The BEST Lake Mead Campground & Camp Cooking FAIL

This week we hit the road to check out a new area of Lake Mead that I’ve never been before - Template Bar Marina! This hidden gem isn’t talked about much, so I wanted to check it out myself. There isn’t any dispersed camping directly in the marina so I ended up reserving a spot at Temple Bar Marina Campground. There are 71 spots available at this campground (its huge) HOWEVER there are only 2 spots (spots #1 and #2) that are First come first serve so the REST of the 69 spots available are all Reservation ONLY. There is no Signal out here so be sure to reserve your spot PRIOR to making the drive! The camp host was adamant that you MUST make reservations (even if the campground is empty) so be sure to do this before planning your trip.
This campground is one of the greenest/lushest campgrounds I’ve ever seen within a 1 hour drive from Las Vegas. Each spot is pretty well spaced out and surrounded by brush/trees which makes each spot feel a bit more private considering your in a campground. Each campsite includes a table, fire pit and flat/level parking spot which is perfect for trailers, RVs, vans and truck campers. The campground also has water spigots, RV dump stations and bathrooms.

Fun stuff! I'm hoping some of this rain and snow runoff is going to help - at least for this year. The rivers (Salt and Verde) are overflowing right now with the dam release. Thanks for letting us tag along!!

Hi Elaine! Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos. I was at site 71. I’ve noticed that some sites don’t include a campground map so what I do is search for the map online for a picture and then use Google maps (satelite) to see where the spot is located and what’s around it 👌🏽 Rio was back home with mom guarding the house🙂

With chicken when ye be away from the camp fire, I'd run a 12V slow cooker with thighs (more B12) on the Goal Zero or whatever power source ye have. After 5 hours or so you can shred it with a fork. I'd recommend having plenty of celery, onion and carrots. Get a Cuisinart if you don't have one and use the shred and slice blade flipping it depending on the veggie. Really easy to make chicken salads for the week and the veggies extend meals for days. I add shredded lettuce or spinach, cumin , coriander, black pepper, salt, celery salt and celery seed. Having a back stock of beans/rice is really important to if your stuck somewhere and running out of food. Lentil recipes are what I lived on for a time. It is really economical and can extend time out and about.

Thanks for then suggestion John! That sounds great for weekday meal prep lol my goal battery is only a 400 so I’m not sure if it would sustain a 5 hour crock pot meal lol but I could get it started at home and then on a long drive it could be finished by the time we get there 👌🏽 Thanks for watching man!

@@Kadenventures Dutch oven over a camp fire or still use a smaller cigarette 12v while driving with a mini slow cooker. I picked up a DC to DC charger this winter and it has been a game changer as far as energy needs with only one 100ah lithium. I see Foresty Forest uses an air fryer and hot plate often times for preparing the same meal. I think he runs a victron system with several battle born batteries. The kitchen is always needing fine tuning and adjustments. You've definitely made some epic meals over the camp fire. maybe mix things up a bit with an iron wok. I used to use mine all the time and it can be quicker heating up meals than a microwave. Pre-making tortilla wrap burritos and grilling them can also go a long way. I did that for the 38 hours to Montana to pickup my GFC and I spent zero $ on eating out. Just gas and one night in a hotel.

@@JohnLaFosse I have a tiny 12v rice cooker which I’ve seen people use rice cookers as crock pots so I may look into that. We got rid of our crock pot after getting a Instapot lol I use a DC to Dc charger for my goal zero as well and it’s helped keep it topped off while we drive! Definitely a game changer. I’d love to use an air fryer at camp if I had a bigger battery 👌🏽 I’ll be trying out a few different ways to cook dinner at camp it just depends on if there is a fire ban or not. Thanks John!!

What are the typical prices for camping in your area at State Parks? What vin are you? I noticed you have a cord at the wedge end which pulls in the sides. We don't have that on our V2. Mark (& Teresa) Hampstead Maryland Ford Ranger - GFC Camper V2 #1919

@@KadenventuresWow thats some great prices. They just started charging $15 + 1 time online registration fee of $6.50 for our local PA Forest off grid camping with nothing. So ie $21.50 for the first night vs a PA State Park camp spot with everything for $10 more. Sucks we loved the free camping with no people next to us. Ok yes that explains it. I thought I've seen the cord on earlier models. No real problems getting it in. Just have to be mindful and really make sure it's all tucked in the front. Thank you!
