Add the side pouches from the large ruck. It adds a lot of space to an already good system. Just watch the zippers because they can slip behind the pouches. I was a medic and the extra space saved me from having to deal with an aid bag on shorter ops.

I actually kinda prefer it this way so you can attach more stuff to the sides. The camelbak is the perfect length for the sides of these and otherwise you can put either a sustainment pouch or e tool to Balance the weight out

I used to use military gear when I was much younger. It looked cool, seemed functional. As I got older and more experienced, I realized the real engineering was in the specialized civilian stuff. It sits better, distributes weight better, moves better, packs better, etc. And it also comes with lifetime warranties.

I first saw the MOLLE in 1999. Schofield Barracks. A platoon got to test it out. Then, in 2002, at Fort Drum we had a MOLLE ruck we tested as well. The sleeping compartment was actually a separate piece, then we got another MOLLE the ruck with the sleeping compartment attached which we used in Iraq. It was a better version. This was 2005-06. 🤘🇺🇸

I've been wearing plate carriers since 2012. The one issue I've had was fitting a rucksack over the carrier and being able to shoulder my rifle. Not only that, but not pinching off the blood circulation to my head whenever I'd raise my pistol to my eyes. Rucksacks and carriers have evolved since then. I've learned with PCs the shoulder straps have to be flat, but padded. With medium to large backpacks the shoulder straps have to be wide and flat so as to evenly distribute the weight and allow the butt of the rifle to have real estate to be pressed against the shoulder. Searching for such perfect combinations for my own personal taste has taken me years.

Wiggys used to sell a load carrying pack that used the Molle II frame, shoulder straps and belt. Basically a shelf at the bottom. It was great for carrying tools to do trail maintenance like a gas tank, chainsaw, axe..... I think the lack of mesh pockets was intentional as the mesh pockets can get snagged quite a bit if you have loaded packs piled up in the back of a truck or on terrain features.

Thanks for the review, sold me on it. Picked one of these up recently. Definitely NOT designed in Natick... Somebody had a look at the old ALICE ruck and listened to the soldiers who used it. Former 11B, C Co. 4/9 IN, 6th ID (Light), Alaska in the early 90's. We had the CFP-90 (the old predecessor to the current large MOLLE) and regularly ripped straps and buckles off it. It was especially bad if you had the bitch bag/tripod or a baseplate. We were issued the large ALICE ruck when it had to be DX'd. This is a little small for AK, but still wish we had this for JRTC rotations/summer FTXs.

Guten tag! Wie gehts. I love my surplus rucks and sacks both USA and European manufactured. They all may be heavy, heavier than domestic packs but they take so much more abuse and keep on working. I found an Army Molle II medium ruck on ebay for around 50 bucks and that thing has a lot of carrying capacity. The seller included several pouches and threw in a rain cover. It is a very comfortable pack. One of my favorite bushcraft packs is the Norwegian Army Rucksack. I can carry skis, axe, shovel, or rifle behind the side pockets. I was surprised that the NAR was featured in a Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris movie, The Heroes of Telemark. LOL...you can adjust the sternum strap depending on how muscular you are..."or not". Unrelated historical note: In the Napoleonic wars, the British packs were godawful. Chafed and even choked the soldiers using them. The French packs were well-made and much more comfortable. So you could always tell the veterans from the recruits in Wellington's army, because the veterans swooped on French packs after battle. Using a French pack proved you'd been in battle.

Other mods I would implement for my own needs, adding sustainment pouches and replacing the original hip belt with a longer one to add pouches, but that ruck looks like it would do the job for what I want it for. Hunting, Camping and Bushcrafting.

Components are hard to find (I learned the hard way). Mcguire Army Surplus has the frames new. Hip belts can be found on eBay (medium and large). The medium shoulder straps are impossible to find (even used). Some folks use the larger enhanced shoulder staps but they dont attach the same as the medium.

It's actually one of my fav issued ruck or piece of gear issued. I can honestly live out of it for about 4-5 days weather pending but the fact that it actually has smaller pockets in the larger pockets is way better than the larger ruck that is literally 1 giant bag and two sustainment bags. For my larger ruck I use an Malice pack that has been modified heavily with extra pouches and it's leaps and bounds better than the larger ruck. This is also a great jumpable ruck too. If you need to wear it with body armor though I would suggest removing the frame though and I've swapped out to different shoulder straps and added the larger ruck waist pack or else that plastic frame will dig into your lower back super bad.

It's been my personal experience that anything you can "live out of" for 3-4 days, you can do so indefinitely as long as the gear holds up. Great advice you have here.

I took the big pad from the new ruck and put it on my old alice pack and its amazing! I like my assult pack but hate that its acu id kill to find an assult pack in woodland/bdu/dcu. This new pack you got is making me want to try it. I always had problems with the plastic frames getting brittle and breaking in freezing temps im in northern Minnesota-30 to -60 is possible and not uncommon whats the worst cold environment you have had it in and did you have a frame break taking an impact?

Got done with a 3 day FTX, used this (fully filled) while carrying a 249. Shit FUCKED my shoulders and back up, regardless of how I’d situate the waist strap. Granted we were moving through jungle and doing 2 klick maneuvers but still. Ima stick with my large ruck tbh

I get it, its a nice pack, but you should try the 5.11 Rush 100. Nearly all the issues you mentioned with this pack have been addressed with the Rush 100.

My dude, the creaking! How do you hush up this frame!? I've applied some medical wrap on the bottom corners where part of the belt loops into the frame, but now I believe I'm getting the creaking from the bottom center. Can't really dampen with the med. wrap in that spot - save me, Tom Cruise!

Great ruck, but so expensive. I'm from EU, Baltic states. As an alternative, I've got french 45-50l ruck, sac de combat made by Cepovett. Brand new, with bladder and everything that comes with this ruck. Only for €80 🤘😂

I've not served, but own military packs. How is your ALICE configured in order to weigh-in at 10-12lbs? I have a large ruck, LC2 straps, and MOLLE II waist belt, and I think it's about 3-5lbs empty. Thanks, and great video as usual.

He is hyperbolic. The Aluce frame is magnesium and aluminum and does not weigh 10 to 12 pouns empty. The nylon pack is much lighter too but wears more quickly and is more easily punctured
