The series ‘Unorthodox’ is also shot largely in Berlin (and some parts in New York). It is an amazing story and so beautifully filmed.

Recently I discovered Hannibal. I heard about it but I guess I overlooked it and forgot about it. It stars Mads Mikkelsen as what I believe is the best Hannibal Lecter portrayal I've ever seen. In fact I believe he alone carries the show masterfully. The other actors are playing catchup and even begin to copy his mannerisms and way of speaking. I love the deep symbolism that is left up to the viewers to decipher. It keeps you guessing and intrigued in what is supposed to be a grisly series of events that you almost forget the barbarity of it all. And maybe that's what makes this show so sick and disturbing...it's us.

I watched Babylon Berlin recently and it was breathtaking, I loved it! I just suggest it to everyone!

If I may: ‘Berlin Syndrome’ is in English (it’s a German/Australian production) and is a really good psychological thriller with excellent acting. The male lead is a great German actor named Max Riemelt. He also stars in ‘Free Fall,’ often dubbed the German ‘Brokeback Mountain’ - it doesn’t take place in Berlin, but it is 100% in Germany. FYI: for you Sense8 fans: Max Reimelt is the guy who played Wolfgang 😉

Good bye Lenin! Is for me one of the best movies filmed in Berlin. I love how it shows this critical time during the Fall of the Berlin Wall through the eyes of a young activist

Was that the one where the mother was in a coma during the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany and her children have to go out of the way to pretend that had hadn't happened as she was a communist and wouldn't want to know that she is now living in a capatalist country?

I moved recently to Berlin, and unfortunately the lockdown rules got worst than ever here. So that video is really important for me, as your channel. By my computer screen I started to discover the city!

Hello RL from the USA! Your nation has a rich history when it comes to movies even 100 years ago! I've watched Fritz Lang's movie called "Metropolis", and it's more pertinent today than it was in 1920 when it was made. I'm surprised that the world doesn't know much about German TV shows or movies given all your country's accomplishments in this field.

Really good ones but how is Run Lola Run not on the list?!?!

‘Far away so close’ is also old but gold. Very interesting plot and the script is amazing!

Both is must see if you're interested in history.

Here are some other German movies based in Berlin that are really good and have a good soundtrack. "Atomic Blonde" and "Run Lola Run", with Franke Potente. Based in Berlin I think. And they play techno music throughout the movie! Keep up the good work on the YT videos.

Definitely one of the best tv shows of all time!

Deutschland 83,86,89 in Amazon prime movie also good and Charitè in Netflix

Watched almost all of these, no regrets. Started with Babylon Berlin, loved every minute of it, and then just went on to devour almost everything Netflix and HBO had to offer in German, lol. The last in line was Who Am I, and, man, it completely blew me away in the final act. Then again, I expected nothing less from the people who made Dark, which is probably the best show I've seen in my whole life, ever.

Yes, Lola rennt/Lola runs from 1998 I recommend too. Thanks for your entertainment... I felt a stab in my heart when you mentioned Berlin Calling. For me it shows this joyful ease of the 00 years. Were we naive or am I right that these were sunnier times? 🤔

I was living near Friedrichstadpalast in Mitte when they were filming. I used to see the film crews and sets on my way to the Humboldt University as I walked to work. I love it!

@Eartha Need “The beginning is the end. The end is the beginning.” Give me a break. This series should have been resolved in one season, but on and on and on it went... hopelessly confusing with no reward for our patience at the end. I hope the actors were paid well though.

I can't believe you did not include Berlin Tag und Acht. Such an accurate portrayal of Berliners.

Best documentary is "B Movie; Lust and Sound in West Berlin". It's about the 80s punk and goth music scenes. Absolutely essential viewing.

I watched a German film, I dare to say, 11/12 years ago, and I loved it. _Julietta, es ist nicht wie du denkst_ set in Berlin.

Der Untergang, Good Bye Lenin, Herr Lehmann. I can't believe these three movies weren't mentioned, I knew them even before I came to Germany (with the exception of "Herr Lehmann"). My teacher in high school made us watch "Good Bye Leinin" and...well everybody knows "Der Untergang"

I found Babylon Berlin to be pretty good, especially if you have an interest in Germany's Weimar period. Pretty good stuff

My favourite Berlin movies (either shot or set in Berlin): 1) Der Untergang (2004) * 2) Das Leben der Anderen (2006) ** 3) Goodbye Lenin (2003) ***** 4) Lola Rennt (1998) ****** 5) Berlin Tunnel 21 (1981) ******* * - Probably the best movie about Hitler ** - I actually learned a thing or two regarding interrogation (if the suspect is guilty, he will keep repeating the same story over and over) ***** - Great movie, I should rewatch it I guess ****** - Small 'artsy' movie that somehow left me with the impression I had seen it three times instead of only once ******* - American tv-movie but starring mostly Germans and shot in Germany, though not in Berlin I guess (the bridge scene is rather chilling) -> While looking up Horst Buchholz his bio, I found that he was born in Berlin. A few other German actors were also born in Berlin, while actress playing the protagonist's girlfriend, Ute Christensen, was born in East Germany. Coincidence?

'Berlin Bouncer'. Documentary that interviews bouncers including the crazy looking Berghain guy Sven Marquardt.

I'd add the following to the list: - Sonnenallee - Herr Lehmann - Der Himmel über Berlin (Wings of Desire) - Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (the movie from 1981, NOT the Amazon series) - Prinzessinnenbad (a documentary from 2007 following three 15-year-old girls growing up in Kreuzberg)
