Haven't home-brewed for quite some time (for so many reasons!) You have a great brewery here... ) I subscribed immediately, and I am now homebrewing vicariously through you until I can get back into it! Keep brewing! Thanks.

Very nice setup, I'm good with the unitank and glycol chiller, I am currently working on my brewhouse, currently using a Brewzilla 65L and just bought an Stout Tanks and Kettles dedicated mash tum with bottom drain actually, it will be a 2 vessel system pretty much similar to the Breweasy, I don't have the patience for the fly sparge and for now I don't want to clean another vessel LOL, later on I will change the Brewzilla for another Stout Tanks brew kettle, with a Blichmann BrewCommander.

I’ve been looking to replace my InkBird with the brew commander at some point. I agree, less equipment is ideal when it comes time to cleaning! I love banging out a BIAB batch every now & then. So fast & easy to clean.

Good video of a good home system, but you spent half of the video defending your term of "best". I'd spend more time showing how the whirlpool setup works, how your mash temp controller works, how you transfer with the pumps, etc, and less time arguing your best versus someone else's best. Some cost numbers would be nice too. Good video thought.

It does seem like a lot at first. A simple BIAB setup with an immersion chiller and a plastic bucket fermenter is the way to go at first, IMO

A counterflow chiller does not use more water. Given the same temperate water, it uses way less water. Counterflow is way more efficient.

1/2Bbl, right? Very similar to mine except that mine is on a single stand. Same mash tun, boil kettle, rims, and unitank. My HLT is a 30 gallon blichman kettle and I have an Icemaster glycol chiller. I also have a Blichman plate chiller and it’s far and away the most water efficient chiller I’ve used. I prefer to pitch the yeast immediately to reduce any chance of infection. Love the RO water filter!

  • @HopKillerBrewery

Yep, 1/2BBL unitank! I’m not a fan of plate chillers so I rock the CFC. So far so good with the Blichmann glycol chiller also. RO is king!

Excellent video. I have the same type of hybrid setup except I use propane. Love this setup. I batch sparge and recirc the sparge. I found that I take no real hit to my efficiency and get 75-85% depending on my grain bill type and size. One request. Could you go over the setup or perhaps the requirements of the uni-tank? I’m thinking about upping my fermenter game.

Hey bro I've a question and you may be able to answer it for me. Do you store your RO water in a container before it goes into the mash tun maybe the day before your brewday? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out a way to save some time and maybe store RO water in order to use it on the brew day, as the filter takes a lot of time to fill the required amount of water I need for mashing.

  • @HopKillerBrewery

    @HopKillerBrewery

I’ll let you in on a dirty secret. Even though you aren’t “suppose to” store RO water in stainless because it would strip the properties of the stainless, I still do 9/10 times. I collect a full HLT worth which for me is 15 gallons and I’ll store it in the keggle over night. If you’re worried about storing it in stainless, get yourself 3-4 buckets from Walmart with lids and store it in those before brew day.

@@HopKillerBrewery There's those plastic water containers usually used to store large quantities but I found a small one for about 15 gallons do you think it would do they're fully sealed anyways. Would the water be ok if I keep it in there for a week any experience storing the water for this long?

  • @HopKillerBrewery

@@hoppyjoker if you’re storing it in a food grade plastic container, absolutely. If your storing it in Stainless, I’m not sure

Wrong!!! 😉. JK that’s a bad ass system. I use two 10 gallon coolers at mash tun and HLT. They go on an articulating ladder set up as a step ladder with the Werner steps. When I’m done brewing everything stows out of the way. Only tweak to the mash tun is the Blichmann auto sparge.

  • @HopKillerBrewery

To have more room when not brewing would be great! Seems like a solid system. Haven’t used the auto sparge yet

  • @HopKillerBrewery

For all the major pieces of the setup, around $3k’ish. Add up all the fittings, kegging equipment, other fermenters, scales, etc. I’d say around $5’ish. I can always do a video breaking it down in detail if you and others would like to know exact numbers.
