Karriem pioneered Dilla’s style, but I’d say Chris Dave mastered and revolutionized it

@@AnuSun word…I remember hearing bands like Soulive and Lettuce doing Dilla-esque beats back in the early 2000s. You can throw in Questlove in the mix too since his work with him on the Voodoo album in 98
Dilla does have that SLAP. His old SV stuff was ALL slap.

Right. That's the thing that bugged me out when I first saw it.
When people talk about Dilla, and the artists he worked with, a lot of times its Detroit/Chicago and East Coast emcees. I'm glad you showed the MED and Pharcyde videos. All that Stones Throw stuff is classic, but I actually first heard him on the 1st Pharcyde album (when he was still going by Jay Dee). I think he only did one, or two, tracks on that one; but that whole second album was him, if I remember correctly. One of my all-time favorites. It's been a while, but I played that album to death for at least a decade. If you ever see Idris Muhammed playing on a track, you should cop that and chop that!

I consider Dilla one of the greatest drummers ever. Dude is the spirit of drums🥁🥁

Oh yeah. I know he loved Clyde Stubblefield too. He's talked about how much he loved chopping up breakbeats. And of course, one of them is Funky Drummer. I show a clip of him talking about wanting to flip that in a future video.
