Just bought these last week, been on a few hikes already, they are perfect. From the moment i put them on in the store I knew these shoes were going to do really well, and I have not been disappointed.

Great review! So interesting to watch a hiker reviewing the Speedgoats as opposed to a runner. So many different types of terrain too. I’ve had the 5s since launch day and they’re far and away the best hiking shoes I’ve owned to date. How much they help foot fatigue is amazing and the grip is off the charts. Hoka even refrained from making the women’s launch colour not pink or purple 😂

Bought one of these recently for trail running! I've been loving this shoe so far and have found it very comfortable. I am planning on using the Speedgoat 5 for hiking and backpacking this summer in the Rockies along with the trail running.

Just bought a pair of Hokas because of your awesome experience with them on the GDT. They arrived today and already got a hike on them. They are very comfortable on flatter ground but when rock scrambling they are a bit sloppy. Really appreciate the gear reviews Justin!

Thanks for the review. I really like the 4’s. I have wide feet and the wide version is one of the few shoes wide enough for me. I don’t like sand in my shoes so not sure about the 5 design or if I’ll like the more stretchy footbox. Lateral stability on rocky terrain is important to me and I thought the 4 was just right. I guess I’ll have to give ‘em try as the 4 are about done.

Thanks for the great review and overview. I see you're walking on very different terrain, from snow to desert. I'll be walking a trail in Kenya in January where the temperatures will be quite different thruout the day, how do you look at the capabilities of this shoe for those circumstances? Not too cold (considering the breathability?) I also consider the Kaha but that seems totally overbuilt to walk/hike this trail in and the speedgoat looks great!

Hey! It's a wild Steven! Just watching this before putting in my birthday order! Any further downsides/upsides of the 5's... or should I find a 4 still kicking around on some store's shelf? Keep it up my dude! Jesse

That color combo though... 😉 at least you coordinated the hat!! I've been using Solomon Speedcross shoes for years for trail, which I still like quite a bit, but I have been eying up the Speedgoats for summer with a lower collar for extra breathability and to check out how their trademark cushion fairs on the trails. Awesome quick review!

Thanks for the review on the new Speedgoats! I wanted to ask you - have you tried the Altra Olympus 4? I ask because you have mentioned on other videos that you train by using barefoot/minimalist shoes. I do as well -which is why I backpack in the Olympus 4. It also has max cushioning along with a Vibram Megagrip outsole like the Speedgoat - but they're zero drop and also have the wide toe box. :). I know you love your Speedgoats, but wanted to throw that out there. Happy hiking! Love your channel, it's my favorite of the backpacking youtube channels

I bought a pair of sSpeedgoats and a pair of Olympus 4’s to compare head to head. I found the Olympus 4’s became my go to shoes because the big toe box and wide heels gave me a more stable platform. Wish they had a little more durability in the midsole. Compression of the midsole has led to a new pair. But they work so well I’m sticking with the Olympus 4.

Any thoughts about the Speed Goat 5 Mid GTX? I took the regular Speed Goat 5' out for a 5-mile hike on the AT in GA (Blood Mtn) and experienced a noticeable lack of support, especially coming down. Wondering if the Mid GTX would provide better support. Thanks

Just FYI my fit experience was a bit different. I almost always wear an 11.5 for years. The only possible exception was the Hoka EVO Jaws that is a little snug in the toe. The SG5 fit required me to go up to a size 12 which is very unusual for me. With Injinji lightweight NuWool ankle toe socks the toe felt a little snug with the 12 initially and it settling in nicely and very quickly. It might be due to the extra volume of the toe socks. They are very comfortable and I plan on wearing them on the JMT in August, unless the forthcoming Tecton X is a game changer.

Justin. May have missed it but, do you normally use an aftermarket insole in your shoes? If so, what do you use? I’ve bought a couple an find them very shoe dependent as some elevate the heel too much and causes slipping. Love the vids. Thanks!
