The BEST Mountain Biking Trail - HORSETHEIF, KOKOPELLI | Grand Junction, Fruita, Loma, Colorado

I know that it is a bold statement that I am making, but I think after you watch the video, and ride Horsetheif Bench trial you will agree it is the best trail in the Grand Valley. The mountain biking at the Kokopelli Trail system in Loma, Colorado is top notch, all the trails are fun in their own way, BUT Horsetheif Bench is the best one, and arguably the best. The Lunch Loops in Grand Junction offer some amazing riding, 18 rd in the desert north of Fruita is fantastic, but the trail that I think about riding, and gravitating too all the time is Horsetheif. It offers a wide range of riding, from big drops, to little drops, to flowy, fast sections, to super chunky rock sections, to terrifying rock sections, including the infamous Horsetheif Drop-in. Below are links to a few riders making it all the way down the drop (on their bikes) and one, Jeff Lenosky, making it all the way up. I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed riding the trail and making this for you all to watch.

Great video! My favorite loop too. Thanks for both the encouragement and views of the lines through the tech. New sub!

Great video! I love Horsethief, super fun, but my go-to trail here is Troy Built. It has it all (except the crazy drop-in) and the views can't be beat. It's got the flow, the chunk and all the tech you'll want!

We just rode this trail system . Loved most of it but I didn’t have the balls to ride Horsethief. Thanks for sharing this video, well done. I’m now going back to ride this trail 🚵🏽‍♂️

That first part is definitely intimidating. But the rest is mostly rideable for sure. Glad you’re going to go back! It’s worth it just for the fun! Enjoy!!

Dude great video. About to move to GJ for a few months for work, and a large part of that is to spend more time getting into mountain biking. Definitely still very much a beginner, videos like this are great fuel.

Damn dude! That looks absolutely terrifying! Just trying to ride down a nearly vertical chunky cliff face was mental. Definitely made it further than I would have haha. Such a cool trail!

"Dead Cow Point." I didn't know that name stuck. IF I recall it was like circa 2002-04 when that cow died and I remember riding that and having to smell that cow for it seems months.

That’s all I’ve ever known it as. I figured a cow had died somewhere around there. I learned about it in probably 2017/18. I am sure that did not smell good. Thanks for watching and sharing.

Horsethief is really mental more than anything. Don't get me wrong, you have only one or two lines so you have to see it and commit from the ledge drop off that big boulder. Also, the boulder pattern is changing year to year. Not smart to just charge down it bc you did last year. After about 30 mins of failures and carries I did clean it. Not a local, so I only did it once. Probably my proudest moment on a bike. Great vid.

It is very mental, for sure. I think it’s even harder now then it was a couple years ago when I was there and my buddy did it. Committing is key, I’m not sure I can/will. Good for you. That would be my proudest moment for sure. Thank you, I appreciate that.

Love Horsethief! Rode it only once last year with friends. Watched The Crashing Dad that same day with an INSANE group who were rolling down Horsethief Drop on a HARDTAIL! No thanks, I hiked my hardtail down the drop so I was still alive to ride HT Bench. 😂

Yeah, I ride as far as I can then walk the hard stuff for sure. I was there the first time The Crashing Dad did it, it was awesome. On a hard tail would be super tough. I'd walk it all too. Thanks for watching.

Fun trail!! Rode it the first time last year since it was recommended by this guy called the crashing dad who doesn’t post KZread videos anymore! Made it up the climb after the narrow rock ledge my first try, but barely. I watched a few videos of it before so maybe I cheated a little!

Sorry, I just saw this. I don't know why it took me 6 months to see this. In that same area is Rustles Trail. It is a pretty easy trail, but it is fun. The lunch loops have a bunch of good trails. I made a video about the best loop there. I would love to help more if needed. Thank you for watching.
