Speaking of, they're doing a Remake of the original Wizardry. It's in early access now, and it's really good. Same game, but with fresh graphics and animations, and an ever so slight amount of QoL.

I played the game for a while after watching Tom and determined the point of the years and days. Monsters only respawn when the year changes. So the time it takes for you to get recovered is a mechanic to pass time to respawn monsters so you can farm again.

MAN, I get such a hit of nostalgia from this! I used to play a game called Mordor when I was a kid that looks very similar to this! Later on, the same devs made a game called, Demise: Rise of the Ku'Tan that I played the ever-loving sh** out of. Thank you for showing the old school dungeon crawler genre some love!!! If this game actually had, you know, art for walls, floors and ceilings, it'd be an instant buy for me. But staring at just a black screen with wireframe environments for hours? I never want to go back to those days... We played those games for the gameplay, not because they looked like they did. Insane decision to just opt to not include environment art in this..

I _love_ the look of this, and it's cool that this came from Dungeon Crawler Jam 2024 (which I had no idea was a thing). Fingers crossed that they manage to make a sequel like their post-release plans mention, as I would love features like if the minimap either had little markers for enemy positions on explored regions (like the original Rogue), or visible enemy sprites in the 3D corridors like the later era dungeon crawlers that would be big draws from a follow-up. A truly perfect birthday present ta myself for today.

It doesn't feel very authentic to the old dungeon crawlers. The old RPGs always had oodles of depth and decision making. In this game you just decide what party you bring and that's it. The level up and blacksmith don't give you any choices, they could just as well be automatic when you get back to town. I guess this is fine as a casual game but just play something from 40 years ago if you want depth of gameplay.
