zade but I feel like your uh.. how can I put this... "Mildly visceral" reaction to PvP RTS seems somewhat misunderstood to me. PvP RTS is one of the most amazing feelings you can have as a commander on the field dishing against another human commander. The problem is in my opinion that you are sick... Er what am I insulting you? No what I really mean is that there is this sickness or phobia that has entered the bones of some people that any rts that tries to take it's PvP seriously will instantly end up like StarCraft 2 and now we're going full eSports mode and let's get a hyper competitive ranked system...... No like, calm down 😁 PvP is fun, smashing your dumb brain in your opponents dumber brain in a human experience is super fun. This is what most rts PvP is and should be.

I really do not understand the logic of paying more for a game to play it a week before anyone else. Does 7 days really matter that much? Don't people have jobs and other commitments that would make such a thing trivial?

You're not paying more to play early; you're playing at release time. This is exactly it, and I find it amusing and confusing that people are okay with this kind of scam.

Dust front dev is kinda a PoS. Openly supports the war in Ukraine. Play it if you want to and ignore his opinions or whatever, but i won't be playing it since he thinks Russia committing war crimes is fine.

And??? I doubt you understand why the war is happening in the first place. Putin sucks yes but continuing to put military bases by the Russian border and Ukraine playing both sides of the fence they got what was expected. Also Ukraine has been funneling dark web money and helping support the sex slave trade for decades. Neither country is clean and they dont need our money. NATO needs to pay us and protection isn't free. Grow up.

The 4 pillars of Stormgate are Campaign, Coop, PvP and Custom Games, and seeing how its made by people who worked on Warcraft III and StarCraft II, I am confident the campaign and PvE coop will be great. There's another StarCraft inspired RTS: ZeroSpace, which is going a bit further than Stormgate in the Blizzard RTS formula. It will have a RPG-style campaign, and the PvE coop will be part of a galactic war, so that's also great. Other than these two, I'm mostly looking forward to Age of Mythology Retold, although after WC3 Reforged, I am still on the fence about remakes.

ugh so much cartoony "style-ised" art directions in RTS. Never was a fan. Prefer something girtty like or realistic like Broke Arrow as you covered, or the new Terminator RTS game that released a bit ago.

RTS games that have stylized art last longer, and RTS games are in it for the long haul. you may have noticed that RTS games that look hyper-realistic tend to die because the artwork ages like milk and drives people away. where as homeworld (as in the original, not remastered homeworld) still has a fanbase

Lets be honest for a moment , when they abandoned c&c general serious and lotr games we are doomed nothing fun anymore i just play c&c again and again

I hate that all the supreme commanderish games and most of the games you showed in this video have that supreme commander 2/Planetary Annihilation anime style look to them. Why cant they just make it look "serious"? Is it because they fear bad performance? how can that be a problem if Sup Com Fa did it back in the old days. its 2024 damit!

Sup Com Fa is still stylized but in a simplistic way not in a flashy way, it's arguably more performant to do it like that than introducing flashy flash. But don't get it too confused, just because SupComFa is less flashy and "anime" whatever you mean by even saying that... It doesn't mean it's not following the same underline principal for performant unit design. It is infact a founder of such methods thanks to how old it is, but units and tanks tend to have more simplistic shapes to them so you think it looks more serious and not anime.

@@EscapeIxTxI StarCraft 2 is very well designed, both in unit silhouette and art style. The interesting thing is that when you set sc2 to low settings it doesn't just show the same models with shitter quality, it shows something that can essentially be described as StarCraft 1 in HD. Either way, with that said, the way these old RTS games were made was something else, a different type of era and talent, and also, hand painted textures, as far as I'm aware they don't quite do hand painted textures anymore, it's more automated and generalized, and with that, more generic. A lot of the units design and look falls to the person that sculpts the model and less to the person that used to hand paint the texture of the model, and now lighting and other graphical jargon like ray tracing arbitrarily effect models and dramatically impact how they look mid game, so it can seem that everything is seriously inconsistent during different stages of an ongoing match. I do appreciate Stormgate to an extent though they seem to be genuinely caring for performance and low filesize.
