I’m personally running the west Texas off-road hydro assist setup. Have had it for a few years. Honestly, ehh. It’s decent. Could be better. But I have the 3.8 with the weaker power steering pump, and I tried to install the smaller pulley but failed. So I still need that.

What purpose is the small pully? I understand smaller pully more rpm, is the power steering pump that under powered that you would have to overspeed it? I have a 4.0 a 4.2 and 3.6 so I've never got to deal with the issues of the 3.8.

@@callmesomething1425 the smaller pulley allows the belt to spin faster which gives you like 20% more power to the power steering system I believe was the numbers they said.

@@StormbornJKU awesome, I wonder how that would translate to using a larger diameter ram? I'm piecing a kit together for my wife's rig I have a ram but if I can go with bigger it would help boss those 37's around with a little more gusto.

Oh man I disagree, I’m currently running their stuff on a TJ and a JKU. I have the 1.5” and a 1.75” ram and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. Both have been on about 2 years. Bummer that smaller pulley didn’t work for ya, I’ve heard a few folks running em and have had good results

@@Centex_jeeper I just messed up the install. I plan on installing again in the future now that I’m not as dumb lol

Hey! You said in a previous video (#17 at 8:30) that your tires didn’t contact the leaf springs, you said it had tighter steering than warpaint. What changed?

  • @WarPaintOffroad

With leaf springs you don’t have a track bar. With war paint I need one. So the pitman arm on war paint contacts the track bar bracket if I turn full driver with that axle. With the leaf springs it’s a non issue due to not having one.

@@WarPaintOffroad I understand track bars, I’m saying in the maple leaf video: #17 you said the tires didn’t contact the leaf springs, then in this video at 9:40 they ARE contacting the leaf springs. I need to choose between axles this week and its hard to find good information on leaf sprung super duties

@@MaliqThalierYou gotta pay closer attention. In this video he shows that the tires COULD contact the leaf springs if not for the fact he's mindful of that during installation and limiting the travel. I just looked up the video you talked about and the part you're talking about starts right after 8:00, and he's basically just saying the same thing--that when you're planning your steering you need to be mindful about tires contacting the leaf springs and be sure you've mitigated that with your setup.

What do you do to make SD brakes work with the JK

Great question. I plan on making a video about that soon. But there are a number of options. I personally used the J8 kit. That is a larger booster and master cylinder. The stock brake pedal works in this situation and it allows the master cylinder to move more fluid. The factory brake hoses bolt up with the right thread banjo bolts for the calipers. It works perfect. But there are other options. I’ll speak to the ones o have experience with in a future video.

Yeah I couldn’t find the JK8 kit when I did mine so I just upgraded the master cylinder
