A lot of people seem to have not understood the film, which surprised me, but maybe knowing the original title helped. I think the biggest theme of the movie is "How do you live... with grief?" I was bawling by the end of it.

The only thing I paid attention to was whether or not every hand off to Emma was unique. I've come to the conclusion they used the same clip over and over and I love it

At this point, I think thing Patrick can do about Barbie is never talk about ever again. Personally, I would allow disallow him from mentioning Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Noah Baumbach and of course especially Greta Gerwig for at least a year. But Barbie is Barbie and those who refuse to bask in its glory are just sinning in the Augustinian definition: depriving and negating all that is holy in the world and beyond. Besides he like Poor Things which was the Best Picture. And Lanthimos looks like to be in the conversation next year.

The fact that the idea of the award for "Best Oppenheimer Dude" made me actually say out loud (thankfully to myself, be incredibly embarrassing if people were around) "If this DOESN'T go to Josh Harnett, I swear!" truly highlights the gamesman spectator sport of awards show. Even in satirical form.

I'm appalled, no, revolted, no, bedazzled, no, insulted that the best puke award didn't even nominate Messi from anatomy of a fall, let alone award it the Vito as it righteously deserved, that's absolutely and categorically preposterous and have put in question the whole voting committee of this award show and their ethics shame, I say, shame!

I don't know why I found it so hilarious but re-using the same shot of Emma coming to grab the award is funny every, single, time.

I was thinking “there’s no way Patrick passes over on Hartnett” so I’m happy he got his own category.

I want to start a petition to get Emma to host, or at least co-host, next year's Vito Awards. If the add reads are how Emma gets paid, if I watch the add read more than once does she get a raise? Was that just the same shot of Emma taking away the awards used over and over again? Or did she just have that choreography down. I absolutely loved the many titles used to introduce Patrick. I learned so much about him from those intros. Just needed to say that only 2 videos into the new season and already the new desk is missing from the video. I missed the desk. Out of the 2 new additions to the cast I like the desk far more than Nobbles. Thanks for the recommendations for movies I need to see.

The Boy and the Heron made me gasp several times on my first viewing from the breathtaking visuals. On my second viewing, I gasped again from seeing so much that I missed the first time. Of all the contemplative films about the art of filmmaking, this might be my favorite. You ask a director to reflect on their legacy and Miyazaki creates an entire fantasy universe that encompasses both his own feelings on his career, and visual motifs from all of his previous fantasy universes. Insanity. Also, speaking of Oscar snubs, Joe Hisaishi's snub for score was CRIMINAL. I can't listen to Ask Me Why without crying. The Great Collapse MAKES the ending scene. God what a film!

I would say Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse was snubbed for Best Fall (the moment where Miles falls out of the building in Nueva York and Miguel dives after him.) But even not having seen John Wick 4, it clearly deserved the win. Fantastic video.

I thought it was The Departed and was very confused when he said it was Crash.

Patrick said "The winner of the 2006 Best Picture Award" and I immediately said, out loud, "Crash, it was Crash". And then he kept telling us he would tell us what the 2006 Best Picture Award winner was, and I said "Crash, it's Crash" every time.

@@AlexJ1 It gets confusing if you’re going off of “year the movie was released” or “year the movie won” cause the Oscars take place early in the year for last year’s movies. But Crash won Best Picture in early 2006, and had its wide release in 2005.

I'm back! I just remembered a film that makes a nice counterpoint to Crash: 1971 Ettore Scola's "My Name is Rocco Papaleo". BTW, I really enjoyed the Vito Awards - and your choice for Best Film is just untoucheable!

Killers of the Flower Moon is my favorite of 2023. That ending was audacious in a way I love to see from one of our established masters, pushing himself in pursuit of ecstatic, dreadful truth. Also I had diarrhea during Oppenheimer, but got it out quickly and only missed Rami Malek's first appearance.

Say what you want about Crash (no really, I encourage it), but the score was incredible. Almost so good that it didn't even feel like it belonged in that movie!

Rumor has it that Emma has a studio apartment in Schenectady filled to the brim with Vitos, so many that the comptroller of Schenectady is rumored to have visited said studio apartment.

Rye Lane was my fave of last year. The creative verve I saw made me excited about movies again at a time I felt pretty despondent. If you haven’t seen it (because it was quietly released on Netflix) I’d highly recommend Accused, the most tense and upset I felt watching a movie in 2023.

The Boy and the Heron in number 1 spot is big W for me. It’s an amazing movie. yeah, it’s not clear immediately, but it’s incredible once you get it.

I hate awards shows, but I damn sure remember 2006's whomp-whomp of a winner.

My top 5 of the year are 5. Poor Things (I love expresiontistic cinema), 4. American Fiction (the sharpest script of the year and it baffles me it wasn't mentioned once in this video), 3. Oppenheimer, 2. Beau Is Afraid, and 1. Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. Again with those last two, I'm amazed that they were but passing mentions here and that their placements in your top 25 were so low (especially since I've seen most of what you put above them). Art is subjective but I am sad that they didn't get the recognition I think they deserve. Especially American Fiction, since it was the only best picture nom not mentioned AT ALL.
