Hey Coop, Nikolai Puchlov here. Thanks for reviewing our kettlebells! I would like to add a few notes. We do cost more than the other competition kettlebells, but the compatibility with the magnetic chips adds a ton of value (you need to buy half as many). As you said, they are the most comfortable, and that's because I myself am a kettlebell sport competitor, coach and owned Seattle Kettlebell Club where we did a ton of hands on real life training with kettlebells. Lastly we are the only competition kettlebells made in the USA. This has been the hardest thing I've ever done. Providing a quality product at a reasonable price that's made in the USA is part of our mission, but there's a reason no one else is doing it. If any US manufacturers are watching this and want to collaborate please reach out 🙏

Really love this response. Acknowledgment of the cons while emphasizing aspects that are only necessary to help people weigh out the pros vs cons. Its a challenging thing to build a home gym. Which weights to buy and why. I personally made my own concrete plates as before i finished my physio degree I was very broke. Despite that, I believe in every tool and equipment feeling good.

The magnetic chip is a game changer. I am going to replace all my of my comp bells with ProKettlebell eventually because you only need to have one at each weight to train with pairs. Currently training with a 22 (+chip) and a 24 kg for my comp 24’s

HUGE fan of the bells of steel adjustable kettlebell. I have two and use them near every day. Also, an oversight in this category is Eleiko's competition bell. It is the smoothest and best feel in the hand which really matters over long cycles!

I sold my rep fitness adjustable to put towards a second BoS Adjustable. The competition style is nicer (my preference), the REP afaik only goes to 24kg, and realistically I don't change the weights more than once a week so it's only a couple minutes to switching plates. The BOS can also be loaded for 0.5 or 1kg which is another plus. There's a couple brands that all look like the BOS one, I assume they're the same supplier.

I'd like to address a few things here, especially regarding competition kettlebells. Contrary to popular belief, they're not just for people who want to do competition kettlebell lifting, but they're pretty decent allrounders. They're a bit more narrow in handle width, which can make double handed swings somewhat more tricky. However, they offer one incredible benefit: consistency! No matter which weight you pick up, it always feels the same size wise so it's very simple to adjust. Also, I'd like to offer a bit more insight on why those Rogue competition kettlebells can feel more comfortable for a novice kettlebell user. The way they show the bell being held in the picture and the way you were holding it at 5:26 is "wrong". See, your hand is perpendicular to handle, but if you're using good form it should be diagonal. It's funny, because with the Apollo kettlebell you're kinda showing proper form (because the bell forces you to). It might be a bit uncomfortable at first, but it adds a ton more stability and within a week you'll get used to how it sits on your forearm and it won't hurt anymore. I've gone with competition kettlebells myself, one "normal" competition and one hollow competition bell (only thing that was in stock during the pandemic). I definitely prefer the hollow bell, but both are good and will last forever. Try to stay away from those super shiny handles, they're usually not that great.

4:30 Ductile iron is a type of cast iron. What you are trying to say is most cast iron bells are grey iron. Grey iron is less expensive; the carbon in the iron takes the shape of flakes, which is where the alloy will crack easier. Ductile iron has different processing so the carbon forms spheres.

The detailed reviews are the most helpful. I'd like to see you review the Apollos in-depth and the Kettlebell USA competition Kettlebells. Have you ever considered reviewing steel maces and clubs? They seem to be fast-followers for the Kettlebell crowd, and we are starting to see a lot of options (adjustable: CK Maceworks, Adex; non-adjustable: Onnit, Apollo, Wolf Brigade, White Lion, Great Lakes Girya, etc.). Food for thought. Keep up the great work.

I had a bad experience with the REP Adjustables. Twice, the adjustability mechanism picked up one more plate than it should have and it fell out during use, once on my floor padding and once on my foot. If it happened during a swing it would have gone trough a wall. Mentally, I couldn't do anything overhead after; looking up at the mechanism freaked me out to much. Also, they were really uncomfortable in cleans/rack position. I've got 3 adjustable competition bells now (2 KB Kings, 1 Titan). These are the REAL value pick here. When you're used to turning a dial to adjust dumbbells, they take a while to change, but they're rock solid stable in the ballistics, cost a fraction of what multiple individual bells would cost, and don't take up too much space.

Safety is number one for the types of ballistic movements people use kettlebells for. a 2kg plate falling on my head or flying across the room is a never event. If I wasn't 100% confident in the design of the bell, I wouldn't use it even if it was free. it's just not worth the risk.

Finally someone reviews KB's. I'm a hardstyle (cast iron) guy cuz that's what there was 10+ years ago when i started KB's. I have a good mix at this point. Kettlebell Kings, Rep, Rogue, some no name "sampson" The kettlebell kings are the best, it's not close. Smooth handles with a big window and as Coop mentions a great powdercoat. The Reps are 2nd, their handles are pretty nice, but it changes in size at about 20kg or so (much thinner below that, changes the feel and the way you clean it) but they do have a few odd sizes that many don't (smaller jumps) and significantly cheaper than KK. The no name (sampson? doubt they are even in business anymore) are fine. I"m mostly used to them. I think I paid like $300 picked up for 6k to 28k by 4k, that's how old they are. The Rogue's are the least good. The handles are rough (which tears up your hands) and the windows are too small (esp on bigger bells). However Rogue is about the only place (less Great Lakes Girya and kettlebell kings) that offers some big bells (over 48k) so you're limited on that aspect. (These are the imported version). Rogues are expensive esp with shipping. YMMV but while any iron works, a good handle with a good sized window makes it significantly easier to learn and get better at KB's. Rep's bench to hold KB"s is significantly cheaper than everyone else (like $250 vs over $400 for everyone else).

Glad to see you have Pro Kettlebells on the list. I’d love to see you do a full review on these. I would appear Nikolai put out a really great product, as most of the kettlebell specialists I follow have all switched to them. I can’t believe you don’t even mention Kettlebell USA. Their Paradigm Pro’s are the OG hollow core competition style bell. I love my set. Also I have almost a full set of Rogue’s USA powder coated bells, and I would never recommend them. The handles are very inconsistent, especially in the 20kg and under weights. A lot of them are squared off at the seams. They are cast iron as well, instead of ductile iron. Sadly the imported cast iron bells would be my recommendation to get from Rogue. Also side note on ductile iron. They clang a lot louder than cast iron, when banged together. So it may be something to think about if you are planning on working with double bells. I didn’t notice, until Nikolai pointed it out in a podcast.

In the UK Mirafit make amazing cast iron and competition kettlebells of the same standard as Rogue and Kettlebell Kings. I've had them for a couple of years and they are very durable and balanced, also cheaper than the aforementioned ones. I don't work for Mirafit by the way. Rep fitness, Mirafit, Rogue, and Kettlebell Kings are of a similar quality. The ones that are better still and are the true kettlebell kings are the Dragon Door ones. They cost a lot though.

I'm disappointed that my personal favorite aren't on this list!!! Iron Warrior kettlebells have become my favorite. They're American made in one of the last iron foundries in the US & while gym equipment is not their main business, they're looking to bring back American manufacturing. I have Kettlebell Kings & while they're nice, the finish on the IW's holds chalk better & is in that great place of aggressive without ripping your hands up doing cleans or snatches. Added bonus for garage gym folks on those cold mornings, the IW powder coat is actually a good insulator, so the handles are 2-4˚F warmer than my Kings on the same surface. Nothing kills your motivation like cold iron in the morning. The handles are different enough from the Kings (or Perform Better) that you'll have a short learning curve with them. The mouth is wider making these more conducive to 2-hand swings, and your rack position varies just enough to be different. But once you get past that, you'll likely come to like these bells as much as I do!

Coop I’m guessing that you still haven’t tried Ader Kettlebells, you need to review them they are excellent quality and have a phenomenal coating.

6:14 Just be warned that like Coop said, they are similar but not exactly the same. I got a 35 lbs Rep kettlebell just to pair with my Rogue 35 lbs and the handle diameter is different. Rogue is thicker in case you are wondering.

I got miself Amazon Basics Cast Iron Kettlebells in March of 2020 and they are still great. It says solid cast. I have not looked for any other ones since whole range from 15 to 60 pounds still work fine

Rogues shipping is crazy for higher weight. I really wish they would just bake the shipping costs into their retail costs because a 203 pound kettlebell is 285 dollars. Getting it to your house is going to cost close to 300. So 585 dollars for a 203 pound kettlebell vs 456 @ kettlebell kings after tax because they ship for free. Rogue looks substantially cheaper initially but you end up saving almost 130 Dollars by going w kettlebell kings in this particular scenario.

I'm a fan of your content, but a bit disappointed in this review. How is this video titled "BEST of 2024", but you did not even mention Dragon Door or Strong First cast iron kettlebells? I have a 14 year old Dragon Door KB with e-coat that is still almost like brand new, and is the nicest (cast iron) KB I've used compared to others.

Every competition kettle bell offered by Titan is incorrectly colored. I can't imagine why they would do this with a supposedly "competition" spec kettle bell. Titan changed the colors: 8kg from pink to yellow, 16kg from yellow to pink, 24kg from green to "aqua", and 32 from red to white. Imagine buying bumper plates expecting 10green, 15yellow, 20blue and 25red but they arrived in 10yellow, 15pink, 20aqua and 25white. It's like that! Crazy.

Gravity cast kettlebells ftw if you do complexes and juggling. I do like a cast iron kettlebell for conditioning work though. Thankfully, I have both.

Not going to slip in an honorable mention for Onnit? My Onnit gorilla is my favorite thing in my gym. Just the mere sight of it is enough to make my day. Maybe not the most functional, depending on the movement, but it's still a blast to use and looks amazing.
