Michelin isn't what it used to be. I ran 2 sets of LTX M/S on my Expedition but they are just too expensive and the most I got was about 50k miles out of each set. What really killed Michelin for me was the Michelin Defenders on my Honda had a blow out at 80 mph on the interstate with less that 30k miles on them. The owner of the tire store told me the Defenders had been having problems so I bought Yokohama this time and so far very satisfied

I just got my first set of Continental HT XL tires n my 2021 Toyota Tundra Platinum Crew Max. I had these tires installed in the middle of a snow storm. On my way in with my OEM Bridgestone Duelers HL’S. These tires are unbelievable, when I went in I had to be in 4x4 we got 12” today of wet heavy snow in Iowa. When I left the tire store I wanted to test these new ones out. I left in two wheel drive and never needed 4wd after. They stopped like I was on dry pavement while on 100% snow and ice covered roads. I run Blizzacks on my wife’s car that are a 100% snow rate tire. These perform just as well as an all season on my Tundra. I have never been happier and more impressed with a tire in my life and this is just a highway tire. What amazing tires.

Great review, and you ended up right were I am, I have 13 Navigator and stuck between the Michelin and the Continental. looking for comfort, Florida so no snow but we do alot of beach sand riding... still stuck...

@@143tds Since your initial report was that the Continental TerrainContact HT drives excellent, what prompted you to note that the Michelin has a better ride? Did the Continental get worse as it wore down, or did you get a Michelin later and then feel the difference? etc.

I purchased a used Atlas just recently and am looking to downsize wheels from the stock 20s, down to a 17 with a little more cushion. Obviously that comes with having to buy tires, so here I am. I am a Continental fanboy and have put DWS06 tires on all my cars, and love the feel. This gives me some other brand options to look at, thank you!

I have a 2020 Kia Telluride, and I'm deciding which tire I have to buy. And you helped me a lot with this video. I decided to buy Michelin, I believe that because it lasts longer it will be better in the long term because it is more expensive but ends up being cheaper for the future. Thank you very much!

Just replaced stock Michelins on my 2015 Grand Cherokee today. Was going to go with the Michelin Defender LTX but my tire guy put me on the Continental TerrainContact H/T. Haven't put a lot of miles on them, but they seem excellent thus far. I keep reading and hearing great things about them, found this video after I'd already had them put on lol. Have always felt General is a very under rated tire. I had Grabber AT's on a previous Jeep and absolutely loved them.

After watching the Terrain Contact H/T dominate the competition in Wet, Dry and Snow handling over at the tire rack I decided to purchase them. Glad I did. The confidence they give in pouring rain is awesome. Did great last winter in light snow.

Nice! I’m not into HT tires because they are too focused on highway diving. but Continental makes amazing tires. I just picked up a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 which are true 4 season tires DWS stands for Dry Wet Snow so apparently they do well in the snow too. But they are fantastic so far but it being summer only gotten to test dry and wet and both have been nothing short of amazing. My last set of tires were Michelin pilot sport I forget exact series, I wasn’t as impressed with them as some people are. Yea great summer tires but heavy wet conditions like massive downpours with lot of water on the road, they didn’t live up to the hype many reviewers spoke of and worthless in snow storms I had to actually make an emergency tire purchase last year during a snow storm because of how bad they were in the snow…

How's the road noise? That's my biggest concern for tires. My big SUV is my daily commuter and I do a lot of highway miles so silence is golden for me

@@nspring06 no complaints about Extremecontact DWS06 as of yet.. however if your SUV is heavier and larger you will want to look for XL rated tires (extra load), I believe ExtremeContact DWS series has XL rated tires to pick from. Alternatively look for L/T grade tires (light truck) if you do a lot of hauling and towing, not sure Extremecontact comes in L/T grade however. Edit: only one word of warning about ExtremeContact DWS06, not anything bad, however they are Asymmetrical tread pattern, some people hate Asymmetrical tires for some reason.. this just means there is an inside and outside tire wall you have to be mindful of when mounting them on the rims one side is marked for outside and that side has to face out or it throws off your handling and messes with your alignment. but they can be rotated to any 4 corners as normally after mounted.. Asymmetrical tread patterns typically provide the best grip in adverse road conditions or extreme handling situations.

I bought a set of Michellin Defender tires for a 2017 Nissan Sentra years ago and they lasted a little over 90,000 miles. They tend to be quiet and smooth on the freeway. I was surprised at how long they lasted so I got another set of the same tires again. Although it's an expensive investment at the beginning it's still a good choice.

Ita expensive up front but they pay for themselves with how long they last. Shoot they are cheaper than the good year wranglers and last 2x as much.

@@Arellanog123 maybe I'm an exception as I've had 3 sets of wrangler duratracs between 2 vehicles one set has 85000 and the 2 on the other truck first set was the original factory installed duratracs were replaced at 68000 and the second set currently has 59000 and still has a little over half tread left

Either the Michelin Defender TH or the Uniroyal Tiger Paw AS. Don't go with a full HT because it will hurt the ride.

This is my review on the tires I got from this video: Vehicle: 2001 GMC Yukon XL Tires: Continental Terrain Contact H/T Size: 265/70R17 115T Gas mileage: 11.3 Long story short: I bought new tires due to my tires being 5 years old and around corners in the rain my truck would swing depending on how sharp I took the turn. Really at any speed (I tested it out lol) It would also slide a couple feet at an emergency/hard stop. So I bought new ones before going to mammoth took em to mammoth and man these tires are grippy obviously not bulletproof but huge difference. In rain it’s great no swing with over 2klb of tools in the back or not and overall feel a lot more confidence with rain. Stopping dry or wet is a lot better as well. Highly recommend those and can’t wait to try the Michelin next time. Thank you for your great input and video I definitely feel they were worth every penny 🤝

Thanks for the review. I have a 2000 Ram 2500 that came with Michelin's. That's what i always replaced them with and I was always happy. But the last time i decided to save a little money and went with the Yokohama's. While they gave good service i was never happy about what i considered excessive noise. I always thought i would go back to the Michelin, but since the truck is no longer a daily driver i really couldn't see spending the extra 3 to 4 hundred dollars. Just yesterday a had a set of General Grabber HTS60's installed. Very glad you hold them in such high regard. Hopefully they will give me several years of quality service.

What a great overview of all these tires! Has anyone testing the stopping distance of the Continental H/T vs. A/T? I'm considering one of these for my summer tires and might lean toward H/T if it has significantly better dry stopping distance, otherwise A/T sounds good.

stumbled on your page while researching for my next tires and appreciate the great info. which tire option would you recommend for a mazda cx9 gt..255 50 20 and for chicago area? mainly I want longer tread life and good year round traction

The terrain contact ht has some of the best traction in wet condition.My f250 was almost dangerous on wet pavement but the Terri’s. Contact solved this problem

Finally after countless website searches, other KZread a video has the two tires I'M considering for My RWD Silverado. My local tire shop sold me Cooer Discover AT3 look like mud tires the truck has more of soft bouncy ride, the Discover HY were lot better ride more of controlled.

Man thanks for the info! Had some Nexens on my 2013 Tahoe that crapped out on me. I’m sold on the Generals

I just bought the Michelins (for next spring) because I knew they are good, and were readily available. I've had the Generals before and I absolutely loved them for a year or so. Awesome in rain, smooth, quiet. But after maybe 30k miles they got really noisy. To the point where I had to get rid of them. By that time, they were wearing worse too and the ride was not nearly as good. Looking forward to the Michelins in the spring. I was quite curious on trying the Firestones too because they looked promising.

Another great video! I love all the great tire info in your videos. These videos really help people become educated consumers. My wife thinks it is funny I get excited for these tire videos. Looking for tires for a 2 wheel drive 2014 tundra. Would you go with Contential Terrain Contact AT or Hankook AT2?

I had a set of the cooper evolution HT put on my 06 crew cab 6.5ft F150 and I liked the ride, it was soft and quiet, but it felt like it was not enough tire for that truck and they picked up alot of rocks, I did however enjoy the wrangler tires that came on my 2010 f150 crew cab 5.5ft, could be quieter and softer but no real complaints and they took a real beating! I also enjoy my Bridgestone dueler HL tires although they do not ride as soft nor as quiet on the highway as the coopers did and are not as stout as the wrangler. Right in the middle.

Very informative. I have Michelin Defender LTX/MS on my Chevy Colorado that I tow an RV with. Very satisfied with them, however I believe I'll go with the Conti TerrainContact H/T's next time. A newer design and a little easier on the pocket book.

@@utahnick i got the Cooper Discoverer a/t snow flake rated which is a big difference from the all season stock tires i had. of course we have gotten little to no freaking snow this winter lol. they are decent for the highway but definitely louder than all season. not annoying but it is notable while driving 65-75mph. i KInd of wish i went with all season now. lost about 1 mpg too. though im due for an air filter so im hoping i get back to 17.7 mpg cause 16-16.7 down from 19mpg 3 years ago is starting to suuuuuuck. 2018 silverado v8 i was getting a solid 19mpg the first 2 years.

oh my god and wouldn't you know it! Town fair tire f**ked up on my truck. my steering wheel was off by 15 friggin degrees when it was dead centered prior to them "aligning" the truck. And all my tires were out of balance LMFAO im driving home and there was such a bad wobble i felt like i was going up and down and side to side! my stomach actually got upset. So pissed i had to go back a 2nd time and wait for another hour. And god dammit they f**ked me again! my front left tire has a leak :() losing 8psi in 6 to 7 days. im now going to my local shop to have them fix the tire and ill be tearing Town fair tire a new assho in my google review which they will get. i knew i was going to regret TFT . getting the wifes tires at sullivan tire if they f**k up then im never getting tires again lol ill just buy a new vehicle.

Thanks for the videos, I learn a lot here. I don't think the ribs on the side are for cornering or stability however. Continental and others refer to those as sound barriers, or noise blockers. The Michelin does not use this technology. I prefer the Michelin for this, as I just feel there could be more mud and snow traction without those sound barriers, but I'm not sure it is a better design for traction or not. I doubt the Continental has stone ejectors. Continental sometimes puts small ribs at the bottom of the tread, they refer to them as 'traction grooves' meant to provide a bit more traction. I don't know if that would work or not, but maybe.

Could you do a more in depth comparison of the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and the Conntential Terraincontact H/T?

Great video. I have a 14 Silverado Crew Cab. It has 275/55 20s. I tow a 20ft camper 3 or 4 times a year. Just highway to state parks and then back and forth to work. I was looking at the Michelins, but in your opinion which would be the best? I'm open for suggestions, I have a couple weeks till I buy tires.

You might see a little difference but the AT tires will have more traction.

Great video! I have a 2022 Ford F350 4 x 4 with 18 x 8 wheels. They currently have the continental tires that came mounted from the factory and I am looking to replace them with a set of Michelin defender. M/S. Can you tell me if the LTX 295/70 R 18 will fit properly on my factory 18 x 8 wheels. I have a Carli suspension system on my truck and I plenty of room for a 295. I should mention that this truck will be doing 90% highway miles roughly 8 to 9% towing a fifth wheel weighing 14,000 pounds and the rest possibly off-road. What would you guys recommend on a Jimny? Mostly for city driving done by the misus. But our city roads have lots of potholes. The stock Bridgestone dueler h/t are on 60k kms already and I'm researching on what to get next. Focusing on road safety esp rainy conditions and driving comfort. Any info appreciated! Tnks!

i have had two sets of general grabbers on my 2014 Nissan Frontier. and still have the HTS60’s, but i may swap to another brand like Bridgestone Alenza. the original tires were BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A and they worked out great except i only got 32,000 miles. The first new set were General Grabber XTS which are great tires but there was a vibration between 60 - 80mph, so i swapped them for another set of General Grabber HTS60, and these are doing the same thing at the same speeds. While at highway speeds and applying heavy braking i can feel and hear that there is something going on with at least one tire. Sounds like a spit on a tire that is mismatched possibly the construction of the tire, and both sets of grabbers do the same. Its as if both the XTS and these HTS60 have the same defect. If it’s not the tires, which can’t be because the original BF Goodrich were fine, then what could cause this vibration 60 - 80mph and the defect during heavy breaking ? The tire store doesn’t know what is causing it. These are the original cast aluminum rims and they fit into the hubs snug onto its centers. The tires are slightly out of round but this is with all tires. I like both the Grabber model tires and i would like to keep these HTS60’s, but they have vibration at a specific highway speeds, and noise during heavy braking. Does anyone have General Grabbers with the same issue?

Since I purchased my F-150 new in 2015 I've been going to change the stock Goodyear tires to Michelin Defender LTX. 75000 miles later the time finally came but because of this video I went with the Continental Terrain Contact HT instead. We shall see. Getting them installed this weekend.

@@babagandu I've got 15k miles on the Continental Terrain Contact HT tires. They are awesome on wet roads. I haven't had any issues with hydroplaning even at 80 mph. I don't really do any off-road driving to speak of. I don't have any road noise with them either. I am very pleased with my choice and have zero regrets.

Just picked up a used 2005 Ford Ranger edge 2wd V6 with some Kanati Mud Hogs but need to find a simple road tire, now I feel way more confident in my tire choice ! What would you prefer for my truck?

Matt, you are a cool dude that I really enjoy listening to and you’ve taught me a ton about tires. Question for you…besides cost how do I decide between the Defender LTX M/S and the Terrain Contact HT? I have a new GMC 3500HD single rear wheel, and spend 95% of my time on the road. I live in Michigan where we get snow and ice on and off during the Winter. In the Summer I pull a 8k pound travel trailer 8-12 times. Otherwise it’s my daily driver. I should add that I’ve had a few sets of the Michelins and I know how awesome they are. How do I choose?

Go with what works. If you have had good luck with Michelin, stick with it.

I have a 2006 Honda pilot I just bought, the Bridgestone dueler h/l alenza plus tires on it are very loud. Thinking of those Michelin tires

In the market for new tires for my AWD Durango SXT. I currently have the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and unfortunately, the price has gone up since I purchased in 17. So I’m looking at other options that are cheaper in price, but just as good as the Michelin. I’m eyeing the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 & Firestone Destination LE3. Which is the better tire, in your opinion? Continental Terrain Contact HT is on backorder in the places I’ve looked online.

What do you recommend for a 2018 Silverado 1500 4wd has the 20" factory wheels? 80% highway driving but I'm an equipment operator, and drive through some serious stuff on job sites also.

Thanks for this video. Very helpful. Any recommendations for luxury SUVs. Needing to replace tires on my wife 2019 Cadillac Escalade 285/45/22. Light snow traction is important. Aesthetics are also very important. Mostly highway driving. I know the Alenzas are good but looking at other options. Thanks for all you do.

I would do the Michelin Defender LTX.

I had a set of XOOPERS ON MY TRUCK IN THE 80's, NEVER thought they would ware out, theyve Been my tires EVER since,more than worth The cost they save in long run

Thanks for the great videos. Which one of these is the most quiet and comfortable?

Excellent breakdown. I’ve got a 2002 Silverado 4x4 Z71 with 265/75/16 Michelin’s on it. I’m living in central Florida now and generally only drive paved roads anymore and haul a boat to the ramp once in a while. Didn’t want to go with Michelin’s again and was considering the Yokohama geo but saw several owner say they fell apart at 10 k some even less. when I ran across your video. Now I’m thinking Continentals. What are your thoughts. Thanks

How do we figure out best size and rating for hauling, multi surface capable, good rain? I have Generals E rated now 2dr 2wd f350 6.7L. Thank you for what you do.
