Join us as we look in-depth into the Toyota Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno series. As a sporty 2 door variant of the 4 door Corolla, the Levin / Trueno was designed as a low-cost sports car below the specialty Toyota Celica and Supra sports car. Using a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine since 1972 with the TE27 using a 2T-G engine. In 1983 the 4th generation AE86 debuted with the next-generation engine called the 4A-GE which is also the last Levin / Trueno to be configured in Rear Wheel drive. For the next generations, AE92, AE101, and finally AE111 which is the focus of this video, the models were all Front Wheel Drive. Many AE86 fans, especially those that follow popular Japanese manga and anime 'Initial D' will be familiar with the main character's car being transplanted with the AE101 4A-GE 20 valves high power engine. While it is also a trend to use the final 'blacktop' 4A-GE from the AE111 as a donor to improve the AE86 as it is a Rear-Wheel Drive, perhaps we forget to look closer at the actual performance of the native car. with it's late 90's sophisticated design and advanced suspension. mated with the Japanese industry-first transverse engine 6-Speed manual transmission, the AE111 Levin / Trueno was a worthy rival to the EK Honda Civic. Find out in this video the full history and technical details of this last 4A-GE model. We had the opportunity to encounter an AE86 two-door coupe owner for a comparison review as well. Check out his original and well-kept condition historic car.

    Restyle version AE111 awesome looking coupe. The main issue with the car is a superstrut suspension, it a little bit heavy for ae111 chassis, and it is complicated to find parts for maintaining and repair due to Toyota doesn't manufacture cars with superstrut.

    Minus the Initial D / Drift tax on the AE86. I will def get the AE86 Liftback and Coupe to pay homage to Initial D. The AE111 will be a great track car if you do tons of upgrades to the 4A-GE 20V Blacktop. But given that the 4A-GE engine is really old now. Parts for the engine is getting a lot more expensive and it prob not worth the time and money to upgrade. the Toyota 3S-GE Beams engine swap will be the more modern engine swap for the AE86 and the AE111

  • @johnbowden7058

    @johnbowden7058

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yea, the 3S-GE Beams is basically the equivalent of doing a K20 swap into a CRX or Civic coupe. It makes a little over 200hp at the crank and a nice amount of torque. A good swap if you really want your Corolla to be competitive, especially the 86 being how light it is.
