Try out the Bose ultra open earbuds

I have some Soundpeats ones which are a similar technology, small speaker instead of bone conduction. Great sound quality and all important bass too.

Love this vid/review. I have an earlier model of the Shokz which need updated and I saw the OEW and soundbeats as an alternative. Would also be interested in the openfit. as their tech is similar to the OEW

I tried the OpenFit but I think they are good for sports as it’s touchscreen controls and no band. They fell off when adjusted my hood or my hat

We use the open shocks , I wish the band that goes around the back was a bit more flexible so that if your wearing a hat or have a hood up they don’t squish the headphones to your head. Loved the don’t mind me whilst I just rip the phones of my wife’s head :-)

Aaargh I just got the shokz!

Have you tried the bone conducting headphones with earplugs in when you go to bed? I could never get to sleep in hospital due to the noise. Complete game changer. Best nights sleep Ive ever had in a ward!

If I end up in hospital ill try it, but otherwise I hate wearing headphones in bed

Have you tested streaming music to them from your Garmin? I leave my phone at home when I’m out for a run.

Agree. As a mountain biker, I have a bell and ring it lots to warn people I'm coming so they don't step out in-front of me. You have to ring well in advance though, because a fair few people do take a step to the side because they think they're getting out of your way when they're actually stepping into your path! But anyway, yes, people with headphones are pretty annoying. If they're obviously not aware, I have to slow right down, and even then as I pass them carefully, you get the occasional person that jumps and scowls at me. Something that allows them to still hear would be good!

If I’m running on trails I think might have bikes on them I usually run up them instead of down, that way I can see the bikes coming as well as hear them. Although I’d avoid them entirely at the weekend

Shokz do the Openfit open ear earphones but they do not have the band and are not waterproof. I get the impression from your review Stephen that the OWS Sports have the better sound quality. I am on my second pair of Aftershokz and once they start to give me problems, I will centrally consider the OWS Sports.

I tested the Shokz Openfit but they aren’t suitable for sports IMO due to the lack of physical buttons and no headband. I thought they were waterproof though, if not that explains why mine stopped working 🙈

@StephenJReid I think they are just sweat proof, no dunking in the river, lol. They do need the neck band for running.

how does the ows compare to a budget over ear headphones? that'll be interesting to watch, I'm thinking of using the ows pro for work and replace my current headphones bc these seem more comfortable.

By over ear do you mean the full cups? Hmm depends on the environment. The less background noise, the better they sound. I don’t have a pair of overear I could compare to but it’s decent audio in my opinion

@@StephenJReid yes full cups. background noise mostly comes from the PC fan, air con, or someone talking in the other room.

They look great Stephen. I have a pair of in-ear but don't find them comfy. These look like just the ticket. I'm sold. Did you mention a price at all?

They haven’t opened sales yet so not sure of the price but I would guess they will be similar to Shokz.

How is the sound quality in wind? Am looking for a new pair. With my current headphones I hear a terrible whistle/noise when the wind blows past my earpieces making them useless in wind.

Ran from Portrush to Portstewart wearing them last week in 20-25mph winds and was very happy with them. Obviously you can hear the wind, but I could hear my music and Can’t say I noticed any weird extra sounds

Did you ever try them with sunglasses ? BTW.Very nice video!!!

I’ve tried them with normal glasses a couple of times, just sat on top. A little jiggle. I’d imagine most sunglasses would fit better as they tend to grip the head more

Look good, have 2 questions: 1. How do try cope in windy conditions like cycling? 2. Did you try them with your glasses on? Look like they might be dislodged by either regular glasses or sunglasses?

I’ve tested in 20-25mph winds and was still able to hear music fine. Obviously the wind noise is there too. With glasses I can put them on top of the headphones and they are fine. I don’t run with glasses on though as they just steam up

I tried the sony linkbuds to solve this problem but they just wouldn't stay in my ears for more than 10 seconds.

I didn’t like the look of them, still had to squeeze into your ears which is never good for long term comfort.
