The BEST Lipless Crankbait You've NEVER Heard Of (Pogo Shad)
In this video I'll be highlighting one of my favorite lipless crankbaits that no-one uses anymore. The Tom Mann's Pogo Shad. The hard tail gives this bait a unique swimming action and single hook design helps to keep the bait more snag free than other lipless crankbaits. Let me know if you've ever heard of this bait and ever used it before. Let me know if you will be checking this bait out.

Never seen one. I think the smaller ones would be awesome for smallies in the creeks, and wouldn't have to worry about getting hung up as much. Might have to track one down and give it a try.

Oh yeah I bet both sizes would catch them. You’d be the only guy throwing them too. Thanks for checking out the video!
Very popular on tidal waters over grass because it stays above the grass.

Yeah I could see that being effective. It puzzles me why no other company has tried to bring the design back. It’s getting tough to pay those eBay prices. Thanks for checking out the video!
Had 2 in my tacklebox for years. Never tried them until last week. 3lb smallmouth on my first cast

That’s awesome! I wish they were easier to get ahold of. eBay is your best bet unless you could find an old tackle store.
👉 Great vintage bait! One more neat feature is that the Pogo spirals down like a tube on the fall…looks like that’s what generated your strike! Tight lines out there.

That’s a good point I didn’t think about that. You may be right. Those pogos are real fish catchers. Thanks for checking out the video!
The ppgo shad was three variations like you showed but the two hook actually came with a second hook. Ive seen them new in package that way. Manns also made a even larger version called the pogo minnoe which was a two hook lure. I really like them but.... only have new in box ones and dont want to fish those lol.

Yeah I understand not wanting to throw them. They are hard to find these days. I think I have a couple of the minnows somewhere with the jerkbait style lip. I bet they would produce fish since there’s not really anything out there with that pogo tail.

@@Eightmile_DrifterI know someone that yoyo retrieves the pogo shad in cold water. He does well with them. The minnow he slow retrieves with a slight jerk every now and again, seems to catch a few with them. He's in Texas I believe.

@@blind_eye_fishing you’ve got me curious about digging those pogo minnows and giving them a go. That might make for a neat video.

@@Eightmile_Drifter haha I'm sure it would and in the right place they should catch some fish for sure.
That was a pretty place you were fishing. Where is that?

It’s a swamp lake in lower Alabama
I've got the smaller one. What size short shank hook and eye rings do you recommend?

I have used some of the shorter ones inshore for redfish and even caught some flounder on them but it has been a while. They are a single treble bait so you can really go as big as you can until the action is affected. When I was inshore fishing I believe I settled on a number 6 gama treble. If I was freshwater fishing around snaggy conditions I’d use the triple grip treble from mustad. Those seem to get snagged up far less and the bait is so small they generally eat it when you get bit. Hook ups are not usually an issue when targeting bass. That smaller size makes a good wake bait.
Where did you buy them at?

Now a days ebay is really the only place. If you found an old mom and pop tackle shop they could still have a few left.
